What were they thinking of???

Bloody madness. What a waste of a young life.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 27/12/2007 20:06

It's terrible

TheIceQueen · 27/12/2007 20:07

I know sounds mad doesn't it....but the bbc article indicates the driver "was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink or drugs" - so perhaps not all due to some unsound judgment from the parents on this occasion.

paulaplumpbottom · 27/12/2007 20:07

I will never understand what goes on in some parent's minds

WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 20:08

She should not have been on the road, under any circumstances!

OP posts:
Pennies · 27/12/2007 20:08

Stupid bloody waste of a young life.

Wisteria · 27/12/2007 20:09

awful, but there's no point in judging now is there? They'll live with this decision for the rest of their lives.

MerryPIFFLEmas · 27/12/2007 20:09

on a public road tis not allowed to ride those things and kids at dark is madness.
Reckon parents will get into trouble at some point, but obviously not yet as they are in no fit state.

The woman who hit her will be judged

OP posts:
MUMOFDJandP · 27/12/2007 20:10

so dreadfully tragic

TheIceQueen · 27/12/2007 20:10

Wendy - of course she doesn't but

a) as Wisteria says - there's no point in judging now

and

b) if the report of the woman driver being under the influence of drink/drugs is correct then one could suppose that this tragedy may not have occured.

WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 20:11

If the child hadn't been there it definitely wouldn't have occurred.

Sorry, but I am judging the parents

OP posts:
Ledodgy · 27/12/2007 20:11

I hate quad bikes, even in fields they are really dangerous for adults nevermind children. IMO it should be illegal for children to ride them at all.

TheIceQueen · 27/12/2007 20:14

and Wendy - how is judging the parents going to help? Do you not think they're already beating themselves up about their decisions already without people standing on their soapboxes declaring what terrible parents they must be........as if the judgers have never done anything foolish ever??

There are degrees of foolishness though, IQ.

of course at this point I will put my hand up so you can judge someone who isn't grieving for the loss of a child.

Last year in Zimbabwe I rode one Quad bike, DH rode another with DS1 (1 month before his 6th birthday), and our guide rode another with DS2 (then 2 1/2yrs old) on a 45 minute "Quad Safari"....it was the first time any of us (apart from the guide) had been on Quad bikes......and our children were very young....

WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 20:18

I'm assuming that she must have veered slightly onto the wrong side of the road - and yes, that could have happened with eg a bike, but you wouldn't (I don't think) allow a child to ride a bike along an unlit road after dark behind a car?

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 20:19

There were adults on with them then? They weren't on them alone?

And you were off-road? And it was daylight?

It's not even slightly comparable!

OP posts:
CarGirl · 27/12/2007 20:21

they were on them alone, all the adults were in the car that they were following.
