What were they thinking of???

QOQ (Ice Queen)

Her quad bike experience in Africa, while arguably dodgy as the younger child was way below the legal age, is not remotely like what caused this accident.

And yes, of course people get killed riding bikes. But generally they are riding them legally

no wendy YOU are missing the point, it's all the same isn't it.

"Ooooh look at this terrible incident where a child has been killed because of a parents foolish decision (we'll just forget about the fact that it could have been just about the only foolish decision the parents have ever made with regards to the children...) quick lets start and thread JUDGING them, as it wouldn't do to say how terrible it is and then leave it would it"

Reminds a little of the judging that went on with regards to those 2 little boys who were killed on the motorway

allIWannaBeForChristmas · 27/12/2007 20:54

prosicuting the parents would send the message ot others that this is wrong and hopefully would prevent others from doing the same.

none of us are perfect parents, but there's a vast difference between allowing our children to eat the occasional sausage roll which we know aren't that good for their health and allowing them to drive on the road illegally after dark where there is probably quite a strong possibility they could be killed.

would it have been ok if they'd allowed her to drive a car?

edam · 27/12/2007 20:56

How terrible. And how needless. What on earth were the parents thinking?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 27/12/2007 20:57

The police say it is illegal for anyone under 16 to ride a quad bike.

too.

TheIceQueen · 27/12/2007 20:58

I suppose I'm also an idiot for spending the entire 3 weeks traveling round the country without car seats for the DSs when we arrived and discovered that the 2 car seats which should have been available from the car hire company had failed to appear........

perhaps MN should be renamed "Judgenet".......

WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 20:58

Oh sorry diff, it's these darned Christmas names - IQ is normally QueenofQuotes.

You are right to resist the mini trail bike - stick to your guns!

We went to a summer fair at a big school locally and they had set up a small oval straw-bale track for children to ride round on a small quad bike - they had to wear a helmet and knee and elbow pads first and if they went too fast they were stopped - even so when DS2 had a go (he was about 11) I was on pins watching.

And then the big boys jumped on (15-16) and they were tearing around, standing up, on 2 wheels. None of them tipped it but it was touch and go a few times. Even though they have 4 wheels they need to be treated with respect.

What is all the same, QOQ?

What would be the point of that?

That was a truly tragic accident in the literal sense that it could not have been foreseen and avoided.

Well, pretty much all conversation starts between people who don't know each other that well with; 'Did you hear that story in the news about....', it seems to with me anyway. It's a way of passing the time chatting.

Of course people can judge, this is a parenting chatroom which would be rather dull if everyone said 'yes I did, terrible', and didn't give their opinions.

I would be like watching my Husband sleep, for an hour, very cosy but terribly boring and a waste of my time too.

I think the parents, should be investigated big time for this particular thing. However, I don't think you were made to let your children on a quad bike in the desert in the sunlight where other quadders could see them.

Wifi · 27/12/2007 21:04

It would be like' - sorry

WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 21:07

at the Polish family - had they not lived here long? Is it allowed in Poland?

There will probably be people who will witter on, even after this, about nanny state not letting people make their own choices

Children need to be protected from their parents sometimes, even apparently normal intelligent non-abusing ones

What happened to the dad, do you know?

"What is all the same," - the judging that seems to occur more and more frequently these days on here.

Wendy - many on here would beg to differ that was it was terrible accident when those to little boys were killed......I mean - why were they allowed out of the house to play???? (was just one of the many judgmental comments posted).

It just seems to me recently that there are more "judging" threads on MN these days (and the more tragic the topic the more judgmental people get) than there are general chit chat, support and fun.....thank god there are still some of those around.

Oh that - yes, shouldn't have risen to the bait, should I?

What's your feeling, as a mag?

OP posts:
bubblerock · 27/12/2007 21:12

It's topical, in the news section and a debate - not stupid imo

It is very sad, poor little girl

bubblerock · 27/12/2007 21:13
