Regardless of if the driver was off their heads what on earth makes a parent put their 7yr old on a quad on a main road? They had a 49acre farm which had fields they could have drove across in the daytime!
Tragedy for the poor girl.

inthegutter · 27/12/2007 21:16

Agree littlelapin. The bare facts of the matter appear to be that a 7 year old child was allowed by her parents to illegally ride a quad bike on a public highway after dark. Utter madness.

TheIceQueen · 27/12/2007 21:17

but people are talking about it as if they are the ultimate perfect parent who would never make a rash choice about something which could affect their child's life!

Because (apparently) most of the parents on MN can put their hands up and say they never have, and more importantly never will make a mistake of huge proportions - because they're just too damn perfect to do that.

The parents were wong, end of.
Why can't people say so without being told they have a 'holier than thou' attitude?
As has been said, there are probably not many parents that would allow their children to do what those parents allowed.
What if someone else had been killed? An innocent family trying to dodge the quad bike?

It is very sad they child is dead and her poor brother was there to witness etc, but something should be done about the parents.
They were supposed to be looking after her and instead they are allowing her to illegally (and this is the very reason kids should not be allowed to ride them) ride a powerful machine (powerful in the hands of a child) on a road, in the dark.

Now flame me, I don't give a toss. I am siuck of not saying what I want on here!

TheIceQueen · 27/12/2007 21:19

and of course you never just want to cause an argument do you??? Jumping in with your "oh so clever", deliberately badly typed comments

'but people are talking about it as if they are the ultimate perfect parent who would never make a rash choice about something which could affect their child's life!'

Bollocks! I don't think anyone on here is claiming to be the perfect parent. I'm certainly not perfect, nor is anyone I know. But neither would I allow a 7 year old kid to ride a quad bike on a public highway.

WendyWeber · 27/12/2007 21:21

How do you get from there to here, QOQ?

Because (apparently) most of the parents on MN can put their hands up and say they never have, and more importantly never will make a mistake of huge proportions - because they're just too damn perfect to do that.

Ditto

(damn! was meant to be ignoring attempts to stir!)

Am not agreeing with IceQueen but OBVIOUSLY they were in the wrong - goes without saying - unbelievably stupid and careless approach to their children's safety. What other conclusion could you sensibly come to?
