So will it be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

Personally, I would love to see Barack Obama do it but race issues being what they are in the USA, I can't see it happening.

Hillary Clinton has Bill on her side and he is her main asset, especially as African-Americans love him. I do like Hillary too (especially after reading a biography about her) but I don't understand why she is so loathed by so many in the USA?

DH said that the WASP males, especially those in the South, must be wondering what on earth is happening.

So far so good, I'm 9 weeks and yes dd knows. I get my next scan on the 19th.

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 11:27

Go ahead Eleusis steer us back on topic

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:31

Fantastic. I guess 12 weeks is a turning point though, right? I think that's when they say you are most likely out of the danger zone.

Fingers crossed for baby plump.

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 11:32

Yes I hope it goes well. I have already made it past when I lost the others and there was a heartbeat at 7 weeks.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:37

Yipee!!! Another Republican on his/her way?

Are you going to find out the sex? And more importantly, are you going to tell ME?!?!

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 11:39

Yes of course I am and I've course I'll tell. I haven't lived here so long that I've become secretive. You will all know as soon I do. DD is sure its a girl.

We are thinking of Reagan if its a girl!

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:40

LOL!!! Really? Or was that just in the spirit of great Republicans?

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 11:42

Well Dh wants to name it Margaret, of course, but its a bit of an old name for a little irl. I like Reagan. DD was almost Reagan.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:44

Oh, funny. With my DD, I wanted Margaret, DH said yuck, so it's her middle name.

However, my choice of Magaret has nothing to do with politics.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:45

And what if it's a boy? (Little girls are often wrong you know)

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 11:47

Hillary is down in the polls in Iowa you should be pleased about that. She'll have to take New Hampshire if she loses Iowa or she'll be out

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 12:04

I know. There is hope. my fingers are crossed.

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 12:09

Having said that New Hampshire likes the establishment and I think NH is hers

spokette · 05/12/2007 15:10

I always thought that Republicans were misguided, paranoid and slightly deranged. Reading this thread confirms my suspicions.

I take what Republicans say with a pinch of salt anyway. They ran a smear campaign alleging that Obama was a Muslim and he is not. They use racism, sexism, Islamophobia and any other unsavoury techniques to enhance their mudslinging.

As for Bush doing great things for the country - yeah right - Dick Cheney and Halliburton really did well out of the oil contracts in Iraq..

Dubya and co. have severely damaged America's standing in the world. Bill Clinton, for all his faults, was a respected statesman. Just ask the Muslim people of Kosovo and Bosnia who owe him and Tony Blair a huge debt for coming to their rescue.

So Bill had affairs - that is between him and his wife and like Hillary said, why should she appear as some downtrodden woman bleating stand by your man?

If people had to choose between Bill Clinton and Dubya for president, I bet most would choose Clinton. I would

OP posts:
dizietsma · 05/12/2007 16:51

Ugh. I can't stand either candidate. My dream ticket would be Kucinich/Gravel, I'm an incurable idealist.

Guliani? Dude, I HOPE Guliani is selected, he'd be a breeze to defeat.

To the Republicans on this thread I ask you- what possible reasons can you have for voting Republican again? What have they done right in the last 7 years? ANYTHING? They had all three branches of government for a term with the most weedy Democratic opposition and what did they actually DO with it? I tell you, they siphoned off outrageous amounts of public money into the pocket of their friends. It's just sickening.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 17:26

Here we go round the merry go round merry go round... oh look it's Halliburton again. And can't mention that company with out noting it's former association with good old Dick Cheney. You don't know what you are talking about. Involvment in Iraq has done very little good and a lot of harm to Halliburton. Dick Cheney is the worst not best thing that ever happened to Halliburton. Propoganda is what you are spreading.

Anyway, can we discuss Hillary and Obama? PLEASE. Put your hatred for the Republican party aside and tackle the issue at hand.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 17:33

Discuss Republicans here

as an Italian whose country domestic policy has often been "directed" (or worse, Ustica anyone?) by the USA and as a citizen of the world, I'd rather have the democrats winning the elections. would personally prefer Obama.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 17:46

Yay!!! OBAMA!!!

legalalien · 05/12/2007 17:48

as a kiwi who knows shockingly little about US politics I don't want Hillary in the white house, just because my gut feeling is that I don't like her.

Anyway, will go away and try and educate myself a bit, for anyone else who wants to do the same:

Gloria (can't resist using this shorthand name since you seem the least likely person to be called Gloria) - is there a nice nutshell summary of the differences somewhere so I can form a view?

(mutters to self about weirdness / amount of money spent on US political campaigning - SUCH a different kettle of fish from what happens in a country of 3 million people)

expatinengland · 05/12/2007 17:50

Totally agree with spokette and with MerryKerry. Most Republicans are 'sheeple'...those people not intelligent enough to sort out the facts and review and study BOTH sides of an argument. They like the 'head in the sand' approach. In the US, they are the idiots who ONLY watch Fox news. (BTW, I watch Fox AND CNN and read both conservative and liberal media, and many Democrats do this but Repubicans NEVER EVER do this because they like their propaganda.) As I said, they aren't smart enough to think for themselves...they only operate in the black/white arena like George Bush does.

I voted for Reagan once, but have never voted Republican again because I'm not a religious freak, don't hate poor people, don't hate gay people, don't hate....I condider myself a moderate and often vote both Republican and Democrat in local and state elections. When (if) the US is ever presented with a moderate, socially liberal and fiscal conservative candidate, I will vote for that candidate, but that is not what the Republican party is about anymore. The religious freaks want a pro-life candidate and they will have it no other way. Also, most Republicans hate gays..so don't tell me you're for gay rights and a Republican ...well unless you're a Log Cabin Republican...hey...look up what that means yourself too. Might be nice to learn something new, huh?

BTW, I'm a religious person, but tolerant of others and I am pro-choice. My favorite slogan is, "Against Abortion. Don't Have One." I think it's awful that the UK allows abortions up to 24 weeks for whatever reason, and I think this should be changed. In the US, it's becoming more and more possible for preemies at 21 weeks to survive.

PaulaPlump...Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope everything goes well for your pregnancy, but if it doesn't, I respect your right to die if your pregancy isn't okay. That's fine and your choice...that's why I'm pro-choice, BUT HOW DARE YOU WANT TO TAKE AWAY MY RIGHT TO A D&C or an Intact dilation and extraction should it ever be medically necessary for me to have to have this. HOW DARE YOU ATTEMPT TO THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE CONTROL OVER ANOTHER WOMAN'S UTERUS! Oh, you and Gloriain Elusis don't know what I'm talking about.....well if you support Mitt Romney and Huckabee you do think you are supposed to die before you have these procedures. Again, that's fine if you all want to do this, but I think it's wrong for narrow-mimded individuals who are too ignorant to get the facts before making blanket statements.
Also, Democrats DO NOT SUPPORT 9 MONTH ABORTIONS. There is NO SUCH THING in the US. There are also no such thing as 'partial-birth abortions'..that is a political term created by the Republicans to brainwash 'sheeple' like PaulaPlump, Gloriain Eleusis and others like them into beliving crap. Why don't you look up at Wikipedia or at acog.org...the American College of Obs and Gyno site...and educate yourselves on this procedure before you listen to the propaganda.

I bet you all don't know it is extremely rare and that it's often done to preserve the woman's womb in severe consequences. Again, if you all are ever in this awful situation, you can choose to die or never be able to have children again, but that is YOUR choice and you freaks should not be able to make that decision for others.

It's great that a woman in NY or CA might be able to have more children or not suffer so much....or worse, but a woman living in another state would not be allowed to have any more children unless another lesser procedure had to be performed on her..and you Republicans think govt. should be involved in making medical decisions, but I believe doctors and the medical establishment should make medical decisions...NOT politicans.

I repect your positions, but I sure as heck hope you have educated yourselves properly and aren't just being 'sheeple'...

HairyIrene. Where did you live in the US, and where did they ask for your insurance card before you went to the hospital? I bet you just made this crap up because you too are a 'sheeple' and just belived some crap you read somewhere. You do NOT have to have medical insurance in the US if you are having a medical emergency and need immediate care. Yes, it's true that you need insurance for routine care and if something really bad happened, you might not be able to have coverage unless you self-paid.

I have lived in the the US and the UK, and the UK system is AWFUL. I have no idea who I will vote for, but if the Democrats keep promising socialized medicine, I will NOT vote for them. Might vote for Rudy, but will not vote for a pro-lifer. BTW, Mitt Romney was for abortion as govt. of Mass.before he is now againt it while running for president. At least the Arkansas gov. has been consistant that he's against abortion even to save the life of the mother.

Also, Mitt Romney used to go on vaction by putting his dog (in a dog crate at least) on the top of his car and driving hundreds of miles to his destination.

Also, the comment that Democrats can ONLY vote in Democratic primaries and Repubs in the Repub ones is NOT TRUE. It depends on what state you live in and what that state's voting laws are.

Oh, if anybody thinks only Hillary and Bill are crooked, but George Bush is not...well uust pray for them and hope they get good mental care soon...they need it because they are delusional....all politicans are crooked to a certain extent...Edwards is a great man, but again that socialized medicine is a big turn-off...

As good old 'Dubya' aka..George Bush. said 'Bring it on." Let's hear it...sheeple people. Also, he went to college on the legacy program...that means his Dad was intelligent but he got into college because of his dad and grandfather...Oh BTW, his house in TX is an environmentially-friendly home...so all you republicans that hate the environment and think people who recycle are kooks...he's pulling the wool over you.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 18:06

Erm... Expat. You've put a lot of words in my mouth that I would never think let alone say. And nomally I'd take pleasure in biting your head off for it...

But in view of current circumstance, what I really want to know is...

Are you ok?
