So will it be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

Personally, I would love to see Barack Obama do it but race issues being what they are in the USA, I can't see it happening.

Hillary Clinton has Bill on her side and he is her main asset, especially as African-Americans love him. I do like Hillary too (especially after reading a biography about her) but I don't understand why she is so loathed by so many in the USA?

DH said that the WASP males, especially those in the South, must be wondering what on earth is happening.

Claim to fame? Yes, I see your priorities

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 18:00

Sorry Whitewater not Watergate

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 18:00

oh I'm winding you up you old right wingers!

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 18:02

It's okay paula. Those waters are very mucky.

MT, your tone is not rather patronising. We have put up facts and opinions and reasoned arguments. How about you try the same?

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 18:02

Who are you calling old?

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 18:03

Oh, and Hillary is a bitch.

francagoestohollywood · 04/12/2007 18:07

A bitch? Is that a valid political argument?

I think Kerry's right. You do sound very naive.

She's frigid, she lies, she's corrupt.

Frigid? Wtf?

You don't want to vote for her because you're a Republican. Say that. And then we can all line up and say, so the Republicans don't lie and aren't corrupt then?

I have no idea as to whether they are frigid or not. I rather hope they are actually.

But I'm English so it's all moot to me. Wouldn't vote Hillary or Obama with a gun to my head though, even if I could, lol.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 18:36

Are there corrupt Republicans? Of course there are. I don't think all democrats are corrupt. I think you have to vote for the person who most reflects your values and who you think has the most Integrity. I think Mike Gravel is way to libral. I agree with him on gay rights but nothing else, but I do think the man has integrity and I respect him even though I disagree with him. The Clintons have no integrity whatsoever. Its not a them vs us situation.

MerryKerryXmas maybe you should switch on the news or maybe read the papers from the past couple of weeks. The British government is hardly saintly

ahundredtimes · 04/12/2007 18:59

I don't know how you judge these 'values' though that you are so keen on.

Nor do I understand how accurately you judge them in other people, is it based on their policies or their personalities?

I think the US electoral style is different than the UK though isn't it? Perhaps that's why I'm asking the questions.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 19:03

When I say values, I mean the things that are important to you as a person.
For instance I don't believe in Big Government, I support gay rights, I don't think Universal Healthcare would be good for the States, I'm pro-life, so on and so on. Most politicians are very clear on most of these issues and you align yourself with the one who most reflects your views.

Of course personality plays a part. You just get good or bad vibes from people don't you. Of course that affects how people vote.

ahundredtimes · 04/12/2007 19:11

Yes, I see what you mean but the reason I ask is because your attacks on Hilary were all personal from what I can see, rather than a rejection of her political 'values'. They were a bit rabid too.

Do just the members of the democratic party vote to nominate?

Who will you vote for do you think out of the Republicans?

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 19:30

I don't think mty "attacks" on her has been terribly personal. I suppose I did say that I think she is a liar and she has proven herself to be so I feel justified in that being a reason not to vote for her.

Only democrats get to nominate the person who will represent them in the November elections. Each State has a Primary, where the members from the political parties get to vote for their guy. The final decision is made during the conventions during the summer.

I am torn bewtween Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee at the moment. Rudy and I don't think that Thompson wants the job enough. Unfortunatly for me choosing either of them means that I will be voting for people who are against gay rights, which I hate but I agree with them on most other things.

SueBaroastingOnAnOpenFire · 04/12/2007 19:45

I've been a bit disappointed with Thompson. I thought he'd be ace, but he's a been a bit flat from what I've seen.

Kerry, I feel you're holding back.

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 20:11

Kerry, the only true statement I can find in you post is the fact that you are American.

But I'm not going to go through the various points because I'm kind of hoping that we can talk about Hillary vs. Obama on this thread.

Ahundredtimes, if this was about Republican vs. Democrat arguments I wouldn't be talking about Obama. I'm going to vote for Obama because Hillary is a despicable character. Obama's politics are just as disagreeaable, but at least I can respect his reasons.

those people are sick FUCKS.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 20:19

He didn't steal the election. Sour grapes from sore losers. He hasn't been a great president. I'll give you that. I have been pissed off with him more times than I can tell you. However he has done some excellent things while in the White House, almost all of which go ignored, and he certainly isn't evil. I will say that he has hired some evil people though. So why would I vote for Hillary and follow one disaster with another

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 20:20

Exactly, PurpoleMonkeyTrousers

HangingChad · 04/12/2007 20:23

yeah, look, the election thing was my fault. I feel really bad about it now, but can we move on?
