So will it be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

Personally, I would love to see Barack Obama do it but race issues being what they are in the USA, I can't see it happening.

Hillary Clinton has Bill on her side and he is her main asset, especially as African-Americans love him. I do like Hillary too (especially after reading a biography about her) but I don't understand why she is so loathed by so many in the USA?

DH said that the WASP males, especially those in the South, must be wondering what on earth is happening.

George Bush put an end to that by the way. See not so evil

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 20:25

You know hanging chad people love to forget that you were approved by both the Republicans and the Democrats before the electyion.

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 20:29

Can I just point out that the chad style ballot was developed by the Democrats and has been used in Chicago for many years. The trouble is people from Florida are too stupid to vote, right Paula?

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 20:31

Paula, "You know if you are all such big fans you should at least learn how to spell her name"???

Eleusis spelt it wrong 4 times (but she's not a fan so it doesn't count, right?)

I honestly do not understand how an intelligent person, even a Republican, can be so smugly disparaging of Big Bill when you look at what a total waste of space Dubya has been

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 20:39

I don't think Georgie boy has been a terrific president as I have already stated. I would take him over Bill any day of the week

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 20:40

Why?

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 20:40

(Leaving the sex aside)

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 20:54

Well first off lets not put sex aside because it is but one example of his complete lack of morals. This is a man who was caught red handed and still lied to the American people. This man was impeached. Lying in a Federal Court lands most people in Jail.

I already mentioned his support of Nine month abortions so I'll leave that at that

I hold Bill Clinton as one of the people responsible for 9/11. He did nothing with his intelligence on Bin Laden even after he attacked the World Trade Center the first time. Never even tried.

On the eve of his presidency he involved himself in some very diodgy pardons and theft.

He worked to expand the government

I could go on and on.

As for George Bush.I find fault with the cocky and cavalier attitude that his administraton went to war with Iraq with. I don't mind that they went but I have detested the manner in which it has been done.

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 20:54

Excuse me, this thread is about the Democrats running. George Bush is not one of them. Can we talk about Hillary (whose name I promise to now spell correctly) and Obama?

GrumpYULEhorsewoman · 05/12/2007 09:55

Hang on a second.

It almost got missed in Paula's thread. Let us remind ourselves that Bill Clinton was almost impeached because he lied about having an affair...but Bush has been allowed to get away with such heinous acts of global terrorism and decimation of his own country, not to mention he is probably one of the, no THE dumbest so-called world leaders we have ever had the misfortune to suffer under. And the world does suffer, not only the United States.

And he did steal the election.

  1. His brother was governor of Florida. Coincidence?
  1. How did so many elderly jewish voters end up voting for a neo-nazi candidate in south florida? I suppose it would have looked too obvious to cast their votes directly, so a little tactical effort was called for.

I am just totally incredulous that republicans can feel themselves able to take the moral high ground, all the while using personalities and the abortion issue to make a claim against democrat nominees. Obviously they are the only issues that mean anything when you are the most powerful nation on earth. How can anyone be so insular?

Heathcliffscathy · 05/12/2007 09:56

i'm with you grumpy.

Heathcliffscathy · 05/12/2007 09:57

paula, i'm staggered at your assessment of bush's faults. his manner.

[thunk]

GrumpYULEhorsewoman · 05/12/2007 10:15

Thank you, Soph.

This thread has riled me, especially as it began as a discussion of democrat nominees and descended into the republican appreciation society debate team. Just when I thought there was nothing left to appreciate.

Heathcliffscathy · 05/12/2007 10:16

republican appreciation society

i would say what i think but i can't.

GrumpYULEhorsewoman · 05/12/2007 10:31

You and me both.

Good manners prevent it.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:02

Grumpy,
I don't think good manners is your strong point on this thread.

I vote in the very same election with the very same ballot (in Chicago as it happens) and it reallyisn't all that difficult to take a little stick and use it to punch a little hole in the box next to the candidates name. The ballot wasn't the problem. It was not rigged. And the ballots were recounted I can't even remamber how many times. And every time George Bush had more than Al Gore. Every time!

But, anyway, you are obviously more interested in using any political discussion on American as a platform to err (pun intended) your grievances on the Bush family.

I give up.

WendyWeber · 05/12/2007 11:08

Bush's hands are spotless of course

WendyWeber · 05/12/2007 11:10

Could you find us evidence that that they didn't do either of those things, you lovely Republican ladies?

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:15

here

paulaplumpbottom · 05/12/2007 11:16

There are more to elections than foreign policy. I think Bush's foreign policy has been awful, horrible but his domestic policy has always been fine. I will give it to Bill Clinton that on the whole Clinton's foreign policy wasn't all bad, although he gives himself too much credit and I think bombing the Serbians to get his Monica problem off the news was shameful. You only see half of it. Surely when you vote you take your local problems, education, healthcare, taxes, etc into consideration.

Bush is inarticulate but he is hardly dumb. The man is very well educated. He holds degrees from Harvard and Yale. He is probably better educated than most of you.

So what if Jeb was Govener? It shows how little you know about how the system works. He never had any responsibiltie where that was concerned. The Florida Supreme Court made the call.

GloriaInEleusis · 05/12/2007 11:19

Hey Paula, since we seem determined not to talk about the topic on which the thread was started, I figure all subjects are fair game.

So, how's the pregnancy? How far are you? How are you feeling? Have you told DD about it yet?

policywonk · 05/12/2007 11:24

God, it's like another planet isn't it?
