So will it be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

Personally, I would love to see Barack Obama do it but race issues being what they are in the USA, I can't see it happening.

Hillary Clinton has Bill on her side and he is her main asset, especially as African-Americans love him. I do like Hillary too (especially after reading a biography about her) but I don't understand why she is so loathed by so many in the USA?

DH said that the WASP males, especially those in the South, must be wondering what on earth is happening.

You hate her because she's crooked and you don't know what she stands for?

Hmmm. Why is she crooked?

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:27

Oh my God. You should google it.

But let'stalk about the things she and Bill considered their own personal gifts and stole from the White House. Excuse me, when you leave the white house, you are also supposed to leave the things in it.

Hillary is truly loathed by many. I think if she is elected there will be at least one attempt on her life. So many people really hate her.

AND she is no friend of the middle East. And let's just say I think things are bad enough there now.

Zazette · 04/12/2007 17:31

paulaplumpbottom, can you explain how Obama's position on abortion makes him a socialist? I just don't get that.

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:31

I also don't agree with her political beliefs. Just as I don't agree with Obamas. But at least Obama won't disgrace the White House with his immoral character.

I don't support socialism. I believe government should provide only those things for the people which the people can not provide for themselves. I do not believe in taking things away from the hard working in order to give them to the able but unwilling to work. I don't support socialised medicine.

Hillary is scum.

HairyIrene · 04/12/2007 17:36

the woman arguement does not hold water with me..

would love to see obama get somewhere
american politics would at least look progressive, modern,

but yes, it would certainly be strange day to see him voted president

i think they will go clinton
big time shame
bill was a flop imwto imho...

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:37

One of Bill's more appalling stunts:

On the night before and morning of his departure from office, Bill Clinton made several controversial "midnight" pardons. Aside from pardoning political allies and scandal co-conspirators such as Susan McDougal, Henry Cisneros, and his brother Roger, Bill pardoned fugitive criminal millionaire Marc Rich. Rich was charged in the early eighties with several felony offenses but fled to Switzerland to avoid facing trial. Among Rich's crimes were oil deals with Iran during the hostage crisis and ties to arms smuggling. Amazingly, Clinton completely disregarded pardon protocol in the Rich case and failed to properly inform many authorities in the justice department of Rich's fugitive status. The story becomes more interesting considering that Marc Rich's ex wife Denise, who fought for his pardon, is a close Clinton friend and DNC donor. Denise Rich gave $1 million in contributions to the DNC, $450,000 to Bill Clinton's library fund, and $70,000 to Hillary Clinton's senate campaign according to the Washington Times (2/22/00). The Rich pardon appears to be a political pay off and, though the president may constitutionally pardon anyone, it appears he abused his authority in a quid pro quo pardon in exchange for political donations. Clinton's pardon of Rich has prompted criticism from even the most liberal Clinton defenders and several prominent Democrats. Former President Carter called the pardon "disgraceful" while Senator Tom Harkin and even Rep. Barney Frank criticized it!
But that is by no means all. Hillary Clinton's brother Hugh Rodham was paid over $400,000 dollars for successfully fighting for pardons and commutations for criminals Carlos Vignali and Almon Glenn Braswell, two included in Clinton's last minute pardons and commutations list. Upon the eve of this story breaking, Hillary and Bill denied any knowledge of Hugh's involvement and, under pressure, called on him to return the money. Translation: they got caught.

gloria
for all the faults and faffs and underffunding with the nhs i would truly hate to live in a country, a society, where they check your health insurance before they take you to hospital...

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:44

And another lovely stunt by the Clintons:

Travelgate:
The Clintons fired seven white house travel office employees in favor of hire cousins and friends. The employees were lifelong employees in good standing. After stating no other reason for the firings than the employees were viewed as disloyal to the administration, officials began to question the White House. Soon after the firings were questioned, the White House allegedly used the FBI to investigate the employees then attempted to ruin the worker's reputation by making the fact of an FBI investigation public. Travel employees ended up spending their life savings defending themselves in court against the false charges. Further investigation revealed that former travel office chief Billy Dale's FBI file was among the nine hundred plus requested files of Filegate.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 17:46

Sorry I had meant to say extreme libral and socialist views. The first example of his extreme libral and the second example was of his extreme socialist views.

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:46

Ah, but then you'd get treated when you got to the hospital. None of this NHS fob off crap.

The quality of medical care in the US is so far superior to what is available here, I can't even compare them.

So I am opposed to inferior medical care.

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 17:47

I hope Hilary does win!

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 17:47

I hope Hilary does win!

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:47

Thank God you don't have a vote.

francagoestohollywood · 04/12/2007 17:48

I think that with all the problems the USA has the stance on abortions is actually quite marginal. Let a bit of socialism in I say.........

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 17:50

I can buy that Eleusis. I wouldn't be interested in the corruptness that comesw with the Clintons (thats why I won't be voting for Rudy) Its her lies that get me. She gets caught all the time in outright porkies

The one about being named after Edmund Hillary was a personal favorite of mine but the one about CHelsea and 9/11 was just shocking.

We all know he lies

SueBaroo · 04/12/2007 17:50

HI, as far as I'm aware, if you need emergency medical treatment in the US, you are legally entitled to get it already. No checking-insurance-before-treatment.

I'm actually very, very intrigued to see how the healthcare debate in the US is going to pan out, actually. If they do go with 'socialized medicine' or their own version of the NHS, I'm interested to see how they will attempt to avoid the pitfalls the UK has fallen into.

From what I understand, the US doesn't like to be a high-tax society, and I really do think and effective free-at-the-point-of-use universal healthcare system is a high-tax proposition.

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 17:52

I think all the Hilary bashing is becasue she is a woman, nothing more and is quite dispicable, what did one woman say on a Rep talk show, "How do we beat the bitch?"

She "flip-flops"? Now there's a well informed rhetorical opinon

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:54

She's a nasty piece of work. Look here Obama has been tracking her insults which she has been slinging his way.

Frigid HIllary is back, and I hope it takes her down.

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 17:55

"She was involved in dodgy dealings"

Erm, yes, politics

"she lets her slimeball of a husband cheat on her and doesn't say anything because she wants to be president"

You mean she didn't pick up the phone to you straight away and spill her humiliated guts everywhere for you to gloat over? Aw

Monkeytrousers · 04/12/2007 17:56

Frigid Hilary? Please explain!

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 17:56

It has nothing to do with her being a woman. I would glady vote for a woman if I felt she was a good leader. I for one greatly admire Thatcher and would love to see someone like her run. I wish Elizabeth Dole had run. I like her much better than any of the current Republican canidates.

Having said that I certainly wouldn't vote for someone just because she was a woman.

Oh please. You know me better than that. You think I'm against a woman in the White House?

In fact one thing I really can't stand is the thought of Hillary being the first woman president. No no no...anyone else. Don't give Hillary that claim to fame.

When Hillary was in charge of developing a helth care plan (which quite frankly she shouldn't have been in charge of as first lady), I remember that government workers were the only people to get to choose what doctor they went to. So, one plan for her cronies, and another for the rest of us. Yeah, that's fair!

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2007 17:58

I think you'll find conning elderly people out of their life savings like she did in Watergate not terribly political Monkeytrousers.

GloriaInEleusis · 04/12/2007 17:59

MT, people use to call her frigid. They used to say it was her fault Bill couldn't keep his pants on -- because she was frigid.

(now I of course don't support that resoning, but that was her reputation and she had been working hard to portray herself as likeable. and now it seems she has reverted to her old (true) self)
