Unfortunately I think Bush will win again. I think the latest Bin Laden tape will actually help him and make the difference. What do you guys think?

is everyone having election parties? sounds like a night when everyone should get pis*ed

sounds like Ulwilas giving a great deal of credence to the 'he's only gone there for the oil' argument.

What a mess

colinsmommy · 02/11/2004 18:00

I don't understand the theory that we'll never be without dependence on oil. That assumes that we'll never be without oil. It is estimated that the world has enough oil left for somewhere between 6-300 years. If you take out the more extreme theories, mainstream science predicts running out in another 50-60 years. I'd hate to think that we're handing off a disaster with no solution that our children will have to deal with. WE may never have to deal with the consequences, but it would be nice if we could do something to soften the blow of a world without oil.

Jools Too.

KateandtheGirls · 02/11/2004 18:07

I don't want to have an elecion party with my neighbors! I will have a glass or two of wine while I'm watching though.

JoolsToo · 02/11/2004 18:10

with a bit of luck Kate - you'll be dancing round the street tomorrow (won't hold my breath tho !!!!)

KateandtheGirls · 02/11/2004 18:15

Right Jools!

Papillon · 02/11/2004 18:17

KITSCH -- Tex111 kitsch is originaly from the German word meaning 'trash' although more recently has been used as a word to describe objects of poor taste and usually poor quality.

doobydoo · 02/11/2004 18:17

Kerry is a twit and Bush is bonkers-great choice!
The thing that really put me off Kerry was him saying that his mother's dying words were "integrity, integrity, integrity".I mean gimme us a break!
I was never on Bush o go off him.
Personally I think it would be better if their respective partners ran for office they seem to be the driving force and have abit of spark about them.
I had one of those ,sometimes awful, flashes of clarity last night and just cannot believe that Blair dragged us into all this.I shall be watching with great interest with a pint of vino and some choc!

JoolsToo · 02/11/2004 18:36

latest - ITV news - VERY close - Bush camp worried because they don't know whats going on!

So close - "20,000 lawyers are waiting to pounce"

OMG!!

Mommy2Ro · 02/11/2004 18:36

makes me miss Clinton, really. At least he had a passport (I don't think Bush had a valid one when he was running last time) and I thin kI'd def rather have Hilary over Kerry or Bush.

Mommy2Ro · 02/11/2004 18:37

Close so far... but it's only lunchtime on the East coast.

tex111 · 02/11/2004 18:59

Ah Papillon, I know kitsch. You had a typo in your message so it said 'kitch'. I just assumed it was some trendy new term I hadn't heard of. I'm always the last to learn that stuff.

According to our news programmes in Britain - its close but looking good for Kerry ......

tex111 · 02/11/2004 19:11

JoolsToo you're getting my hopes up! I really think it could be a positive turning point in American history if Kerry wins. I hate to think what it would be like with four more years of Bush.

JoolsToo · 02/11/2004 19:13

they're talking 'dirty tricks' in (I think but don't quote me) Ohio - not as many polling stations as usual resulting in 3 hour long queues - the African Americans waiting were determined to cast their vote!!!

Tinker · 02/11/2004 19:14

I can't bear to read hopeful posts that Kerry has a chance. The disappointment will be so painful if it doesn't happen.

Re: dependence upon oil. There are tax incentives already for supplying biodiesels.

JoolsToo · 02/11/2004 19:16

Oh and another thing that really angered me - (I suppose its the same every time) - the amount of money spent (or wasted) on these elections - Bush circa £70 million - Kerry circa £50 million - its immoral - who wants bloody t-shirts and buttons for gods sake!!! Some of the tv campaigns have been a bit viscious too!

Tortington · 02/11/2004 19:17

bush will win. osama saw to that - told you they were family friends coincidence my arrrrrse

ScummyMummy · 02/11/2004 19:17

ScummyMummy · 02/11/2004 19:17

Tortington · 02/11/2004 19:19

hiya scumster long time no see

ScummyMummy · 02/11/2004 19:26

yep- but brighton beckons soon- hurray.

Heathcliffscathy · 02/11/2004 19:26

i will be incredibly depressed if bush wins...i really really think the results of this election will change history, either way, and for much much worse if bush wins. so please don't get my hopes up re kerry winning...the disappointment will be enormous...god i hope you're right tho!

Mommy2Ro · 02/11/2004 19:31

Ok, signing off to get babe to bed, etc. Everyone, fingers crossed and if the election televison gets too depressing, I am pretty sure 'Little Britain' is on at 9pm.

Goodnight, ladies...

agy · 02/11/2004 19:32

So many people in America and these two are the best they can throw up to be President!
