Tidal surge in E Anglia & Kent - possibly 2-3 metres

That's the worst possibility but still, it's very flat on the E Anglian coast, a small surge would go quite a long way.

Hope everybody there is ready to go if they have to!

Hi, we are still at home at the moment, the high school rest centre is jam packed full. Nothing has happened near our home yet although all the main roads are closed and the water has just started to breach the riverbanks in Yarmouth. Have been up all night with phone calls from neighbours etc. Am now about to jump in the shower to revive me in case the power goes off as the peak time for flooding is in the next couple of hours.

MaureenMLove · 09/11/2007 07:21

Stay safe Dizzy.

Bouncingturtle · 09/11/2007 07:27

I would also get some large bottles and cans to store drinking water in as well, there maybe the possibility of loss or contamination of water supplies. Make sure you have plenty of warm blankets to wrap yourselves in as well.
I understand that Felixstowe port is being shut.
Good luck to all those affected, my prayers are with you.

JARM · 09/11/2007 07:29

i really want to go down to the front to see whats going on out there, but im too much of a wimp lol

all the flood gates will be shut anyway and im in no fit state to climb them! (37+ pg)

Please, all of you further up - stay as safe as possible and keep us updated xx

Well the river has breached its banks here. Moorings all under water and a boat has washed up. The water's a few metres from our patio yet but they're warning it could get worse. No houses affected as its Norfolk and there's quite a high cow to person ratio, meaning we live in a highly wooded area so the trees are swimming a wee bit. Houses are quite cannily built so we should be ok.

Some of the roads are slightly flooded and the schools are all closed. Local news is reporting a problem with 'sightseers'. Or 'twats' to give them their proper title.

Hope everybody else is okay.

Katymac · 09/11/2007 07:48

lucyellensmum · 09/11/2007 09:24

Hope everyone is OK.

You should have stayed up 'ere Fio. Least you'd only have a river to contend with - not the bloody North Sea

SweetFA · 09/11/2007 10:14

Good luck Fio. Am in C/bury if I can help with anything x

Fio just to let you know that high tide was 7am here in Norfolk and the water level is still rising in places. It's about 6 inches higher than it was 3 hours ago in our garden so you might want to keep guard all day. I'm praying it stops soon. Good luck.

FMF, just off out to see if you can use a cow as a buoyancy aid. It's a novel twist on traditional cow tipping I must say.

sagitta · 09/11/2007 11:36

Hope everyone in Norfolk is OK - and good luck to Kent. We live on the Orwell and the water is just a few feet from the car now - (tbh, hope the car gets swept away and we can get a new one on insurance ). Very windy here, and lots of water, but I don't think it's going to be bad for us.
