Blimey, this flooding thing sounds scary

Tidal surge in E Anglia & Kent - possibly 2-3 metres

That's the worst possibility but still, it's very flat on the E Anglian coast, a small surge would go quite a long way.

Hope everybody there is ready to go if they have to!

fingers crossed for everyone affected xx

had house floding this summer and it was awful

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/11/2007 19:33

arse. just realised that despite being an hour inland this will affect me too because they'll close the Felixstowe Docks and stack the lorries on the main trunk road. looks like we're leaving the house very early for work tomorrow.

Katymac · 08/11/2007 19:37

Oh - that's me I think

Bugger - I'm away from the coast will I be OK?

JARM · 08/11/2007 19:39

No mention of Felixstowe on any of the reports? think we will be ok?

Katymac · 08/11/2007 19:42

The enviroment agency website says I will be OK

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/11/2007 19:42

It's only coming south as far as Aldeburgh from what I've heard, and they're not even stressing that much in Lowestoft, so you'll be fine JARM, but I would expect them to close the Port. And Katymac, they're saying that low lying ground, even away from the coast, could be at risk, so depends whether you're in a low patch?

JARM · 08/11/2007 19:45

im right next to the port - and its as busy as hell tonight! I can stand at my back door and see and hear all the cranes and containers!

ProfYaffle · 08/11/2007 19:47

I was concerned for pil who live near the coast in Gorleston, just south of Great Yarmouth. Then dh pointed out they're actually about a mile inland and on a cliff top so highly unlikely to flood!

Hope everyone is oK.

Katymac · 08/11/2007 19:48

No - apparently a 1000 years ago we were an island - so I am on a high bit

But locally there isn't a flood warning at all - they are all a good distance away (sorry I am so relieved I am not at risk - those that are, have my sympathies)

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/11/2007 19:49

it's supposed to be at it's worst at about 7am though, the winds are gonna pick up overnight, how cautious are they? It always seems to be shut when it's just a light breeze here!

JARM · 08/11/2007 19:55

i dont know mate, only lived here since September!

Will post first thing if it will help?!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 08/11/2007 20:06

don't worry, am just gonna have to get my backside out of bed on time

Sending dry thoughts to everybody on the East Coast. I hope the flood defences will do their job tonight.

dizzydance · 08/11/2007 20:23

I am on the Norfolk coast just outside Gt Yarmouth.Am about 200 mtrs from beach and on severe flood warning. All of our schools are closed tomorrow. However it is still calm here, but the winds are picking up. 7 in the morning is high tide. Parts of Lowestoft are being evacuated now which is about 10 miles away. I don't expect much sleep tonight.

WendyWeber · 08/11/2007 20:24

Will they come round and tell you if you need to evacuate then, dd?
