...for apparently falsifying some qualifications.

Personally I'd prefer that they investigate her for pushing an approach to baby care which went out with the ark.

OP posts:

agree ....
more information here

BBBee · 27/10/2007 08:51

I am heartened by the huge uproar there has been over her child care methods.

(we trail blazed it you know - and now it won't be tolerated)

RubyShivers · 27/10/2007 09:11

Silver Rivers should have done a bit more research - it sounds like the Times didn't have to dig too deeply to find this stuff out

kittywitch · 27/10/2007 09:28

But some of the stuff she expounds makes perfect sense, surely you've got to take a bit of everything. I don't agree say with leaving a tiny baby outside crying, but I think it's great having a routine to get a baby sleeping through.
Different methods work for different families, with different needs and different babies.

I hate some of the lentil weavy approach to childcare, but some of it makes sense too, not much though it has to be aid .

harpsicorpsecarrier · 27/10/2007 09:31

which bits make sense kittywitch?

Hallowedam · 27/10/2007 09:33

I saw this in the Guardian and was delighted that her 'qualifications' are being investigated.

Did you see the programme, Kitty? She went way, way, way beyond a 'routine'. And advocated, IMO, downright cruelty.

lailasmum · 27/10/2007 09:39

I can't believe the production company can be so stupid as to not check up on her properly, especially when her methods are so controversial. They are idiots. At least this has come out now and will hopefully discredit her methods and make people think more about the value of childcare gurus who make themselves out be unquestionable in all things.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2007 09:42

Too little too late.

Anyway, I'd've thought that "I've shagged Mick Jagger whilst being his child's nanny " was just the kind of qualification that C4 searched for.

They deem it incumbent to be controversial it seems.

Hallowedam · 27/10/2007 09:44

Thing is, if you were an employee and lied about your qualifications you could be dismissed on the spot for gross misconduct.

castille · 27/10/2007 09:48

Does anyone know how the families Claire Verity "helped" in the series have reacted to all the outrage? I can't get C4 here (France) so haven't been able to watch it, but I was wondering if they have any regrets or if they stand by her methods despite everything.

CadaverousCorpulentCarmenere · 27/10/2007 09:51

I didn't watch any of the series but...You would have to have one hell of an ego to go on a major TV programme with your controversial methods having knowingly falsified your qualifications

Marina · 27/10/2007 09:53

This would have been easy to check, as Ruby says. What's that whirring sound? Channel Four backpedalling furiously
Shame on Silver River and Cunningham Management for not doing these basic checks before making this disgusting programme.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2007 09:54

Oh well of course Carmenere. But that's because Mick Jagger "made love to her" and she has other "schlebritty" endorsements.

Because of course, famous people always have the best money can buy

Bouncingturtleskulls · 27/10/2007 09:56

My thoughts was that the parents following Claire Verity method seemed happy with it. Since it seems to be about minimising the inconvenience & disruption baby can cause to your social & sex life, it made me think why they bothered to have babies in the first place? I can't help but think those parents have got their priorities wrong...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2007 09:58

OH indeed.

Although, Claire Verity got all her best tips from growing up on a farm, didnt she?

MarsLady · 27/10/2007 09:59

Begs the question why they didn't check her qualifications properly to begin with..... oh wait..... it was only newborn babies why waste valuable viewing time!

woodenchair · 27/10/2007 10:01

Hopefully it means this vile woman will disappear.

CadaverousCorpulentCarmenere · 27/10/2007 10:02

Hey Mars, if anyone famous hires you, you too could use it as an opportunity to shag a celeb whilst the wife is out of action

harpsicorpsecarrier · 27/10/2007 10:02

there was a follow up interview with the parents and the CV parents were positive about hte experience and said t had "worked" and the children were now fine and contented.
I will try and find it

ScaryScaryNight · 27/10/2007 10:02

Publicity. Lots of publicity for channel 4. Either way.

Bravo for this

MarsLady · 27/10/2007 10:03

I don't think Clive is going to have any more kids and he has a gorgeous wife.

Of course I think Jamie is still single............... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

WinkyWinkola · 27/10/2007 10:03

Do you think perhaps Silver Rivers and Ch 4 didn't actually care whether CV was qualified or not?

They probably couldn't get hold of someone qualified who would agree to supervise such an approach to babycare. Someone qualified would probably value their hard work and career too much to risk such exposure.

Routine is all very well but it's a bit daft expecting babies under six months to sleep through the night immediately when they need regular feeding and their melatonin production hasn't kicked in to help establish their circadian rhythm.

If they sleep through naturally then great. But to ignore a baby's needs to achieve this sleeping through construct is daft.

Santasmissyontheside · 27/10/2007 10:04

have not read whole of this thread, but i was shocked that there were only 700 and someting complaints made. i expected more

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2007 10:05

Harpsi - do you not think that they are unable to say otherwise?

Because if they felt uneasy at any point (and from the limited footage I have seen they seemed to get very upset on a number of occasions), they certainly didnt halt the programme and say "no, this isnt working for us".

How could they later say "actually, we persevered with this tortuous method, and whaddyaknow, we're no better off for it"?

Hallowedam · 27/10/2007 10:05

I think you could be right. Especially having come across Daisy Goodwin, the producer, IRL.
