Claire Verity being investigated by Channel 4

...for apparently falsifying some qualifications.

Personally I'd prefer that they investigate her for pushing an approach to baby care which went out with the ark.

actually that's not funny, but YKWIM
searching for signs of damage etc etc

OrmIrian · 01/11/2007 13:31

Good. Cowbag..

nappyaddict · 01/11/2007 15:03

argh you know what makes me so mad.

on another parenting forum someone who's first baby who is due in june has said

"watched a programme the other week about routines they had a 1950s idea 1970s and hippy type one the old fasioned one was brill theyhas bubs sleeping from 7-7 and on solids from 3 months how cool is that"

so it seems that people watched that and thought fantastic.

hunkermunker · 01/11/2007 16:14

Jeeeeeeez, NA? Is this a parenting forum I know?

nappyaddict · 01/11/2007 16:17

no hunker. it was on bounty

harpsichordsgoingbangandwoosh · 01/11/2007 16:28

at that site
it is the dark side isn't it?

Mercy · 01/11/2007 16:40

hahaha! (at the Times article that is)

One thing I don't understand is that my mum reckons Truby King's methods were considered outdated during the 1950s - and that Dr. Spock was all the rage.

pinkpip100 · 01/11/2007 16:45

Ok, here goes... my totally unqualified and subjective account based on only an hour or so in their presence... they seemed very quiet and self-contained, but maybe that's just what twins are like?? Not particularly social or smiley, my DS2 was crawling all over them trying to get their biscuits/drink/toys (so badly behaved, I must do something about that )or generaly just to play with them and they didn't pay much attention to him at all. I suppose they were actually very calm and well behaved given their age (11 months) which tends to be the 'smash and grab' phase, at least it was/is for my two ds. Or maybe their (lovely) nanny was just super efficient at keeping them in line!!!

Obviously all of this could have everything or nothing to do with the CV method they were subjected to....

I must tell my mum about the Times article and this thread. She is not exactly a fan of CV adn loves MN (via me). She always sends me cut out articles about MN if she sees one!

WitchTwoOh · 02/11/2007 22:51

why did they have those kids in the first place if it was to leave them to cry and then be looked after by someone else? [judgemental]

edam · 02/11/2007 22:59

Daisy Goodwin, responsible for this programme, is neither childless nor young (I guess she's mid to late 30s). She has written about her own experience of being abandoned by her mother which may have some relevance, I suppose. Even if it does, that's no excuse for inflicting abandonment on someone else's newborn baby. And that's what 'no eye contact, no cuddles, stick 'em in the garden for several hours and ignore them when they cry' is, really.

WitchTwoOh · 02/11/2007 23:01

hear hear. and here here for good measure, as i'm never sure which is the correct one. perhaps i should have gone with bravo. or brava?

LittleBella · 02/11/2007 23:06

Oh Daisy Goodwin's a disgrace.

She wrote that disingenuous crap in the times - "I never knew child-rearing was so controversial".

No, never realised for a moment. Had never heard of mumsnet, or the Gina Ford debacle. Didn't have a clue.

harpsichordsgoingbangandwoosh · 03/11/2007 07:33

I'll tell you what made me mad.
there was a spokesman from Channel 4 on Womans Hour this week to talk about the programme and the presenter said that the Ofcom code required that children were not caused "unnecessary distress or anxiety" - well the guy from Channel 4 replied that they had engaged an "expert" to say that no damage had been done ot the children.
well leaving aside the validity of the expert's opinion, how on earth do we get from "unnecessary distress or anxiety" to "damage"? you don't need an expert to say whether a child is in distress. you just need to be another person.
anyway the interviewer didn't even pull him up on it.
loathesome little man.

AitchTwoOh · 03/11/2007 10:03

Daisy's on r4 at the moment. she said 'bloody', tut. i'm not sure what she was publicising.

tiktok · 03/11/2007 12:24

Total hatchet job on Claire Verity in today's Mail - pretty thorough and please just ignore the Mail-type criticism of ger for being 'blonde and heavily made up', 'cos the rest of it is viciously true.

The whole story is one of hubris....surely, surely, her career as a maternity anything is ruined now (good).

I know 'Doctor' Gillian McKeith has survived onslaughts about her professional quals and has lived to make a few more millions, but I suspect it's gonna be different where babies are concerned. 'Doctor' Gill only makes grown ups cry and talks crap as well as examining it. Claire Verity's behaviour and the accusations about her qualifications are all worse.

meemar · 03/11/2007 12:45

Just read the article.

"The TV production company Silver River was hunting for a nanny to participate in a childcare show that it had devised, and contacted a nanny agency that had Verity on its books."

What I'd like to know is why, if she is so in demand that she had to turn away the likes of Tony Blair and Mel B, did Silver Rivers find her this way? Surely someone of her glittering status would be well known and a first choice for a media company

tiktok · 03/11/2007 12:50

You know, it's just possible that the Tony Blair and Mel B stories are less than 100 per cent correct.

(choosing words carefully)

Grin
NoNameToday · 03/11/2007 13:01

Looking at her website, I am astounded by the reference from the Carmichaels............ " She stayed 24hrs"!

tiktok · 03/11/2007 15:57

Again from her ( very poor and badly spelled) website:

"at no point has she ever endangered or put any baby at risk "

You'd think a maternity nurse would not have to put that on her flippin website....

Next, it will be 'Claire is never uses crack cocaine when on duty' or 'Claire will only shag your husband if he happens to be a rock star'

paulaplumpbottom · 03/11/2007 16:02

Why do people listen to the advice of so called "Professional Nannys" who have no children of their own

edam · 03/11/2007 16:51

I hope the spelling and grammatical errors on the references page are hers, not the parents'. 'Installed' good habits in a baby, indeed! Presumaby by booting up a CD Rom?

But the refs. are actually very sad - full of people basically saying she made sure their five week old baby wasn't a nuisance. Oh dear.

edam · 03/11/2007 16:56

and she claims she can deal with 'problem babies'. Poor mites. Imagine calling a baby a problem because he or she behaves like a baby - needing to feed, waking in the night...
