Multiple fatalities reported. 300-500 people at Friday prayers when a gunman went in with an automatic weapon shooting for 5-20 minutes (varied witness reports). And another mosque also involved with injuries. Poor Christchurch.

b) a bit ineffectual in the aftermath of forty murders.

Anything anybody says is ineffectual in the aftermath of murders. It is still worth saying though.

FenceFuckery · 15/03/2019 09:00

It’s just so horrific, I can’t really get my head around it.

Just yesterday I was talking with a girl in my team about how ‘white’ Christchurch is compared to Auckland. Then this happened.....

Lonelycrab · 15/03/2019 09:00

I just want to cry😞

Elllllle · 15/03/2019 09:00

I've said this on Chat but I am in Oz and watched the live feed from Jacinda Ardern's press conference. She was admirable and vary far from "ineffectual."

50 odd ppl killed at minimum. For a city like Christchurch I cannot even begin to imagine and the reports here are horrific - ie a 5 yr old chased down the street

Graphista · 15/03/2019 09:07

My heartfelt thoughts and care go to all those affected, victims, first responders, medics treating victims...

Can I say I want to thank the Australian and NZ heads of state for calling it and the perpetrators what they are

Terrorism and terrorists

Others could learn from them.

DramaAlpaca · 15/03/2019 09:11

This is awful news. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

SinkGirl · 15/03/2019 09:13

I agree Graphista - their response so far is absolutely correct. What a heartbreaking situation. How can these people not see that they are as bad as what they claim to hate? Nearly 30 years since the last mass shooting in NZ. It’s such a tragedy.

PerkingFaintly · 15/03/2019 09:19

Oh god. Just switched on and seen this.

Thinking of you all in NZ.

OddCat · 15/03/2019 09:28

I have no words to express my feelings for these sick bastards.

Thinking of all the New Zealander's x

ElliotBoy · 15/03/2019 09:37

Can't help but laugh at the likes of Cole sneering at the Prime Minister's response. Why is it that some posters are so willing to demonstrate their ignorance?

The PM has been nothing short of magnificent - eloquent, compassion and utterly focused. I have never heard such a rapid and appropriate response from a figurehead in a time of crisis. (veteren reporter)

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 09:50

Can't help but laugh at the likes of Cole sneering at the Prime Minister's response.

Why on earth did you read what I said as sneering? What's wrong with you?

brizzlemint · 15/03/2019 09:54

I don't think Cole was sneering in her post to me, anything is ineffectual that is said because those people have been murdered and nothing can change that.

Homebird8 · 15/03/2019 09:58

Kia kaha Aotearoa.

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 09:59

Yes thanks @brizzlemint that's what I meant. It was just my initial reaction.

FiveShelties · 15/03/2019 10:00

Just shocking, I cannot believe it.

Kia Kaha Christchurch

darkriver19886 · 15/03/2019 10:02

My heart goes out to you all in NZ x

AnneOfCleanTables · 15/03/2019 10:16

Awful news. People should be safe in a place of worship. Flowers

HoraceCope · 15/03/2019 10:55

Really shocking and worrying, white extremists

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2019 10:56

49 dead now. Shit.

CoverYourEarsTeam · 15/03/2019 11:04

My 💔🖤 also. Sending all the arohanui to NZ and its millions of good people tonight.

Jacinda Adern = how amazing.

For another PP, it is quite the bone of contention in some parts of NZ and Australia, but the head of state for both is QEII. (Who has sent a lovely message in the wake of this tragedy)

Leader of both nations is NZ PM Jacinda Arden and Aus PM Scott Morrison.

CoverYourEarsTeam · 15/03/2019 11:05

*Jacinda Ardern.

Two goes, both wrong - how does that happen Hmm

Colourpencils · 15/03/2019 11:08

So horrific. So sorry for you beautiful New Zealand. I was living in Australia when that awful Martin someone killed many in Tasmania - it's just beyond horrific. This reminds of that dreadful Anders terrorist in Norway who just picked off all those poor students on the island. The thought that people sit and plan it is beyond comprehension Sad

Zoeputthatdown · 15/03/2019 11:20

Very distressing, what wickedness.

PerkingFaintly · 15/03/2019 11:20

The terrorist filmed his own actions and was clearly seeking publicity.

So I'll be trying to follow the No Notoriety protocol.

nonotoriety.com

NO NAME. NO PHOTO. NO NOTORIETY.

IT’S A MATTER OF PUBLIC SAFETY
The quest for notoriety and infamy is a well known motivating factor in rampage mass killings and violent copycat crimes. In an effort to reduce future tragedies, we challenge the media – calling for responsible media coverage for the sake of public safety when reporting on individuals who commit or attempt acts of rampage mass violence thereby depriving violent like minded individuals the media celebrity and media spotlight they so crave.
