The Pope, the President of Poland, the Germans and the Italians not showing the UK in a very good light is it.

ladymelbourne1926 · 26/04/2018 08:46

I also agree that something has to be done now. Yes he's still alive but not without CPR. Surely he will have to be made a ward of court.
I hope Alfie's parents can come to acceptance and spend what time remains peacefully with their son. I wish them and him peace.

ItsNachoCheese · 26/04/2018 08:47

The hospital have gave alfie the best care they could i dont doubt that at all

numptynuts · 26/04/2018 08:47

God I feel sick thinking of all this. Please let him go.

@sashh, did you read the statements put out by the bishops conference. And the article in the tablet by the Archbishop yesterday. It will not be the case. I told the Archbishop to tell the pope that he should keep his nose out. I suspect he didn't though!

Dinosaurchicken · 26/04/2018 08:49

I cannot believe they are being allowed to recusitate him. Sad

LunaTrap · 26/04/2018 08:51

Does Alfie's guardian have a role to play here? Ought she intervene to prevent his care plan from being disrupted or is her role just for court?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 26/04/2018 08:51

The Pope, the President of Poland, the Germans and the Italians not showing the UK in a very good light is it.
Not sure what your point is but frankly I'm far more ashamed of the AAs actions

Soubriquet · 26/04/2018 08:51

I can't believe he is going back to court. Surely nothing can be changed now?

Do court have to honour every application or can they say enough is enough?

That poor child.

Stormy76 · 26/04/2018 08:51

I think the father is just desperate to save his child, he is in denial and will never accept that there was nothing that could be done. He may be making rash statements and claims but he is a desparate man. I am sure the medical staff at the hospital are worried about his behaviour but I also believe that they will empathise with him and have compassion for all three of them.

I cannot help but feel compassion for this little family, I don't believe that they should be resuscitating Alfie when he starts to struggle but then again I have never sat and watched my own child dying before my eyes, I have never had Doctors say they will not treat my child because there is nothing else they can do for him. All I see when Alfie's father is on tv or hear him on a radio is a desparate man trying to do anything he can to stop his child die, I just feel compassion for their situation, I don't judge because I do not know how I would behave if I was in that position.

Springnowplease · 26/04/2018 08:52

Please let's ignore user45's ignorant ramblings. This thread is no place for GFs and their made up facts..

The Pope, the President of Poland, the Germans and the Italians not showing the UK in a very good light is it.

On the contrary: it's showing us in a very good light. The considered rule of law by a mature and well-structured judicial process, with multiple appeals, versus some blokes who don't know the facts of the case spouting off.

The Pope has form for talking bollocks about child protection and having to back down shortly afterwards when the facts become apparent. To avoid accusations of "fake news",here's The Tablet on the topic.

The Pope says he made "serious mistakes in the assessment and perception of the situation, especially due to a lack of truthful and balanced information".

He writes: "I ask forgiveness of all those I have offended and I hope to be able to do it personally in the coming weeks." The letter was released by the Vatican late on Wednesday April 11. Several survivors apparently have been invited to the Vatican to meet the pope.

Dear God, it's getting so every post in this thread needs an automatic footer with an explanation of the King case in it.

The King case is not an example of the NHS failing and parents knowing better than doctors. It's an example of parents not realising the limits of their knowledge and hurting their son's care. And if you must cite it incorrectly, learn to spell "Ashya'" correctly.

YellowPinkie · 26/04/2018 08:53

Unfortunately the only way they will learn about this illness surely is to do tests and research on his body once he has passed? So as to possibly help future children. I very much doubt that will be allowed though and I totally understand why a parent wouldn't allow that.
I read somewhere that the condition? (Is that the right word?) may be named after Alfie.
It's a horrible situation all around.

mydogisthebest · 26/04/2018 08:54

I don't understand how they are being allowed to resuscitate him. They are just prolonging the inevitable.

If the doctors or nurses can't stop the parents then surely Alfie should be made a ward of Court and the parents removed from his room. I know that would be harsh but how on earth are they helping him now?

CocoaGin · 26/04/2018 08:54

I'm actually really sickened today that this is being allowed to happen in a UK hospital. Everyone is talking about Alfie's best interests but no one is acting in them Sad

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 26/04/2018 08:54

Stormy
I think everyone on here would agree. Losing a child, and in this manner, must be a pain unimaginable. There is no way, as a normal human being, to not feel sorrow for the family going through this.

LunaTrap · 26/04/2018 08:54

I don't think the UK looks bad at all. I think doctors and courts continuing to put the best interests of the child first despite abuse, threats and smears is extremely admirable.

goodbyestranger · 26/04/2018 08:55

Hmm, I'm not so sure YellowPinkie. If every single time the behaviour escalated the disruptive or shouty parent was removed then the choice of being with the child or not would be theirs. I think the hospital seems to be cutting enormous slack, given that other parents on the unit have a desperate need for quiet. Those are the people I feel by far the most sorry for in all this. Their experience of their own child dying will have been played out against the most unhelpful background imaginable. I don't believe that there's any situation in life which allows complete self absorption when it profoundly affects others. Sometimes people just have to accept 'no'. It seems to have become harder in the modern world, I'm not sure why.

fenneltea · 26/04/2018 08:56

Agreed Luna.

numptynuts · 26/04/2018 08:56

And I’m angry that LBC and GMB are interviewing TE with no obvious restrictions on what he says. Of course they’ll know from all the courage that he’s likely to call the doctors murderers. To let him come on and say that, and that the doctors give him “smug looks” is despicable IMO.

I think Nick Ferrari got his point across.

Quick update. According the the Daily Fail, they have dropped their case to try and take him to Italy

SoupyNorman · 26/04/2018 08:58

TE said he’s going back to court if the hospital won’t agree today to allow him to take Alfie home and, if necessary, all the way to the European Court of Human Rights.
