For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

eh?
I didn't say I didn't

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:59

... agree... but did the person who took Madeleine EVER imagine that this case would get the massive profile that it has? I am staggered and confused by my own (and other's) interest in this case. It feels as if half the planet is HOPING and praying for the safe return of Medeleine. This surely must affect the people/person who are/is hiding her?

littlemissbossy · 15/05/2007 19:13

It's also been reported today that Warwickshire police are helping the Portuguese with there enquiries?? presumably because he returned to the UK briefly last week?? an earlier poster today suggested that he could have used his DDs passport - speculation I know but not unthinkable
I think she is still alive.

debbsyandsonn · 15/05/2007 19:31

i agree

Frizbe · 15/05/2007 19:38

doesn't him being helpful and involved remind you of Ian Huntley I so hope they find her alive and that she's ok as can be.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/05/2007 19:39

dh commented on that today Frizbe.

BigPantsRule · 15/05/2007 19:49

About the passport idea. Since children's passports do not have to be renewed for five years, it follows that ANY 3 or 4-year old girl's passport showing a photo of a baby could have been used for Madeleine, because a child under the age of five will not have had their passport renewed yet. The child simply has to be about the right age. And with her hair cut, a small girl could easily be disguised as a boy.

paulaplumpbottom · 15/05/2007 19:51

But everyone would spot her here, she would have been noticed in the airport surely

littlemissbossy · 15/05/2007 19:54

perhaps not if she was dressed as a boy

mumemma · 15/05/2007 19:55

If that was the case, presumably not difficult to check out for the police as he would have had to buy a ticket for her. Why would he want to take her to England though? Wouldn't that be madness with all the media frenzy originating from the UK?

ThatBeetroot · 15/05/2007 19:56

speculation speculation - let's wiat for hard evndence I reckon

BigPantsRule · 15/05/2007 19:59

That may be the case now, but not when she first went missing, unfortunately . The news about Madeleine's disappearance was not reported in the UK until Friday and even then there was much uncertainty about whether she had actually been abducted.

quietmouse · 15/05/2007 20:03

why would he disguise her as a boy and bring her to England?? I do think that's a little far fetched tbh.

More likely she is in one of his properties somewhere on the Algarve. I think she could still be local and I am praying she is still alive.

There is still hope. I hate some of the negative posts on this thread

mumemma · 15/05/2007 20:04

I think ThatBeetroot's right - we should try and wait for the news. The police statement earlier said that the results of the forensic tests are not available yet and they could be key to further developments. I assume it won't take longer than 24-48 hours for those to be completed.

littlemissbossy · 15/05/2007 20:05

I do actually think it is more probable that she is local, probably within a few miles and that they're just waiting for the dust to settle/media exposure to die down before they make their next move

ScoobyDooooo, it was me that asked about the woman and exh, sorry you got hassle for it..and from that photo, she DOES look blonde..i know its a stupid comment, but they just dont look 'the type'??and she /they already have a son?, surley a parent them selves wouldnt do something/or be a part of something like this???
very sad to see(although dont know wether paper suspect or police, from that paragraph?) that they suspectted there were images of children on his computer??

PinkChick · 15/05/2007 20:09

and in reference to someones post earlier, although i in no way comapre myself to madeleine, but i was abused horrifically as a child and i am still here, amanging to live a happy life. i hope to GOD no one has harmed a hair on her head, BUT if they have, she will be ok, there will be so much support for her and i know i would rather be here to tell the tale.
I pray she is safe and unharmed and is found soon so they can start repairing the damage this has done

quietmouse · 15/05/2007 20:13

I missed that link showing his girlfriend and her ex. There is definate similiarity to the description of the two men and one woman at the petrol station.

The woman was said to look 'foreign' and one of the men had small round glasses.

What the hell have they done with her?

poor little soul

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 20:33

It does seem to add up, quiet mouse.

DrNortherner · 15/05/2007 20:34

Pinkchick what a touching post. People can and do come through abuse - you are living proof!

BigPantsRule · 15/05/2007 20:40

I actually agree with you QM and LMB. I've thought she was somewhere local since the middle of last week when John O'Connell (not sure if I've got his name right), the former Scotland Yard detective, expressed his opinion on Sky.

Let's all hope for some good news soon...

LucyJones · 15/05/2007 20:45

Morat has been interviewed by Sky. He's said he's been made a scapegoat and it has ruined his life and his family's

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 20:45

Update on sky news -

Madeleine Suspect Speaks To Sky News
Updated: 20:33, Tuesday May 15, 2007

Robert Murat has told Sky News that being labelled the chief suspect in the Madeleine McCann case has "ruined his life".
Speaking exclusively to Sky after he was released by police, the Briton said he had been made a "scapegoat" by investigators.
Police said they did not have enough evidence to charge Mr Murat in connection with the four-year-old's disappearance.

"This has ruined my life and made my life very difficult for my family here and in Britain," he said.

"The only way I will survive this is if they catch Madeleine's abductor."

He added: "I've been made a scapegoat for something I did not do."

More follows . . .

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 20:49

No smoke without fire?

mumemma · 15/05/2007 20:51

Is it really wise to talk to the press when he's still officially classified as a suspect?
