I've not seen a thread about it at all, but surely there must be?

Interesting thread. I live in Salisbury too, fairly close to Skripal's home. Very strange to have all this happening in our sleepy little city.

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 09/03/2018 18:15

Hi Play

It's surreal isn't it?

PlayAtMidnight2 · 09/03/2018 18:18

Absolutely surreal! Feels like some crazy dream.

JustGettingStarted · 09/03/2018 18:18

Well, if they were describing his behaviour, what is wrong with that? "He was being arsey because his food was delayed" just tells you that he was perhaps behaving strangely. What probably just appeared as obnoxious behaviour was possibly due to the poison. But there's nothing wrong with noting that someone is behaving a particular way.

If they said, "That guy? What an asshole! Was a real jerk about his order taking 40 minutes" then, yeah, that's unkind.

Barbara1956 · 09/03/2018 18:28

Hi Play, Hi whatis...we should get together to sort this out 😁
I'm in Bishopdown and just drove to Southampton Road, obvs went past the cemetery for a nose on the way...lots of police...I guess their overtime budget is screwed for this year!
It's all a bit James Bond and as you have said full of inconsistencies...
we moved here 20 years ago and were gazumped on a house in Christie Miller Rd...we could have been neighbours!

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 09/03/2018 18:30
Grin

Where is Mr Bond when you need him!

Blimey Barbara, that's crazy, you could have been neighbours.

We haven't ventured out since that Sunday...

LizzieSiddal · 09/03/2018 18:43

JustGettingStarted I agree with you plus no one knows it was Zizzis staff who described his behaviour. It could have been another customer who went to the press.

LizzieSiddal · 09/03/2018 18:44

Dh was went this afternoon, he said it was very quiet. I feel sorry for all the businesses and hope it all gets back to normal soon. Also I hope it doesn’t affect tourism. Hundreds of thousands visit the cathedral every year.

LizzieSiddal · 09/03/2018 18:45

Excuse typos.

brownelephant · 09/03/2018 18:46

Also I hope it doesn’t affect tourism.

it will attract disaster tourism...

It was more like that. It was the actual chef who was interviewed, because he had to claim that the food wasn't poisoned. He said the drinks could have been (as they are made at the bar) but the food, he had an eye on all the time.

He went on to say about him being an arsehole as he waited (only) 40 minutes for his food. The whole thing felt disrespectful in my humble opinion. I tried to find the original article, but I can't.

LizzieSiddal · 09/03/2018 19:02

Sad We don’t want them Brown
We want the nice people who come at the moment. Lovely people from all over the world who usually go and see Stonehenge and then the Cathedral.

Barbara1956 · 09/03/2018 19:07

This is disrespectful to the victims but a bit of levity is good...I found this in Homesense this afternoon ..!

Barbara1956 · 09/03/2018 19:09

Oh hell the photo won't load..it is a bottle of Ricin ...?...shampoo !!

Barbara1956 · 09/03/2018 19:21

Sorry to anyone offended. I guess I am as worried as every else here in Salisbury...we simply do not know enough to feel totally assurred.

BettyBaggins · 09/03/2018 19:36

I dont ble ve it was the chef, but another staff member who said he watched the chef prepare a seafood risotto.

Is there any news of how the spy and daughter are faring?

There do seem to be a few holes in the reported details. Has there been an official press detraction about the video of the wrong couple?

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 09/03/2018 19:37

Why would you call Shampoo Ricin?!

BettyBaggins · 09/03/2018 19:38

*believe

mixture · 09/03/2018 19:49

Well, everyone knows where Salisbury is now. Peculiar method. It says in my local Scandinavian paper that 21 other innocent have been treated for injuries, passers-by and rescue staff - how is it going for them?

Barbara1956 · 09/03/2018 20:48

This is what I meant ....

Hi Mixture - as far as we know, everyone is ok apart from the police officer.

Barbara - how did anyone come up with that brand name?! Anyone who's seen breaking bad knows how dangerous that stuff is Grin

Barbara1956 · 09/03/2018 21:10

Yes , I couldn't believe it either ....don't you agree the news is getting a bit more scary....

BettyBaggins · 09/03/2018 22:01

This sign up free article gives more details about the spies current life, why the poisoning was rushed and more public than planned. (Snow and the imminent departure of daughter who was on hit list too made the 'job' sloppier than planned.) And some background on how much of this stuff might go on. It's worth signing up for. No, I do not work for the paper lol

This link suggests a reason why Russia may have ordered Litvinenkos' poisoning.

It's all a bit nuts. 21 people not well is very worrying.

I love Salisbury and will make an extra effort to visit this summer, I love a nose round the antique shops and theres a lovely gallery who's name escapes me that did a great lunch. I miss the antiquarian bookshop though a lovely day out. Thoughts to those reading with family poorly Flowers

siscaza · 09/03/2018 22:33

I live in Salisbury too and will be making an extra effort to go in at the weekend and spend some money to support businesses 😊

PatriarchyPersonified · 09/03/2018 22:42

So it now turns out the Police Officer who was hospitalised did not actually attend the scene but was the first person to enter Skripal's house, he subsequently became ill and took himself to hospital. Seems to indicate that they were exposed in the home and then became ill an hour or so later.

That time delay doesn't fit the profile of any known Nerve Agent. Yet the government press releases have confirmed it was a 'nerve agent'.

This is getting more and more interesting.
