I listened to an Intelligence expert on the radio this morning and he was speculating that it would be very unusual for any retaliation to be based on Skirpal's old work as a double agent. He thought the time elapsed between events was too great, plus he’d been swapped.

He speculated that it would be more likely as a result of Skirpal's recent activity, whatever that might be.

I do hope they have some chance of recovery. Poor police officer.

Staff and chef spoke about him in a really shitty way, calling him an arsehole.

Apart from the fact he waited 40 minutes for his food, I imagine the poison was kicking in and making him feel shit.

Anyone who has been ill in public (had HG and hemiplegic migraines) when you’re out and about or in a restaurant - you’re trying to appear ‘well’ when you feel like keeling over.

I hope to god they pull through, and we can find who did this. Having Porton Down so close was a good thing to diagnose and work out (hopefully) treatment so fast.

Very depressingly I remember reading after Litvinenko that the UK has a disproportionate amount of this sort of thing going on - Russians being murdered presumably by their government. The reason it happens more in the uk is that our government basically allows it/does nothing about it

It’s been a hot topic for a while and a lot of anger at no CCTV.

There was talk of it going on last year in December, but still not being manned.

Strange that the only CCTV image we have is from the gym camera and not even of Sergei but another couple (they think).

Where’s the images of them around town? We just have a shop footage of him buying scratch cards in bargain store

I don’t get info from twitter etc but have been waiting for local news to verify. They should have checked it before printing, but I think they are desperate to cover the story before the nationals.

It was something I wondered about from the outset as well. But, it’s all so horrific you end up keeping quiet in case you make a fool of yourself.

Suggestion here about the timing. With the caveat that despite strong pointers we don't yet know definitely who was behind the attack.

according to the Journal a couple of weeks ago the CCTV went live again in January and is manned so I too am wondering where all the other footage is.
There are plenty of cameras by the park because the council wanted to keep tabs on the homeless people congregating there...Then there are the cameras by Sainsburys...it's all very odd.

StealthPolarBear - the staff and chef at Zizzi were questioned and their reports were that he was agitated and behaving like an arsehole because he waited 40 minutes for food.

I am annoyed with this because a) this man is fighting for his life b) I don’t want his last (possible) moments to be remembered as him acting like an a hole and c) It’s possible he was poisoned already and feeling shit.

The bit I'm most confused about is the 1 cctv video we have of a couple. At first they said it was Sergei and his daughter, then they said it was a different couple, then they said it was Sergei with a different woman walking beside him.

This is also confusing with timeline, as they said he went to Zizzi and then the Mill, and then fell ill at the bench. This isn't the way you walk though. The couple on the cctv (if it is them) would have come from Zizzi through the walkway, to the bench.

If the timeline is right then they were at The Mill pub last then to the bench, then the couple under the market walk is not them. Unless they walked a very very weird way around.

I'm over invested clearly. This is my home town
