I've not seen a thread about it at all, but surely there must be?

Good question sparkle .

I can't tell from what I've read ,I'm going with at the scene ( not necessarily ) the first and then to the house .

What do others think ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/03/2018 21:01

Startling acceleration of events today. There must be something happening behind the scenes to get so many countries on board.

Can someone clarify for me, the countries that are expelling Russian diplomats, are they expelling all the Russian diplomats in that country, so 60 for the USA, 23 for the UK, 4 for France, or are they picking and choosing which Russian diplomats should be sent home?

I was surprised we had 23 while `France and Germany had 4 each, or is this only part of the total number?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/03/2018 21:11

It looks like they are picking and choosing.

Yes I agree, a huge escalation today, definitely a lot going on that we done know about. It's not a nice feeling to be bracing for the consequences.

The policeman had been released though? Last week?

nursy1 · 27/03/2018 05:17

Sparkle
There have been mixed reports on DS Bailey and where he went. At first reported he was on the scene at the bench but as others on thread have said, it seems unlikely a Detective Seargeant was patrolling central Salisbury. Then it was reported that he had never been at the scene but was despatched directly to the Skripal house - I suppose to see if there were other family members there? At that stage there were just two seriously ill people and they obviously didn’t know what was causing it.
It’s one of the things that makes me suspicious that our authorities don’t really know how this nerve agent was administered or spread.
I’m speculating that perhaps the wild card is that the Skripals were meant to be poisoned in their house, and perhaps not found until dead and the nerve agent degraded. Unfortunately they set off out into town!

Ohyoubadkitten
Definitely something going on behind the scenes with so many countries backing the UK.
'Unity is strength, strength is unity' comes to mind.
Could have impact on Brexit too.
UK/ EU allies.
Better together and all that.

Nursy that is why I came on the thread to clarify where exactly the policeman was contaminated , as there were conflicting accounts.

Does anyone know if/when the outcome of the ...whatever it was called global testing agency ...investigation of results ,material will be released ?

pestilentialboundary · 27/03/2018 16:37

The OPCW team started work in Salisbury on Weds 21st March and expect the investigation to take 2 to 3 weeks.

C4 have an article that weighs the case against Russia www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/long-read-does-the-uks-case-against-russia-stack-up.
My comment on this is, every CW lab in the world will have had a good look at Novichok style nerve agents, their formulae were published a quarter of a century ago. A good chemist is curious; If your job is nerve agents and antidotes then you need to analyse, make and try for an antidote. I know these things are secret but please tell me we have competent people working at Porton.

news.sky.com/story/salisbury-nerve-agent-attack-sergei-skripal-and-daughter-yulia-should-be-allowed-to-die-11306692

This is a sad article, assuming the person described as his best friend has had some direct information on their physical condition.

peridito · 28/03/2018 09:21

Thank you pestilential .

meditrina ,interesting article .

I wonder if they will be allowed to die ? Presumably nok/relatives would be consulted ?

I do hope that both are deeply enough sedated that they are not aware .Bit concerned by reports of the daughter not making "meaningful" attempts to communicate .Can't help thinking she's making an effort to communicate but is not succeeding .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/03/2018 09:41

I guess if they are on artificial support and taken off it, then it becomes murder, but in a way that could perhaps be spun by the Russians (uk didn't make enough effort to save our citizens lives etc)

aah ,good point OYBK

poor buggers

angstinabaggyjumper · 28/03/2018 13:37

If DS Bailey was contaminated at the Skripals house how did he get in? Surely if he thought they were drug takers he might have rung the doorbell but left it it at that when he got no answer?

peridito · 28/03/2018 14:01

Perhaps there were keys and identifying docs on the Skripals when they were found ?

pestilentialboundary · 28/03/2018 14:02

Hmm, interesting angst , would he have needed a warrant to let himself in with the keys found on the Skripals?

angstinabaggyjumper · 28/03/2018 16:55

I believe he would if he just thought it was drugs. But I’m no expert. I think it could be assumed that by the time he got there they knew it was more than drugs.

peridito · 28/03/2018 17:06

I imagine they would have been v anxious to see if any substance in the house could be identified as the one causing their symptoms .

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/03/2018 20:32

BBC just breaking the news on their website that police believe the first contact came from their front door.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/03/2018 20:38

This is the police statement

news.met.police.uk/news/update-salisbury-investigation-300644

BakedBeans47 · 28/03/2018 20:45

I suppose he could have been going to inform next of kin, and there could have been some of the agent on the outside of the front door?

counterpoint · 28/03/2018 22:48

Oh, so somebody came from Russia and smeared nerve agent on their front door then fled?

nursy1 · 28/03/2018 23:48

Oh, so somebody came from Russia and smeared nerve agent on their front door then fled

It looks like that doesn’t it? Bit random though as they were on the other side of the door. Delivery people or the postman could have got their hands on it first.

BakedBeans47 · 28/03/2018 23:54

Unless it was on the inside of course?

I can’t think of this without just feeling so sad for those poor people. They’re not going to get better, are they :(
