I know I am a 'Bunglie of very little brain' but I am being serious here....What exactly is a 'Green Paper'? And what was the 'Green Paper in July?
I know this is probably quite obvious to the rest of you, but all I know is that governments produce 'Green Papers' but when I started to think about it I had no idea what one is!

LunarSea · 21/09/2004 14:17

Bunglie - a "Green Paper" is a govenrment consultation document - basically proposals which they want interested parties/organisations to respond to/comment on, as a part of the process for drafting future legislation.

The July one, called "Parental Separation: Children's Needs and Parents' Responsibilities" is here

Bunglie · 21/09/2004 22:25

Thanks again LunarSea
Would this have anything todo with why my MP had contacted the DCA and they wanted some info? or do you think that is pure coincidence?

I am reading the 'Green paper' tonight, however is it just circulated to MP's or relevent organisations and Local Authorities or to anybody who is interested?

Sorry...I am asking lots of questions trying to sort it out in my brain

I had heard of 'Green Papers' but it was not until I thought about it I did not realise that I had no idea what one was, so thank you again.

I have just watched a programme on TV, BBC2 (I think not sure) it was about these amazing people who have adopted 6 children 3 of which (possibly more!) had 'Special Needs'. It was called the "Woods at Wit's End". I must admit I was really impressed by them and thought that there are some really good adoptive parents out ther. What I was horrified about was that they were not told some of the children had 'learning disabilities' prior to adopting them, in one childs case they were only told it had 'speach delay' I was amazed that this could happen and that they did not find out until after the adoption. But what wonderful patient parents they seemed to be. It totally restored my faith in Adoptive Parents and realised that they don't do it for the money or any other reason I have had cited to me,but out of pure love and wanting to be good parents to a child, any child that needed their love but also permenance.
One thing about the programme that made me think was that the adoptive mother in this family did not think that the past was necessarily good for the children to look back on. However I do not know if their was a history of abuse and I feel she was genuinly trying to protect her children. Perhaps that is what my children's AP's are thinking, but then my children do seem to want to know and are asking questions, these children were not that old and had 'learning difficulties' so I guess every case should be judged individually.
Did anybody else see this Prog?

soapbox · 21/09/2004 22:39

Bunglie there is a thread about it here !

How are you - have you heard any more from your lovely DS or DD??

Bunglie · 21/09/2004 22:42

Thanks Soapbox, I have just posted on it...our posts crossed. I guess my comments are more about adoption than 'special needs'

I don't have any news about my dd or ds, wish I had

soapbox · 21/09/2004 22:44

Awww Bunglie - your time will come and hopefully soon. It must tear you apart .

Did you write to your DS - can understand if you don't want to post details here...

Bunglie - anyone can respond to a Green Paper, but in practice it is mostly organisations which do. Usually when they are released the orgaisations with obvious interests in the area will know in advance, and will actually be sent copies, but they are always available on a government website somewhere for the general public to access. They are supposed to be a "public consultation" after all - it's just that most people leave responding to the organisations with a particular interest in the area.

LunarSea · 23/09/2004 15:53

The official press release about this is here

Bunglie · 23/09/2004 17:04

Thanks LunarSea....
I wish I had your knack of finding the info.
I am just glad that you are a MNer
I will have a 'Bunglie release' to send out shortly !(IYKWIM)

Not so long ago someone pointed out to me "How would your children feel if they came across this thread"? It was a bit of a eye opener for me as I realised that I had put things here that my children do not know, so please excuse my caution as I would hate them to think that I had posted things about them and they not know.

Can anybody send in a response to a green paper?

Bunglie · 23/09/2004 17:10

When I said 'Can anybody send in a response' what I meant really I guess is if for example I sent in a response, because I do not represent an organisation or government body would they read it or disregard it in your opinion. Or, to put it even more simply, do people send in responses and they are read?

Janh are you about...or busy at the moment, can you email me when you have some time to spare please ?

I am thinking of starting a thread...which MNer would you like to be your mum....cos my vote goes to Janh, but am bit worried it might end up as a popularity contest

kalex · 23/09/2004 17:14

Bunglie,

Jan has gone on holiday to France. She left today, don't know how long she will be. HTH

Bunglie · 23/09/2004 17:22

Thanks Kalex, I forgot!
I hope she has a nice stress free holiday...I want to go

LunarSea · 23/09/2004 19:53

Bunglie - detaails about responding to the green paper are here

LunarSea · 23/09/2004 19:55

For some reason it's not on that page, but they usually put something like (I copied this from another govt consultations page) "Your comments on this Paper will be highly valued, particularly to the questions posed at the end of each chapter. However, please feel free to respond to as many of the issues raised as you wish.

It would be helpful if respondents explain their role and in what capacity they are replying, i.e. as an individual or as representative of an organisation or body. You should note that your response will be made publicly available unless you request confidentiality."

Bunglie · 23/09/2004 20:02

Thanks again LunarSea

LunarSea · 28/09/2004 10:48

I missed this article last week in The Guardian , but possibly interesting reading for you Bunglie.

I think they're missing the point a bit though when they say "however - contrary to media expectations - there has been no flood of applications to re-open cases where children were allegedly wrongly taken into care on disputed medical evidence" because as we know if the children have been adopted or in long-term care, then there is little prospect of them returning to their parents, regardless of any injustice which has bene done.

Bunglie · 28/09/2004 11:10

Thanks Lunarsea, I shall read it.
I know of several parents who have asked for a review, based purely on disputed medical evidence and every single one has been turned down.
I think it is time for a government inquirey because this must prove that the social services really are incapable of 'policing' themselves.
As I said thanks again and I shall read the article.

Janh...my email box shows that you sent me an email but I can't get into my emails at the moment, it's not just yours....I have a fault somewhere but will reply as soon as I can get in. It is as bad as waiting for a letter...you know it's there but you can't read it

I hope you had a lovely 'romantic' break in France....., but glad you are back home with us!

Off to 'tweak' my server details (so I can read my emails) and read this article....

MTS · 28/09/2004 11:16

Thought people might be interested in this story from the bbc web site:-

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3687612.stm

apparently the government are to hold an enquiry re:false diagnoses of MSBP of parents of children with Aspergers syndrome

Bunglie · 28/09/2004 11:26

Thanks MTS,(I still want to put M27!!)
I wonder how long it will be before this 'whole thing is blown apart'?

I forgot to post this but I spoke to Spuddy and Cheesy at the weekend, Cheesy is a bit down and feeling a bit 'alone', but she stayed over with Spuddy on Sunday night so I hope they managed to have a good natter. I will phone her later in the week just so she knows that we want her back.
It must be awful for her alone, but I am glad that she is rebuilding a life for herself and hopefully she will be back on form soon. There is a chance that she may get re-housed quite near to Spuddy, so fingers crossed.

It makes me feel all warm inside to know that MNet, brought these two lovely people together, helped them with their very real problems and to see them slowly moving on to what I hope will be a new and happier stage of their lives.

I think that you MNers should be very proud of yourselves. I can not count the times that you have helped me personally.

IKNT-I owe you an email, I am having problems logging onto my internet provider at the moment but will send you one as soon as I can.

Postsue - Have you got over your 'flu' yet, would a phonecall cheer you up?

LunarSea · 28/09/2004 12:06

The audio link the the report in MTS's article is here

JanH · 28/09/2004 12:08

Hi, bunglie - my email was just to say "here is an email!" after I saw your post from Thursday, so you don't need to read it if you want to email me now...?

Bunglie · 28/09/2004 14:26

Thanks Janh
I hope to get my email back and running like clockwork soon....I think I've got a worm or virus thingy....but the nice men at Symantic are sorting it for me
I shall email you then if that's OK with you?
It is interferring with my MNet viewing....and I want to know if 'The plumber' is OK
I think I am going cold turkey with lack of MNet as I can only poke my head in every couple of hours........the withdrawal is awful...
Can we have an MNet addiction area to help with the symptoms
It is all very depressing as I click on a link and it either crashes or takes 20 minutes before it comes up and I have broadband?
So much for ISP problems?
I shall be back when I have my computer sorted.

Bunglie · 29/09/2004 17:53

SORRY MTS, I hope you did not misunderstand my posting.
When i wrote "I wonder how long before this whole thing is blown apart" I meant MSbP, and nothing to do with your understandable and sad need to change your name. I hope I did not cause offence and just realised , How it could be seen. SORRY

MTS · 29/09/2004 17:56

Bunglie - didn't for one minute interpret your comment as anything other than related to MSBP!
