What is the most likely solution?

OP posts:

I'm unlikely to read all 300 posts of this thread

Sums up most brexit people, I can't be arsed to look into what's going on, I'll just shout my ignorant rant over and over with my fingers in my ears.

Martina888 · 27/11/2017 19:19

and the tone here from some of you guys is 'if UK leaves the EU then the criminals may commit crime again, hence we should stay' - I mean, boy, is that some kind of appeasement or what!

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:20

Martina, take it from me, there are paramilitary factions just waiting for the command.

Martina888 · 27/11/2017 19:20

Ifailed: yeah, right, like you just always read 13 pages of posts before you chip in, I doubt it

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2017 19:21

yes, but that's in the past

It's really not.

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:21

No, the tone here is the Britain is leaving the EU and they need to figure out what to do about the Irish border.

Ifailed · 27/11/2017 19:21

Don't judge people by your own low standards.

Martina888 · 27/11/2017 19:21

whayagonna: if that's really the case, then are u saying we should just do what they want? sounds kind of weak

Martina888 · 27/11/2017 19:22

the border solution is easy - just have a border , problem solved, now, why didn't I think of that myself....

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:23

What most people are trying to do here is to discuss what might be a working solution.

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:25

Do you have any appreciation for the amount of people murdered because of the border issue?

Martina888 · 27/11/2017 19:27

Can you show me a recent statement by the Irish government that the UK should hand over NI to them?

Holliewantstobehot · 27/11/2017 19:27

The border runs through peoples actual houses. How you gonna sort that?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2017 19:27

How about a border between England and Scotland.

NI / Scot (who both voted remain) could stay in the single market and customs union.

NI would have no border with the UK. Irish imports/exports could travel by road via Scotland?

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:27

Also, the extra costs for security, intelligence, infrastructure repair? The effect on ordinary people?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2017 19:29

Can you show me a recent statement by the Irish government that the UK should hand over NI to them?

Eh? Unlike you I have read the whole thread, and no-one has said that.

Holliewantstobehot · 27/11/2017 19:29

Educate yourself. Its part of the population of NI who want a united Ireland.

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:30

NI and Scotland belong to the UK. The UK as a whole voted to leave. Therefore, they are leaving too. That's democracy.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2017 19:30

Martina You need at least some basic knowledge to understand this, go and read up on the history of NI, and then come back.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2017 19:32

The UK as a whole voted to leave

To leave the EU. Not to leave the single market etc. No-one knew what they were voting for

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:34

Yes they did. That was available information.

Whoyagonna · 27/11/2017 19:36

I think people knew what they were voting for, but the practicalities of it all was beyond our imaginations.

cathyclown · 27/11/2017 19:40

Martina appears to be the epitome of Brexiteers.

I'm so sorry to say it martina, but your ignorance of the situation is absolutely unbelievable. But maybe you are trolling for a reaction, who knows.

NI and ROI have a great relationship at the moment it's all quiet and good and works seamlessly.

Throw a manned border into the equation that no one North or South really wants, add in the intransigence of the DUP and what do you get?

Think about it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2017 19:41

Yes they did. That was available information

"Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?" Was the question. Nothing about whether or not people wanted to leave the single market etc

annandale · 27/11/2017 19:54

I would find you amusing Martina if what you are saying didn't sound quite like several of our elected representatives.

It's quite old now but I thoroughly recommend Making Sense of the Troubles as a helpful book in understanding different views on this and some of the agonies involved. But it's a lot longer than a 13 page thread so, yanno, whatevs.
