Ok guys, we have been very lucky to discuss this, please lets not give anyone anything to complain about, Mhq have been more than accomodating.

Judge: anything said in open court may be reported."

It sounds like that is the end of it for the courts. I hope everyone involved can make the best of what has been a difficult situation and case all round.

MissHavisham, a number of people, me included, have said they have no wish to chat on anywhere like Facebook where their real identity would be outed.

TinselTwins · 26/07/2017 17:52

What if this last 16 hours to "fight for Charlie one last time" that the judge has given to Connie actually does break her and she ends up collapsing and in hospital herself? what then? surely the plans cannot go ahead without her?

I'm glad the judge wrapped this up but I'm appauled at how he did it!
I'm very slightly in agreement with CA in that this 12 tomorrow thing doesn't benefit charlie, it definitely doesn't benefit Connie or Chris (as it's futile, the chances of them comming up with a viable plan tonight is so slim) but it DOES future proof GOSH a little bit, which should NOT be the point of the judgement!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 26/07/2017 17:52

I bet the legal teams and medical teams are ready for a wee hug. Don't envy them

Sirzy, there's no court hearing tomorrow.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 26/07/2017 17:54

Mucky but if the judge had said "tomorrow is when Charlie will be moved', the parents would spend the night with Charlie, knowing what is going to happen.

As it is, Connie is desperately trying to do something so they get to extend their with him. But that is not going to happen, so she is wasting precious time.

The judge should know this is what she would do and should have made the decision for them.

TinselTwins · 26/07/2017 17:54

They need for focus on spending what time they have left as a family wherever that may be.

How can they if they've got 16 hours to go on a wild goose chase to try and come up with an alternative plan that GOSH will agree to?

how?
Just how?

Sittinginthesun · 26/07/2017 17:54

I think the judge has come to a fair decision. It is a clear order, he has made it absolutely clear that it is the end of the proceedings, but has given the family enough time to sort out what details they can with GOSH. And if, as seems likely, they can't reach an agreement, then they follow a plan that GOSH have in place.

muckypup73 · 26/07/2017 17:54

Maryz, Agreed, but its Mumsnets site and I guess they can do whatever they want, they have been fair enough to let us have 18 threads.

blueskyinmarch · 26/07/2017 17:54

I would like to sit Connie down, tell her to take a deep breath, put all her devices away and go and spend some lovely time time Charlie. She can spend the time stroking him and telling him how much she loves him instead of wasting precious time on a futile exercise. I really hope someone does this because i would hate for her to look back one day and regret the amount of time she spent in court rather than being with her son.

Sirzy · 26/07/2017 17:55

I have just seen the fb post. Poor woman really isn't willing to accept the inevitable is she Sad

muckypup73 · 26/07/2017 17:55

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday, I know, I do admit that I find that highly infuriating, but its not my child, it maybe a decsision they come to regret.

LapinR0se · 26/07/2017 17:56

It is being reported by media as "no agreement as to where charlie would die"
That is not my understanding of the situation.
I thought he was definitely going to a hospice, question is just whether he will be extubated and pass away shortly after arrival, or whether a paediatric intensivist can stay and keep him alive for a week with his parents.

lougle · 26/07/2017 17:56

I think debating the logistics of ventilators is a bit futile - you can get transport ventilators such as the babyPAC ventilator that will fit in a changing bag, which all the experts who have testified will be very familiar with. But they will be even more familiar with Charlie Gard and his case and they will have very strong reasons why they haven't said that it is a viable option.

As with everything here, the whole is greater then the sum of its parts, and you can't fix this situation by tackling each individual component, because it has taken on a life of its own that extends far wider and deeper than the family at its centre.

Allington · 26/07/2017 17:56

There is no way back to court. If GOSH, C&C & the Guardian agree there is no need for a court ruling. If they don't all agree the ruling has been made. The only one possible I think.

SadAboutTheBoy · 26/07/2017 17:57

I haven't felt the need to post anything about this case before, but having just seen the picture on the bbc news website here www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-40733491 I find myself wondering how the heck this story has ended up like this.
I can't help feeling that the parents must have ended up being taken in and badly advised by the media and related 'gurus'. Pictures like this - with hearts and candles - don't just happen, they're all stage-managed. This picture is from a 'sell your story' organisation called FeatureWorld.
I can't help feeling that they have become so obsessed with the 'campaign' here that they've lost sight of what is important. It's all become like some horrible virtual reality TV programme with all the gawkers.
Someone is whipping this furore up for their own gain. No doubt there will be a 'Charlie's Story' book out in time for Christmas.

All very sad.

muckypup73 · 26/07/2017 17:57

Sirzy, nope and is that not heartbreaking? the thing she is fighting for is not going to happen and she is missing the most precious time she could, I know where I would be and what I would be doing, however we are all different.

Butterymuffin · 26/07/2017 17:57

What an awful day in court it's been. I feel relieved that a decision has now been made, even if it's held over for action till tomorrow, but it's so very, very sad for all concerned. I don't agree with Connie and Chris on a number of things but this must be unbearable and I feel for them. I hope they have supportive family and friends around - don't understand why Connie was alone in court but hope people can be with her and Chris now.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 26/07/2017 17:58

Can do so if it would help. Other place, not fb.

ItsNachoCheese · 26/07/2017 17:58

Sky news are about to run a piece on todays proceedings

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 26/07/2017 17:59

Any Dr CA could find - and lets not forget they have been desperate enough to try to emotionally blackmail medical students, so have presumably been turned down by all suitable Drs - would have to be approved and agreed by GOSH.

The order states that GOSH have to agree. That's not likely to happen for the very good reason that there is no such expert willing to or able to care for Charlie outside of GOSH for a prolonged period. I think that, finally, we now know what will happen.

alltouchedout · 26/07/2017 17:59

I just tried to imagine being in Connie and Chris's position and I couldn't even complete the thought. It was like looking into hell. So as much as I, from the comfort of my position as someone who has never had to face this, disagree with their actions, as wholeheartedly as I believe that Charlie's best interests must always take priority and it is in his best interests to be allowed to die as soon as possible, for his parents I feel nothing but sympathy. Their agony is beyond my experience and I do not have it in me to condemn them when I think about what they are going through.

JaneEyre70 · 26/07/2017 17:59

I think C & C need to accept they've got a transfer, and it's the time they spend with Charlie AFTER his passing that is going to matter more than the time before. They will get time for cuddles, photos, baths, songs and the freedom of no medical equipment. I treasured the time I had with my stillborn son, and the staff went to extraordinary lengths to make sure that happened for us. I hope they get to see the bigger picture before tomorrow. They will have no more control over Charlie's alive medical state in a hospice than they do in GOSH.

Sirzy · 26/07/2017 18:00

Completely heartbreaking mucky. I just hope she doesn't live to regret the time wasted fighting. Someone needs to take her under their wing and help her properly. Sadly she isn't getting that help from her extended family (I assume from their whipping up of a media frenzy) and certainly not from "charlies army". I wonder if one of the child bereavement charities was to reach out to her if that would help her.
