This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

I've just read that bbc link. How dare protestors cause distress to other families at GOSH? It seems that their concern doesn't extend to other sick children and their parents, only the high profile ones.

I'm struggling to understand the motivation of CA. This thread is pretty much in agreement with GOSH's stance but if the evidence and meeting had shown that the damage wasn't as extensive and treatment could help I'm sure we would all be happy to accept that. Yet the evidence going against CA's view just entrenches them further and instead of accepting it they just make up more and more ludicrous conspiracy theories. What are they getting out of this?

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 21/07/2017 19:00

I think I read that the pastor is flying back to the UK at some point this weekend.
Statements like that one don't help anyone. So many people are making this even more painful for C&C, when they're claiming to offer support.

Saucery · 21/07/2017 19:01

'Makes for sad reading' is quite adversarial I have to say. I would have hoped just for facts, not emotive statements like that.

oakleaffy · 21/07/2017 19:01

THIS on CA 3 hrs ago...
Hi was just wondering if the blue wrist bands have come in yet? Only reason I'm asking is because myself and my husband want to be able to wear them so people can ask what they are for and we can raise awareness for Charlie.

What the heck? I think nearly everyone in UK knows about CG ..haven't yet met someone who has not heard, even if they refer to him as the ''Ill baby in the news''
So why is someone even bothering about asking for s*dding wristbands..fiddling while Rome burns again.

Place marking

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 21/07/2017 19:04

stitch, how dare they indeed.
And I saw posts on CA earlier making it clear that some of them just don't get it. Some of them claiming that the mention of other families has been made to silence them and 'take away free speech'.
Zero awareness and empathy.

oakleaffy · 21/07/2017 19:05

That bl**dy Pastor... only out for fame n' gain.
What possible good could a self serving bloke like that do?Cue pics of him ''Praying'' ostentatiously in the press.

Where are CY'sand CG's mums?
All they need at this time is close family, not some ligger.

Stitch and gin - this CA comment

"Meanwhile... Please no peaceful protests outside of GOSH in case parents of other patients begin to question their own care..."

id recommen reporting threats straight to the police not fb-they wont do anything

stitchglitched · 21/07/2017 19:13

'Zero awareness and empathy'

Yep. I think that has also been demonstrated in the disgusting way other bereaved parents on that page have been treated, and the deletion of fund raising pages for any other poorly children. They are only interested in their cause celebre.

I completely agree.

I find their conspiracy theories and absolute refusal to believe that Charlie is seriously unwell very, very strange.

oakleaffy · 21/07/2017 19:13

Maryz.. Crosspost..we clearly have the same opinion of that beastly fame hungry ''pasta.''

Have you noticed how CA almost compete to see who ''loves Charlie the most''...If they paid £4:99 for a bloody keyring then they will be raising hell if they don't receive it.

Have heard a new phrase[?] these past couple of weeks in regards of CG case..''virtue signalling

It was Princess Diana that kicked off 'public mourning'..before her death, such things were unknown.

HIV /AIDS when it first came on the scene had it's novel red ribbon..a public display of support..nowadays there are pink ribbons for breast cancer, Blue for autism awareness.. no harm in these, but to complain when they aren't available is a bit much when the family is preoccupied.

som ridiculous commnts to a doctor of all people

11122aa · 21/07/2017 19:28

Yes the Police will be needed for the day it is switched off. To protect people outside and also inside. Plus the media will probably camp outside as well.

zeezeek · 21/07/2017 19:32

If I'm being bitchy (and I'm certainly feeling that way at the moment) I'd say that they are shit scared he's going to die soon and want the wristbands to show off about how fucking empathetic and nice they are.

CotswoldStrife · 21/07/2017 19:35

I've had a MRI brain scan with contrast dye, it can be used to show up (small blood vessels in my case) more effectively.

Is this the only MRI scan that has been done recently, or is this a second one? Not sure if they did one earlier this week or last weekend for Dr Hirano's visit?

Trampire · 21/07/2017 19:37

This is going to make me sound really sad for counting, but CA have lost about 35 members since this morning.

I find that interesting. Maybe some of the people were a bit 'meh' about it all anyway, or maybe some are being put off?

My guess is they are members who have been deleted for daring to say something that wasn't in keeping with the CA Ethos....
