This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

I'm confused about them sounding like they're still in court.

Kickhiminthenuts · 21/07/2017 15:54

Just seen the news that the scan "is sad reading"

Poor little boy.

I hope the closing of social media is down to acceptance.

11122aa · 21/07/2017 15:55

They are stlll in court I Think.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 21/07/2017 15:55

Just seen that on BBC breaking news.
Poor Charlie.

11122aa · 21/07/2017 15:56

Chris has just called Gosh evil before storming out. They are no where near acceptance.

RitaMills · 21/07/2017 15:57

Even if they wanted to I think they will feel they can't back down, with the religious, pro life and CA groups they are pretty much backed into a corner. I'd hope there wouldn't be a backlash against them but from reading twitter and FB there is absolutely no reasoning with these people, CA might thaw but the other two I doubt very much and after the fight they put up I think being branded as 'murderers' would break them.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 21/07/2017 15:58

Am I missing something? I had no idea they were still in court.
Do I need to find JR's tweets or is there another link please?

LapinR0se · 21/07/2017 15:59

I thought court adjourned for the day earlier after a very short hearing??

11122aa · 21/07/2017 15:59

Rosenberg is not in court this afternoon I don't think.

RitaMills · 21/07/2017 16:00

He's not tweeting at the moment gin.

11122aa · 21/07/2017 16:00

The pro lifers will turn on the Parents if they ever accept it.

Thanks everyone, I've had JR tweets on my feed this afternoon, just a couple, they weren't about Charlie so I wondered what was going on.

MirandaWest · 21/07/2017 16:11

The only thing about this seems to be Ian Woods tweets which are then being used by various news places.

Are they definitely in court this afternoon?

smilingmind · 21/07/2017 16:13

This was on CA.

I do think it's a bit harsh if parents hadn't been pre-warned about the scan results and the first they heard about it was when KG announced it makes for "sad reading". I think that it could have been handled better somehow.

LapinR0se · 21/07/2017 16:13

Is this image attaching?

This has just been posted on CA. It puts the "evil" quote into context. Such a heartbreaking thing to read.

Agree completely, as I think did the judge. In court speak, the word "unfortunate" is code for "for fuck's sake".

SargeantAngua · 21/07/2017 16:15

Reading the daily mail article I can sympathise with the parents - sounds like they were hit with a broadside hearing bad news from the MRI results for the first time in court. Not sure how else it could have been done but unfortunate...

TinselTwins · 21/07/2017 16:16

I'm confused, Connie argued that she wanted to see unabridged medical records. But now she's run out of court because the QC said something harsh/not positive about the MRI, and now it's all how can the QC be so unethical as to just blurt that out. NOW there should have been kid gloves after Connie earlier wanted full access to cold hard medical data?

I feel for her she's like an animal trapped in a cage and doesn't even know what angle to attack any more

Fancythat69 · 21/07/2017 16:17

Whats going on? Are they back in court?

11122aa · 21/07/2017 16:17

This will motivate the army and fuel the theories that GOSH hate the parents.

Carriemac · 21/07/2017 16:17

To be fair, the doctors have been telling them for months what the scan would show but they have been refusing to accept it.
