I sincerely hope victim blaming isnt going to creep into these threads like the ones in AIBU i have been reading.

tiger i linked in an article about Family Mosaic in one of the earlier threads (cant remember which one now) they are another one that dont listen to tenants. Is it any wonder tenants feel no trust when they are marginalized ignored belittled threatened with malicious legal action and then when something does happen like they predicted then they are victim blamed. And after all that the doubters and blamers scratch their heads and wonder why the residents cant just be patient and wait and trust in the system. Its Kafkesque.

tiger i posted some links involving Keepmoat Their rep isnt good either.

tigerbear · 20/06/2017 02:03

Helena, absolutely fight that Family Mosaic don't listen to their tenants, whether they are private, social or shared ownership, they couldn't give a toss. My former neighbours have spent years campaigning for transparency, apologies, SOMETHING to be done to make up for their mistakes, but no-one accepts any blame. There is a total lack of care or accountability.
The people in my old block are paying an independent advisor to make their own assessment of the block: god knows what they'll find.
In my mind, it's not an issue of what people are saying re Grenfell, that the poor or disadvantaged are not listened to regarding their complaints, its more a case of management companies and contractors not caring either way, regardless of whether you're poor or rich. I paid £250k for my flat, and 2 beds are now going for over £400k, plus £280 a month service charge, and for this, people are treated appallingly.

Here is the Family Mosaic article i linked in an earlier thread tiger.

Thanks Helena, the Guardian article is one I've read before. I'd love to see FM and Rydon fully investigate somehow. Their pompous, smug and arrogant faces at each resident's meeting was infuriating!

Oh FFS Have that council never heard of PTSD.

derxa · 20/06/2017 04:26

Such a good thread full of excellent links.

HappyAxolotyl · 20/06/2017 06:55

Does anyone know why little Isaac Shawo's name has disappeared from the list of named victims?
Thank you for this very informative thread, even though it makes horrifying reading. I sincerely hope that justice is done for all these poor people.

I've got a question about the numbers - if the 79 is the 5 identified and the rest missing and presumed then how will they know if the remains they do find are those that they thought were missing or actually other people? People who may not have been reported missing by anyone?

Will it therefore only be once they've completely finished the investigation that they'll have any idea really?

MrsWombat · 20/06/2017 07:46

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40336994 This article says 180 families have received money. Does that include families from other buildings who have been evacuated?

MrsWombat · 20/06/2017 07:51

I asked because I know there were only 120 flats in the tower. It would be interesting if they stated how many households from the tower had claimed money.

Badbadbunny · 20/06/2017 07:58

I'm concerned about sloppy drafting of regulations

The drafting of EU/UK laws and regulations is abysmal. I'm an accountant, so obviously a different profession, but our accountancy and tax laws/regulations are crazy and I assume there are similar anomalies in other areas too.

For example, there is no single authoritative definition of "a business". The word "business" is defined in different ways for different taxes. So you can be a "business" for one tax, but not qualify for business reliefs for a different tax. You also have the situation where HMRC webpages and guidance notes aren't in accordance with the actual legislation. You can look at two different "authoritative" sources and see glaring contradictions between them. It's the prime reason why there's so much scope for tax avoidance/evasion.

So, I can very easily imagine how there'd be confusion and anomalies between various laws and regulations relating to building materials.

Trouble is, that instead of better regulation, we have this current fight for less regulation and less red tape. So, it's not really the right fight. We should be getting rid of the useless regulation (i.e. some elements are several layers of regulations with new laws/regulations on top of old ones that are redundant but not repealed). We need BETTER regulation not more nor less of it.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 20/06/2017 08:34

The article about the missing is very sad. There were a family from 18th floor who are believed to have gone up to 23rd floor to escape the smoke. Sad

Grenfell victims are sleeping in cars and parks, says Kensington MP

Seems that there are lots of people who are not being looked after by the council or have all but given up on the council.

I missed the panorama special last night and for some reason (I guess cause it wasn't scheduled?) it's not showing on iPlayer. Anyone got any ideas if it's on YouTube or anything?

bambambini · 20/06/2017 10:28

I didn't realise that the FIre Brigade had been called and put the fridge fire out and were on site when the building erupted into flames.

BahHumbygge · 20/06/2017 10:28

Panorama on YT

Had it open in another window since last night. Don't know if I dare watch it :/

i'm interested to see if the warm weather meant people propped open fire doors.

You can get special door props for fire doors which automatically close the doors when an alarm goes off.
We had one on a kitchen door in an office - the chance of scalding yourself on hot tea while battling a self close fire door was greater than the risk of the kettle catching fire.
However you obviously need the alarm to be fitted and working for this to help.
