Christ why do you think people should be calm and not angry? The residents have apparently been campaigning about how fire safety in their block was ignored for years.

Honestly would you be calm in this situation? Because I would not. I was nearly crying on the tube reading about mothers throwing children out of windows to be caught by others. It is bloody horrendous.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 16/06/2017 19:24

The fireman on sky just now..thank you.

I am so sorry for the little boy who's brother had already died.

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2017 19:24

I'm not saying to be calm, I am saying people need to try and calm the situation and focus the anger.

Otherwise we will have violence which will not help the situation either.

Anger is a good thing. Its a right thing. But this is becoming dangerous.

MonkeylovesRobot · 16/06/2017 19:25

Bratsy If that was aimed at me you will see I said "I personal feel that at this point community leaders need to work (dare I say it) together to keep the calm tonight and avoid riots. I understand people are very angry, very emotional and very upset."

We don't need anymore tragedy right now, and we do not need anymore division between the communities. Riots are not a solution. They are likely to lead to more injuries, more division and more anger.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 16/06/2017 19:25

MonkeylovesRobot Everything you said is true. It's just there is so much emotion about among the survivors and relatives and other people in the area (not to mention the rest of the country) and that energy has to go somewhere. To stop riots breaking out, there needs to be outlets for that. The politicians should have been down there before now listening to people's anger and admitting they'd got things wrong.

With Teresa May's utter incompetence on top of silence from the council and KCTMO, it's probably too late. If she turned up now there WOULD be riots.

RhythmAndStealth · 16/06/2017 19:26

No I wouldn't want to be calm in this situation Brasty.

But I would be very aware of who had the most to gain if I, understandably, lost control of my feelings.

And that tactics like stonewalling, refusing to provide help or answers, mistimed statements that are hastily retracted, letters threatening legal action etc all things that are known to inflame anger in others.

James Brown did a live performance on national TV when Martin Luther King was shot- to prevent rioting.

Sky News‏*@SkyNews* 2h
Number of people missing and feared dead from the #GrenfellTower fire has risen to 70, according to Sky sources

This is also what Sky are saying.

EmilyBiscuit · 16/06/2017 19:28

Building regulations don't require older buildings to be brought up to current recommended guidance. They can meet 'all required standards' without meeting current building standards.

70 people rescued by London Fire Brigade?! Bloody hell they are amazing. I want to say a big thanks to the men and women who risk their lives every day to save other people from burning buildings up and down the country. We really appreciate everything you do.

RhythmAndStealth · 16/06/2017 19:28

Why do you think he did that? Whose side do you think he was on?

Whose lives did he want to save? Whose memory was he trying to safeguard?

DailyMail TM has been to one of the rest centres, she had to leave due to safety concerns. She was there an hour ago, and they started shouting "murderer" at her as a crowd surrounded her.

Agree, we need safer outlets for the emotion. I agree one hundred percent with this.

HelenaDove · 16/06/2017 19:30

. marking place to catch up. I had to go out. I did see on the news before i left home that people were gathering for a sit in in Kensington Town Hall.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 16/06/2017 19:30

MonkeylovesRobot Yep - too late. She should have been there days ago, along with many of her colleagues.

RhythmAndStealth · 16/06/2017 19:31

She did turn up Daily. She was barricaded into a church.

There was amazing footage on the BBC of how local people and community leaders averted the events that could have been easily predicted.

Top I just watched that fireman on Sky.
The firemen were amazing.
The emergency service personnel don't get paid enough for the wonderful work they do.

Is it true the new cladding on the tower is not used in US , Germany or Ireland?

brasty · 16/06/2017 19:31

Fair point, I don't want riots with more people hurt. Which is why Theresa May being down there would make a difference. People do need to express their anger

RhythmAndStealth · 16/06/2017 19:32

monkey so people aren't allowed to shout at the PM now? We live in a democracy not a police state ffs.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 19:33

Can read two placards "defy Tory rule" and "bring down the government". Someone should tell them this isn't political...

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2017 19:35

I am seeing open calls for riots on twitter tonight.

As others say, who does that help?

Protests fine. Great even.
So long they stay that way and doesn't spill into more.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 19:35

Pointless conducting a fire drill since the advice was to stay put.

LineRunner · 16/06/2017 19:37

David Gauke just now on Channel 4 certainly wouldn't have helped matters. Dear God. No assurances.

WellThisIsShit · 16/06/2017 19:37

I'm sorry this has probably been covered earlier, I've had personal bad news to top of a week where hell has come to earth.

Anyway, I just saw that there have been 1,100 complaints about that cruel and inappropriate article about the man packing before knocking on neughbours doors.

It was a real blow to see that yesterday, the merciless scavenging of anything that might make a good headline.

I'm so glad others felt the same.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 16/06/2017 19:37

Think it through Daily.

What part of my post at 19:25:40 was ill thought through?
