Trump's "Muslim ban"

I can't believe he's actually done it, these changes are happening so fast, even green card holders are not allowed to reenter the country if they leave.

But muslims from Saudi Arabia are fine? Hmm

He has been in the job a week.

Dear god it takes me that long in a new job to make sure I know where the loos are and what the process is to murder new stationery.

So how could he have gathered all the info, spoken to the experts and discussed with a specially formed committee to form a plan? What does he know that everyone else who has been working in the civil service not know?

ageingrunner · 29/01/2017 12:46

I saw this on twitter Smile

Trump's "Muslim ban"
Lorelei76 · 29/01/2017 12:49

Original, immnot clear what you mean. Bush did the same exec order restricting funds for international orgs and abortion etc.

There's a whole bunch of stuff they can put through and in this case he has a load of Republicans to back him. Stopping him via courts, if it happens, will take forever. He's probably got minions digging shallow graves already, I'm not kidding.

I knew he was Hitler in another form but what I didn't realise was that Republicans would be okay with it. It seems there is no voice to say, dude, calm down.

Hearing a couple on the news talking about their holiday - that's the least of their problems surely?

originalmavis · 29/01/2017 12:53

I mean it's a very quick and decisive edict. One week in a job and you are able to implement plans that are so huge and confusing/seemingly not well thought out?

tribpot · 29/01/2017 12:57

Farah has released a statement - I think his family are in the US and he's outside it.

mavis, presidential candidates start the process of formulating policies and so on even before the election, so that they don't turn up on day 1 and go 'hmm, WTF do we do now?'. So in that sense Trump (and Bannon, who is now a member of the National Security Council whilst the Joint Chiefs of Staff have been removed) have had a while to come up with this lunacy. On the other hand, given the massive confusion it's also possible Trump made this up on the spur of the moment in the week.

originalmavis · 29/01/2017 12:58

It seems like everything he does is just a whim.

Chippednailvarnishing · 29/01/2017 13:21

I hope the US are barred from hosting international sports events.

TheElementsSong · 29/01/2017 13:27

I hope the US are barred from hosting international sports events.

They'll just call their events the World Series anyway Grin

areyoubeingserviced · 29/01/2017 14:02

Trump is doing this to appease his supporters.
He is aware that what he is doing is unconstitutional and will probably fail.
However, he can tell his supporters that he tried. Trump does not care about the logic of this order, it's all about him and his own interests which is shown by the fact that he has not banned those from Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, as he has business interests in these countries.
Truly vile man

MercyMyJewels · 29/01/2017 14:03

A judge has blocked the Executive Order. Trump will implode!

NYPD stopped the Skytrain and the Governor ordered it back on

Civil war looming in NYC

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left

Have you read some of those comments on Mo Farah's Facebook page? It's bloody horrible.

areyoubeingserviced · 29/01/2017 14:08

Love that demented

Eatingcheeseontoast · 29/01/2017 14:14

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928. Petition to stop trump coming on state visit.

It now has enough signatures to get it debated...

DeviTheGaelet · 29/01/2017 14:15

Exactly demented
When I hear trump supporters and brexiteers telling people to shut up because they lost, that poem always comes to mind

MercyMyJewels · 29/01/2017 14:18

Taxi drivers at JFK airport going on strike in support of those affected by the #muslimban

And lawyers are offering free legal services

There are good people out there

ExplodedCloud · 29/01/2017 14:24

I had no idea that the number of signatories on a petition actually refreshed at such a short interval on that site!

TheMysteriousJackelope · 29/01/2017 14:26

This is all about Trump fulfilling a ridiculous campaign promise while upsetting as few countries as possible that he has business links with, or that have strong business ties to the US.

The 9/11 terrorists came from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Lebanon. None of those countries are on the list. Trump's companies have business in all those countries. Saudi Arabians fund ISIS FGS.

Refugees have already gone through a 24 month vetting process. You think they are going to be more thoroughly vetted by Border Patrol agents at an airport as they actually enter the country?

This will make things more dangerous for the US military. Locals will refuse to act as interpreters or go-betweens as they know when the going gets tough they'll be left to deal with murder attempts against them and their families on their own.

I hope many of you have noticed the protests that have started at Chicago O'Hare, LAX, JFK. Many people in the US are also disgusted by this.

Only 120 Days? You try telling a wife waiting for her husband to join her in Texas that it's OK, he only has to spend 120 days in a country where at least three attempts have been made on his life.

CoolCarrie · 29/01/2017 14:30

The USA is only the land of the free, when it suits them. If you are a WASP then you will be just fine and dandy. The US soldiers who fought and died in WW 2 must be rolling in the graves now. This isn't what they fought for, freedom for all.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 29/01/2017 15:05

CoolCarrie This isn't 'suiting' a lot of people in the US. There have been protests at major airports across the country. Even Orrin Hatch has spoken out against it.

Lorelei76 · 29/01/2017 15:32

Original Mavis, it's not a whim. He said all along he would do this. People voted for it. Why would you think it's a whim?

DalekBred · 29/01/2017 15:42

This (UK)is a parliamentary democracy, thank goodness

yes, judging by the romoaners attitudes, thank goodness for democracy eh?. look it up in the dictionary.

as for Trump, wether I agree or not with what he's doing, I see where Farage was coming from this morning.
in his interview.

But, its NOT fair on genuine refugees, but terrorists have blantantly said they are smuggling themselves into other countries within the refugee groups. plus economic migrants claiming asylum and lying about why.

its difficult to sort the wheat from the chaffe, granted, but no country feels safe any more and BTW why aren't the Muslim community speaking up? why aren't the Muslim community standing up and sorting out the terrorist threats?

and why dint all these womens marchs rally about FGM , slavery, and cultures that treat women like shit.?

PenguinRoar · 29/01/2017 15:43

Just catching up with the news channels and various US senators and elected officials are out protesting at the airports too.

Listened to a US phone in, and a good two thirds were appalled. Those in favour were rattling off all sorts of nonsense about terrorists from 9/11 (not from any banned country) and protectionism about US jobs. Not at all convinced there is any argument that people from the selected countries are anywhere near the top of immigrating countries for employment.

Trump's pointless posturing about murdered Christians in these countries is bizarre... he obviously gives not a gig for any one that he can't make money from.

DeviTheGaelet · 29/01/2017 17:49

BTW why aren't the Muslim community speaking up? why aren't the Muslim community standing up and sorting out the terrorist threats?
They are. Just it's not clickbaity enough for the current media so you don't get to read about it

and why dint all these womens marchs rally about FGM , slavery, and cultures that treat women like shit.? Ditto. And also just because other places have it worse doesn't make it ok that a self admitted sex offender has moved into the white house and immediately started making changes that will adversely affect women globally, not just in the US

TheMysteriousJackelope · 29/01/2017 18:27

Why aren't the Muslim Community standing up?

As Devi pointed out, they are. Meanwhile, why aren't the 'Christian community standing up to protest Dylann Roof, and the zealot who shot up the abortion clinic etc

*Why didn't the women's march rally about FGM?"
If you had gone to a Women's March with a sign saying 'Ban FGM worldwide' then there would have been someone there marching for FGM. You sat at home, you don't get to complain about it. I marched for access to good quality public education for all in the US. Other women on the march I attended marched for Justice for All, and equal opportunities for all. It wasn't just pussy hats and Trump grabbing us by the meow. It was about a host of issues that concern women.
