I hadn't actually thought that Nigel Farage could go lower in my estimation. But have to admit I was wrong...

Add lackeys as well.

claig · 27/08/2016 22:01

Absolutely, Swedish, that is a vital part of the mix.

Showmethewaytogohome · 27/08/2016 22:08

Thanks swedish the list is growing in length but not depth

I think I need to add bigley losers to mine

JudyCoolibar · 28/08/2016 12:01

'And that is fine he accepted such information and went public with it without seeing any evidence at all '

That is Trump. He shoots from the hip. That is his style, that is why he is so popular and is so unlike a "career politician".

I think people have realised that about Trump - that he sPekEs his bRaNes and hopes to find some evidence afterwards, and then pretends it didn't happen when he can't find the evidence because it was all bollocks in the first place. That is also why, despite frantic efforts, he is only popular amongst very right wing white people and has historically low approval figures amongst black people and women.

Lweji · 28/08/2016 12:07

There's a reason most career politicians don't shoot from the hip.

Politicians who shoot from the hip rarely win elections and aren't able to build a career.
That's not because of the Establishment. It's because they don't engage their brains and ultimately people can see through them.

You can fool all people for a short time, or some people all the time, but not all people all the time. (something like that)

JudyCoolibar · 28/08/2016 13:50

No sensible voter wants someone in charge who shoots from the hip. That's the kind of idiot who gets into unnecessary wars or takes snap knee-jerk decisions that ruin the economy and destroy human rights.

Kaija · 28/08/2016 14:17

Despite a squillion (and counting) occurrences of the word "Establishment" on this thread, I'm still no closer to understanding what it is supposed to signify.

Does anyone know?

claig · 28/08/2016 14:32

Left wing guru, Owen Jones, is a good place to start to understand what the Establishment is. He wrote a book about it

"The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It by Owen Jones – review

'Who you know' still matters, but more important now is what you believe, argues this wide-ranging investigation of British elites"

Lweji · 28/08/2016 14:34

Kaija

Try squillion threads. Grin

Showmethewaytogohome · 28/08/2016 14:36

Not sure about Owen Jones as a Left wing guru. I'm showing my age but when I as younger this was the 'establishment' Grin

Lackey? Stooge? Puppet? This is not the language of political discourse in the 21st century, at least outside North Korea and threads on Mumsnet with Claig aboard - which is why I am increasingly convinced she is an artificial intelligence experiment, programmed with vocabulary from old episodes of Citizen Smith and the Morning Star, and instructed to support political extremists of all sorts. However, I will say that whoever or whatever she is, she seems a decent sort with a sense of humour and never stoops to personal attacks, so I do feel a bit bad about thinking as I do.

claig · 28/08/2016 18:05

'Lackey? Stooge? Puppet? This is not the language of political discourse in the 21st century'

Have you read Trump's twitter feed? The world has changed. Even many Momentum supporters probably tweet similar things.

claig · 28/08/2016 18:10

'Have you read Trump's twitter feed? '

That's why he is so popular. He says what the people think. Grin

"Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

I turned down a meeting with Charles and David Koch. Much better for them to meet with the puppets of politics, they will do much better!"

That is the next President of the United States and leader of the Free World. Rock'n'roll, he's with the people. Grin

claig · 28/08/2016 18:13

"Donald J. Trump
‏@realDonaldTrump

The special interests and people who control our politicians (puppets) are spending $25 million on misleading and fraudulent T.V. ads on me."

Does it get any better than that? At last a politician that speaks the language of the people.

TheForeignOffice · 28/08/2016 18:22

Hello claig, I'm curious as to where and how you think Theresa May fits in with regard to Farage, Brexit, the voice of the people and the collective so-called Establishment. Genuine question.

claig · 28/08/2016 18:29

I like Theresa May, I think she is doing a brilliant job. She has shocked the Frecnh and Chinese over the nuclear plant and that took real nerve and guts. She ruthlessly removed people she didn't like from the Cabinet. She took a great risk and showed courage in appointing Boris. She keeps a low profile unlike Cameron and Blair and doesn't appear on TV everyday to lecture the public about how many eggs they can eat or how much alcohol they can drink etc. She is serious, tough and courageous.

Lots of people are saying she may let the people down over Brexit, but I don't think she will. She believes in democracy and the will of the British peopel and has said that Brexit does not require a vote in Parliament by which means the stooges could cancel the public's will.

I initially preferred Leadsom to May because the Establishment was supporting May and I thought that that might mean that she would let the people down over Brexit. But the opposite is true. May is amazing and courageous and has far more courage than Leadsom and I am glad she is PM. I think she has the nerve to achieve great things for the country.

Showmethewaytogohome · 28/08/2016 18:30

I can almost guarentee TM is part of the 'establishment'and the 'elite'

As for old Trumpy re the Koch brothers - they have made it very very clear they wouldn't support him and are thinking about the down ballot funding only

And misleading ads on trump - that has made me laugh! He misleads himself. Every day

claig · 28/08/2016 18:35

"As she approaches her 50th day in No 10 on Tuesday, Theresa May is fast becoming the ‘submarine Prime Minister’.

The moment she took power on July 11, her aides said she despised what one described as the ‘sound-bite-a-day’ style of ‘media-obsessed David Cameron’.

Mrs May would be more like old-style British Prime Ministers, whose public pronouncements were few and far between, they said.

It doesn't get much better than that (apart from maybe Trump).

Showmethewaytogohome · 28/08/2016 20:41

Errmmm I think Elizabeth I was most defiantly part of the establishment! You can't get any more establishment that Royal families - certainly not of the people

Kaija · 28/08/2016 22:00

Thanks for that link, claig - very enlightening. So The Establishment are those wealthy and powerful people who want a small state and pared down welfare provision.

You may have got a bit confused about Farage and Trump if you think this is what they are they are opposing.

Lweji · 28/08/2016 22:06

You're wrong. Trump will take care of the poor. In particular black people.

Maybe. If he doesn't change his mind in the next five minutes.

And unless he doesn't win, in which case he'll stop talking to them.

claig · 28/08/2016 22:11

'Thanks for that link, claig - very enlightening. So The Establishment are those wealthy and powerful people who want a small state and pared down welfare provision. '

That is Owen Jones's opinion of what it is, but Owen Jones doesn't really understand it becuse he essentially thinks it is just conservatives, whereas Blair and Brown are also part of the Establishment at a lower level and are not for a small state. Owen Jones doesn't understand that manmade climate change is the Establishment too. Owen Jones doesn't understand that the elites are far more scared of a Trump victory than a Corbyn or Sanders one, because he doesn't really understand what the Establishment's goals are and why Trump is the opposite of them.
