Ah I haven't seen that need (though I'm unsurprised - I'm wondering if they'll claim anything just to build up on the 'terror')

The news has been too busy making people feeling sorry for covering the bloke who has to let the police know when he has sex Hmm

RhodaBull · 19/07/2016 10:43

If as people say this young man and others like him have been raised on hate and been exposed to and trained in gun use since a very young age, then surely it is madness that once they step into the West they are considered "children".

Your average 17-year-old male from the West is still rather immature and it is foolhardy to fail to acknowledge that 17-year-olds from other cultures may be very different.

Dsis did supply work in a school and was teaching 15/16-year-olds, some of whom were asylum seeker boys. Dsis said they were clearly in their 20s and were constantly making lewd gestures to the female pupils and to her. When she made a safeguarding complaint to the Head he said he could do nothing as their age could not be proved.

If they were pupils at the school he could certainly do something about the lewd gestures.

An idiot like that will make life harder for all the other refugees who are just trying to get a better life in Europe.

And for everyone else, really.

He and his axe have just made the world a bit shittier for everyone.

They're saying that isn't terrorism related. I'll bet paper money (to nick a phrase from upthread) that's a DV type murder-suicide.

He's been let down by a lot of grown ups, foreign policies etc

Have you seen pictures of Kabul from the 60's to now?

That not foreign policy that's the Taliban Confused That's religious extremism. Islamic Extremism to be precise. He was offered sanctuary in a western "safe" country, where he could live in PEACE AND SAFETY.

A precious state of affairs he has robbed those train passengers of. I don't doubt he is tramatised, perhaps his victims were too?

Inkanta · 19/07/2016 11:48

'It's fairly safe to assume that he's been through trauma, he's separated from his family. I have sympathy for him. He's been let down by a lot of grown ups, foreign policies etc. Poor kid. He's dead now, it's a tragedy.'

Shock Confused
AllTheMadmen · 19/07/2016 11:56

Have you never seen images of child soldiers in Afghanistan, 5year olds with guns FFS! This may well be how this young man was raised, he may have been only ever taught to hate, he really may not know anything different
On the basis of that post, I wonder if Merkel acted in the best interests of the German people by her open invite to the refugees.

If they are this much of a threat, surely proper centers need to be set up, to process them with proper MH support and counselors?
Or is it OK to allow millions of migrants from many countries ad hoc into Germany and EUROPE.

Inkanta · 19/07/2016 12:03

'On the basis of that post, I wonder if Merkel acted in the best interests of the German people by her open invite to the refugees.'

She sure didn't.

Germany is basically the EU so thank God we're coming out.

Common sense has prevailed.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 19/07/2016 12:04

"proper centers need to be set up, to process them with proper MH support and counselor"

Sounds fab, I'm sure the countries are all fighting over who gets to pay for it :(

SemiNormal · 19/07/2016 12:09

- personally no, I do not think it's 'OK' and this is part of the reason. We cannot afford to try and change the mindset of so many people, and I am not saying ALL have that mindset but a lot of them do and I don't think it does any good to deny that. Whilst I feel much empathy for this young man I think we, as a country, have a duty to protect the citizens we do have, the refugees we accept (IMO) should be limited to the amount we can properly assess and provide ongoing mental health care to. (Although as someone who suffers from mental health problems I think that number would be a big fat 0 judgung from the 'care' I've had (or not had).

AllTheMadmen · 19/07/2016 12:09

Well they are going to pay one way or another arn't they?

You either help them through trauma centers - assessment and give them as much help as you can. Make sure they are safe.

or you dont give them refuge

Or you run the risk of allowing traumatized young men into your country who may harm your citizens. ( In no small numbers)

peachpudding · 19/07/2016 13:25

And this is why we shouldn't be letting unaccompanied minors into our country from France or Germany.

Multiculturalism has failed, it doesn't work.

I wonder if he was really 17? I honestly question the wisdom of letting large numbers of young men and male youths into a country, and I say this as a generally very liberal person. I'd much rather they focused on women, children, family groups and the elderly.
Because every time there is an incident, this, or the sexual assaults that are occurring, it makes it that much harder for everyone. Innocent, law-abiding refugees get attacked, people's hearts harden and society lurches ever further to the right.

PartiallyAnaesthetized · 19/07/2016 14:50

Another stabbing, mother and children

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/19/man-stabs-french-woman-and-her-three-daughters-for-being-scantil/

Are we supposed to have sympathy for this attempted murderer also? Given he's Muslim? Didn't see any sympathy for Jo Cox's killer on MN even though it was known from very early on he had serious MH issues. No, just cries of far right racist. Why are so many people in denial of the fact that many who follow Islam HATE us infidels, particularly western women. This is what happens when you invite large numbers of men people with very differing views from our own into a western liberal society. I sadly expect we'll soon be reading similar reports on a daily basis and our western liberal society, and it's downfall, will be something our grandkids get taught about in history lessons.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 19/07/2016 14:57

Partial, I think the difference is that people are putting across the other point to general reporting. So msm says mh issues, we talk about terrorism vs msm says terrorism, we discuss mh. I don't think anyone anywhere has said that solely the factor they are talking about was responsible

lovemyretsis · 19/07/2016 15:06

i just had to double check my URL bar to see if i hadn't accidentally landed on the daily mail page.

And I have no sympathy for the Afghan boy. People are fighting for their lives with life-changing injuries. All my sympathy is for them.

emilybohemia · 19/07/2016 15:17

Lovely, mumsnet has been like this for quite some time sadly. A lot of BNP Ste posts around.

lovemyretsis · 19/07/2016 15:23

Why is this thread about having sympathy for the family versus having sympathy for the boy? What nonsense.

Can't people feel devastated, angry and worried about the axe attack in Germany as well as consider the wider socio political context in which all this is happening?

I read a tweet last night that said

Je suis sick of this shit.
