And now Germany - an axeman has attacked people on a train.

We, as one of the most prosperous nations in the world with one of the highest standards of living and GDP

^^ Is this why we give highest aid to camps near Syria, or second highest to US?

What are other countries doing?

WidowWadman · 25/07/2016 18:07

Don'tpokememon is Katie Hopkins and I claim my £5

Dontpokememon · 25/07/2016 18:11

Bad luck - hand over the fiver. Actually, I'll put it towards a bet that RedToothBrush is Jeremy Corbyn.

WeMustSurelyBeLearning · 25/07/2016 18:22

"tackle terrorism by embracing those who come and giving them a stake in the future that they want to be part of, and feel they therefore have an incentive to contribute not destroy."

What do you call European countries taking in refugees and providing them with housing, money, language classes, job training etc if not "embracing" them? Sorry but they are given every incentive to be part of the future, and most do want that. Despite all this a sizeable minority of them still want to bring about the destruction of the societies that have really been quite generous to them. embracing these people has done fuck all to tackle terrorism. What else do you suggest?

Presumably your tolerance of terrorist attacks only applies when the victims aren't you or anyone who isn't you part of your family/friends

www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article13725571/181-Todesopfer-durch-rechte-Gewalt-in-Deutschland.html

According to the justice ministry Neo-nazies killed 181 people since 1990 in Germany. Evidence suggests strongly that right-wing hate crime is currently the greatest politically motivated threat for security in Germany.

To put things into perspective.

BillSykesDog · 25/07/2016 20:06

The first thing that article says is that the official figures are much lower (47 deaths). And clearly these figures are reached by more partisan organisations with less rigours a methods and a lower burden of proof plus a clear agenda.

It's not a reliable figure or worthwhile serious consideration.

user1469379762 · 25/07/2016 20:09

Oh Billy. Just 47 then? If you read the article it talks about recognising the right-wing political motivation behind many of these events. Look who is minimising now Smile.

Woodhill · 25/07/2016 20:10

Also deflecting on what is happening at the moment in Germany

user1469379762 · 25/07/2016 20:20

The suspected figure is actually much higher than 181 according to the article. Which is btw from a conservative News source.

Nope, not deflecting at all. The only reason I am posting on this thread is because of the incredibly right-wing shit that is being said here. It's not a debate but hysterical fear mongering bigoted and frankly pathetic. I don't appreciate Islamist terrorism more than your next person but flipping out about Muslims in Europe isn't going to be terribly helpful.

WidowWadman · 25/07/2016 20:31

Reluctance to investigate right wing motives is a key reason why the NSU got away with murder for such a long time.

Inkanta · 25/07/2016 20:32

Anyway this is the latest on Germany -

'The Syrian man who blew himself up in Ansbach, Germany, on Sunday made a video pledging allegiance to the leader of so-called Islamic State, Bavaria's interior minister says.
Joachim Hermann said two phones, multiple SIM cards and a laptop were found with the body of the 27-year-old asylum seeker or at his accommodation.
The man threatened a "revenge attack" on Germans in the video, he said.
IS has claimed it was behind the attack and the Syrian was an IS "soldier".
Fifteen people were injured, four of them seriously, when the man's explosive device went off close to a music festival in the small town, which is near Nuremberg.'

I would also like to know how the 15 victims are. Nothing much reported on that.

allthemadmen · 25/07/2016 20:34

I thought one of the reasons we needed to talk about this issue is the rise of the far right.

The countries of the EU are responding to the blending of their counties through open borders and now the migrant crisis with the increase of popularity of the Far Right. It seems to me, the people of these countries do not want mass immigration. But, migration has been going on for centuries.....its just now, there is too much of it.

BillSykesDog · 25/07/2016 20:36

47 over 30 years. Or 1.5 per year. Not really hysteria levels. The newspaper may be a conservative news source, but they are reporting on a report from left wing organisations which appears to be very biased.

Some of the attacks listed appear to have been committed against Germans, not migrants or people with migrant backgrounds and are just listed as right wing because of the clothing choices of the attackers.

BillSykesDog · 25/07/2016 20:37

So if I put on a burka and go out and kill a Yorkshireman that must be an Islamist killing right?

user1469379762 · 26/07/2016 09:26

3 refugees save pensioner's life when she fell onto the railway tracks. Scary Muslims indeed!

pop it into google translate if you want.

Bill don't be obstinate. NEo-Nazis don't just kills foreigners but the homeless, disabled, people who appear lefty, gays etc. The extreme right-wing is full of hate and inferior complex. The worst kind of small minded people.

BillSykesDog · 26/07/2016 09:34

Where as Islamists only kill women, gays, apostates, people on nights out, people who don't believe the same as them, different sects, 'witches', 'sorcerers', infidels etc, etc..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/07/2016 09:37

I think you'll find the point was Bill that you can't say the attacks weren't far right just because the victims were right. But you knew that.

BakewellSliceAgain · 26/07/2016 10:05

Where I live we have thug crime: they don't define as neo Nazis but they will beat up people after a nights drinking , stabbings at night are not unknown and I recall our local homeless man being badly beaten by thugs on their night out.

I worry for my teenager as he goes out and about, especially to bigger towns for concerts.

I have no call to think however that I may be attacked with an axe on a local train line or walking the dog near the train line. Nor that an infatuated workmate may decide I have offended him and wreak revenge with a 12 inch kebab knife and hospitalise 5 others.

I don't expect my son's music festival to be targeted by a bomber.

Am I unreasonable?

user1469379762 · 26/07/2016 10:20

Where am i saying that Islamists are cute kittens? I am not interested in Islamist extremists, to me they are fucked up, inhumane and backward, pursuing a violent agenda. Not much I can do about right now other than not letting their agenda of terror influence me, my activities and how I view my fellow citizens, whatever their colour or creed, e.g not participate in their pathetic, divisive strategy. If Islamists were posting bigoted shit on a forum I happened to be on, i'd pull them up on it sharpish, but so far I haven't seen any Islamist threads on MN.

Listen to yourselves, minimising Neo-Nazi killings in Germany whilst accusing everyone who isn't Muslim bashing and hand-wringngly moaning what the Europe has come to as minimising Islamist violence. Hypocritical.

You have your world view and it is full of hate and fear in regards to people who are not exactly like you. I agree with Fanjo that a lot of posts on here come across as looking for justification of your hatred with any new atrocity that is committed.

If we are talking ISIS, then you Bill, pokemon et al are reacting exactly in the way these terrorists would want. You are falling prey to their propaganda of terror. So counterproductive. I'll leave it there as you are not debating but falling prey to confirmation bias. It is your choice to live your life in fear, tut tut.

BakewellSliceAgain · 26/07/2016 10:24

Cute kittens?
I won't engage with your nonsense.

Turn on the news. Normandy. I have lived there, times have changed.

iPost · 26/07/2016 10:32

Oh shit. Normandy.

Preist beheaded in his church.

I'm in Italy, Lega Nord stronghold. I'm fucking scared now.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/07/2016 10:37

Oh god, not again Angry

iPost · 26/07/2016 10:38

No idea who this channel is. I hope they have ducked up and the headline is wrong

BakewellSliceAgain · 26/07/2016 10:40

I am not scared. I just think it is important not to be brainwashed into the current orthodoxy of government and media such as the bbc that the far right being the problem facing us.

If we are concerned at changes in our society we are painted as fools led by our innate dislike of Muslims causing confirmation bias.

I have and will continue to have Muslim friends. I also can distinguish between a terrorist/criminal and a non criminal. But thanks for the reprogramming posts user. Maybe I'll get with the official line if I follow all your links and use Google translate. How good of you to tell us monolingual plebs how it's done..

shins · 26/07/2016 10:43

I love the way people always seem to know "what terrorists want" better than the terrorists themselves. The arrogance is stunning. Why don't you ask them, they're quite upfront about it.
