And now Germany - an axeman has attacked people on a train.

Great point about access to psychiatric care. Seems to be a connecting thread in all of the recent attacks. I don't think Merkel can or should be blamed for these on basis of immigration policy, and the way how people almost seem to revel in these attacks happening because they think it proved them right is pretty disgusting.

shins · 25/07/2016 07:28

Yes it's just about psychiatric care. Nothing to see here, move along.....

Fanjo
"Obviously I would never accuse anyone of being glad deaths occurred. But some people have a position and will leap on this to justify it"

This in a nutshell.

Pokemon you seem to be reading in between the lines and interpreting my posts from a rather narrow viewpoint. I suggested 'responsible media', you make out that i proposed a left-wing media, totalitarian state and censorship. That's completely exaggerated, and importantly, not factual. Responsible journalism is one cornerstone of a modern democracy. There will always be a story telling aspect to journalism, left, right or in middle of the political spectrum. however look at what the DM, the Sun, the Express do, they feed stupidity and hate and people who are already uneducated and grumpy become ever more hatful because these 'news' sources stir fear of the 'other'.

I understand you don't like it when somebody covers up their face completely but most Muslim women actually don't. I hope you don't refuse to talk to them too?

Bavaria's interior minister said the suspect was a 27-year-old Syrian who was denied asylum. is the latest on this.

So that kind of turns the immigrant bashing argument on its head

Inkanta · 25/07/2016 10:10

Fango - it is hard to take you seriously.

EllyMayClampett · 25/07/2016 10:46

So that kind of turns the immigrant bashing argument on its head

How? My understanding is that there were a lot of people on continental Europe who did not want the million migrant march from Greece to Germany. Surely, this will reinforce their opinion.

Dontpokememon · 25/07/2016 10:58

Fanjo - your denial of facts is so desperate as to be laughable. The news reports (Guardian etc) clearly state that although his asylum application was technically turned down a year ago, he was allowed to stay anyway "because of the situation in Syria". Why else would he still be in Germany a year later?? His case proves the ineffectiveness of the German system, since even those it technically rejects are not sent back. Face the facts for once.

Dontpokememon · 25/07/2016 11:09

User146 - I rarely read the Sun, Mail, Express, etc, but the fact is that they are often the only ones that will even mention a story that the left-wing mainstream (my preferred paper is the Guardian (!), but not for its politics) considers too politically-incorrect to mention. If one only reads the Guardian, then this weeks' events in Germany will utterly dumbfound you, whereas exposure to (gasp!) right-wing reporting makes it all tragically predictable. I want a totally free press, because anything else will mean that uncomfortable facts are covered up, regardless of your rather patrician concerns over their influence on the public's mentality.

I also have no idea what the relevance of face-covering is to this issue.

Dontpokememon · 25/07/2016 11:18

User146 - this is where your left-wingery totally loses me, when you talk about "stirring fear of the other". Are you seriously telling me that fear is never a logical, reasonable response to a real threat from so-called "other" people, for example when it comes in the form of, oh, I don't know, a week of axe bludgeoning, stabbing, and suicide bombing of innocent members of the public?

Those are facts - even the Guardian reports them. But according to you it would be not quite comme il faut to feel terror at this terrorism?

iPost · 25/07/2016 11:23

The guy who went on a rampage on Friday was an Iranian, German born right-wing nut

I think we have to wait and see what happens about the arrested 16 year old Afghan before it can be claimed this was definitely a lone wolf, right wing politics motivated crime.

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/07/2016 11:29

Another mass shooting in Florida- teenagers. Women and children blown up in Baghdad, kids being shot in MacDonald's in Germany, where will it all end? This is not the world I want for my children. :(

I know these are not all IS, but they are all horrific and terribly sad. I feel very helpless right now.

allthemadmen · 25/07/2016 11:37

was it lone wolf right wing fanaticism or a boy who was bullied and obsessed with taking revenge, looking at all sort of literature to bolster his feelings. I would suggest the latter.

As for Germany allowing migrants in, its a couple of issues.

I believe the general public would have felt much happier if all the systems needed to safely process migrants were up and running BEFORE Merkel issued her decree.

Ie, safely check and process all migrants first, in a thorough and timely manner. This not only makes the citizens feel and indeed truly be more safe it also helps to quell fear of the migrants themselves as well as keep them safe too from hostile Germans but also from dangerous fellow migrants. In my mind, a win win win situation.

Exactly!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/07/2016 11:46

Inkanta it's hard to take people calling me Fango seriously too.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/07/2016 11:47

Am as scared of terrorists as anyone else.

I just don't translate it to the whole a Muslim or immigrant population as that would be racist.

Inkanta · 25/07/2016 11:52

'Inkanta it's hard to take people calling me Fango seriously too.'

Hey you chose the user name!

Why, if you want to engage in serious topics?

Dontpokememon · 25/07/2016 12:06

Fanjo - who the hell is talking about the "whole" migrant population? Most of the million recent migrants in Germany have been sleeping peacefully in their beds. But that million contains enough individuals to cause three mass casualty attacks in one week.

Do you have any constructive response to this reality, or is it just playing the ostrich and crying racist at people who just don't want to be murdered?

WidowWadman · 25/07/2016 12:12

I don't think you can call Friday's shooter who was born and grew up in Germany a recent migrant. Nor do I think does the migration status of the guy who killed is ex in Reutlingen have much relevance. But as you were

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/07/2016 12:15

i didnt choose that name actually

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 25/07/2016 12:17

"Am as scared of terrorists as anyone else."

"I just don't translate it to the whole a Muslim or immigrant population as that would be racist."

This. And...

"I don't think you can call Friday's shooter who was born and grew up in Germany a recent migrant. Nor do I think does the migration status of the guy who killed is ex in Reutlingen have much relevance. But as you were"

...this

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 25/07/2016 12:18

So really, we are only actually talking about the original axe attack.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/07/2016 12:18

Dontpoke I can't engage further with someone who holds the Mail up as a bastion of truth, sorry.

I don't want to be murdered as much as the next man. I just don't use it as an excuse to be bigoted.

i'm sure everyone murdered would rather not have met their attacker.

no need to shoehorn race into it if it wasn't a factor. Unless you are racist, of course.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/07/2016 12:22

nothing more to say really.
