This case is so sad. A young care worker has been killed and she was alone in the child refugee centre at night. I can't believe she was left alone to care for 11 refugees after all the recent concerns. There are various news articles about it on the web.

That is horrendous.

Are you certain it was metal, Lulu? I thought they were made out of some sort of stiff fabric (or leather, perhaps) and given a metallic finish in this case?

LuluJakey1 · 02/02/2016 20:19

These were definitely metal. I was right next to them for several minutes. They were fascinatingly horrible items- shaped differently to the one in the photo and tied with leather ties threaded through holes in the sides.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/02/2016 20:39

And you said there was a kind of metal plate actually in the mouth, Lulu?

Good grief ... Hmm Shock

LuluJakey1 · 02/02/2016 21:41

It wasn't in, it was against. It was against their mouth, covering it completely and up over their nose, shaped and flat- I am not describing it very well, bent but flat and pressed against them, tied on so it was quite firmly held in place. It covered nose and cheeks up to their eyes. The black headscarves covered their hair and went right down to the top of their eyes and were wrapped around covering their chins. It was quite intimidating as well as (I felt) repressive for them. The black robe they were wearing were floor lenth and full coverage. There were no men with them so they were choosing to wear them. It was in Knightsbridge.

I can visualise what you're describing Lulu. Those poor women. Brainwashed by a religion to be compelled to dress that way. And yet they'd probably claim they felt liberated from the gaze of men. They haven't drawn the quite obvious conclusion that the gaze of men isn't their fault. Because in their religion they're second-class and everything's their fault.

unlucky83 · 03/02/2016 23:15

Sooooooooo...if it was developed to keep sand out of your nose...surely the men must wear them too?

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 04/02/2016 19:04

Indeed unlucky, its all a bit 50 shades now isn't it. No different to walking round with a woman on a leach.

Perhaps liberated from having to choose which direction to walk in Confused
