I am finding this whole thing increasingly frightening. Those of us who want to discuss this with reason and an aim to find solutions seem to be stuck between the left wing deniers and the right wing xenophobes

I have noticed in asking friends to sign the petition the only ones who have outright refused are the left-leaning, anti-racist, apparently pro-equality ones. Those who have been positive about signing and sharing have included a lot like us who want to foster discussion and solutions through to some who have views far less tolerant.

sporting You are right, addressing this issue is important for young people of both sexes. That is a very good point

Turbinaria · 30/01/2016 12:22

lurcio thanks for directing me to this thread.

Just saw www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35444173 and it just reinforces the way countries ramp up the pressure(or are forced to) on populations even when problems like the Cologne attacks should be in the front of their minds - so the victims of the Cologne attacks take a lower priority.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 30/01/2016 12:50

The level of denial is quite mind-blowing. I read the first few posts of a thread the other day about a "possible Jihadist" being arrested whilst armed, close to EuroDisney.

The response? "Actually, it wasn't at the hotel, it was at xxx".

WTF? Arguing street names as opposed to "holy fuck, close call!".

There's a bloody elephant in the room - and it's not Dumbo at Eurodisney! Grin

I have been frightened on and off since the early 90s. I do not subscribe to any wing, only what I observe myself. I have been watching the erosion of women's free movement for 20 yrs due to the increase in numbers of various demographics and their hostile attitude towards females. I drive everywhere now for that very reason, and so do my women friends and our adult daughters.

Britt I fear the solution is not left of centre and it's going to be quite a leap for the moderate of us to get to there. :( One thing I am sure of though - is that shutting down debate and denial of facts will result in an increase of vigilante movements and it won't be pretty.

I too am scared - not by what any particular media outlet tells me (I am not governed by them) - but through observation and first-hand accounts from friends. I too eschew public transport and train/bus stations.

As for 1000+ women being "digitally penetrated against their will" every Saturday night in Birmingham... well, you'd have thought Labour MP for Birmingham Jess Phillips, acting alongside a full Labour council could have done something about that... especially as she seems aware of the "incidents".

Fishinminepuddle · 30/01/2016 13:22

This leaves teenage girls, who cannot drive the most vulnerable. What tools and strategies can we give them to keep safe?

DespicableBee · 30/01/2016 13:28

Rotherham had a labour council who ignored 1400 children being attacked

Chipstick10 · 30/01/2016 14:15

Don't get me started on Rotherham. Tom Watson the Tory pedophile catcher kept pretty quiet about that didn't he ! I remember jack straw speaking out about white women being seen as meat and he was shouted down as a racist

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 14:35

Despicable ….. Councils will always put politics before people. The Labour council in Rotherham knew what was going on but did not want to lose votes for the next time by investigating. Labour’s candidate for Major of London is the MP for Tooting. They chose Khan because he’s the one who can hold on to and attract more Labour voters.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 14:39

Fish – Unfortunately there are no good strategies to teach teenage girls – except to inculcate them at a much younger age to be vigilant. Look far ahead down the street you are on; can you see anyone on the opposite side who might be showing an interest in you? Look everwhere, in front, behind, opposite side of road. Be aware of the man who has just passed you because he may turn on his heel quick as a flash and get a hold of you. (Afterall most street robberies are done in this way). I remember being in Oxford St at age 20 with my friend and walking down Park Lane because it was such a splendid walk. No one bothered us menacingly except for passing lads who liked the look of us but never touched. We exchanged a few words of repartee and went on our way.

The name of the game is consequences regardless of where you come from, but none of our govts want to govern because their eye is always to the next General Election and being voted in again. That is why our immigration & deportation laws remain flabby.

BillSykesDog · 30/01/2016 14:45

Britt there is a trial going on in Rotherham at the moment which isn't being widely reported but hopefully will be after the verdict. What's coming out of that trial that at least one Labour politician was not just ignoring it, but actively involved in facilitating the cover up and helping the criminals get away with their crimes and possibly even the crimes themselves.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 14:53

I am not a Tory, never have been but Lord Lawson recently said that he came to the decision that Britain would be better off leaving the EU. "Britain has nothing to fear but fear itself."

conservativesforbritain.org/2016/01/12/lord-lawson-outlines-the-case-for-leaving-the-eu/

In a speech earlier this month he says:
"There are two main obstacles to rational discussion: The first is the political correctness which surrounds this issue. Political correctness is the great blight of our time. If you don’t think membership of the European Union is a good idea you are, as we say in France, mal vu. This great blight of political correctness is one reason why rational discussion is difficult. Another is vested interests."

GraceKellysLeftArm · 30/01/2016 15:04

BillSykes That truly illicits a visceral response in me. :(

Britt - indeed, "a few words of repartee" - men whose egos would've been barely bruised and carried on their day vs. men who are uninterested in whether you wish to be "taken" or not.

I got the overnight bus home from Newcastle to London when I was 21. It got into Victoria about 5am and I walked to Charing Cross. I did not fear for my life. Would I do that now? Fuck no.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 15:05

BillSykes ….. Yes, I think the brother of that Labour man partook of the abused girls. I think that once the scale of the abuse operation became known to people in the Council and Social Services who could have stopped it, they not only looked the other way I believe some individuals took a cut of the £. Remember - it’s Votes and Money. If you decide not to tell about which particular community is seducing and then hiring out the city’s young girls, and also influence the chief cop not to process reports, then imo money is somewhere in that mix.

BillSykesDog · 30/01/2016 15:56

No Britt, 3 of the accused (not convicted as yet) are his cousins and one his Uncle. The politician has also had his taxi licence revoked because of his links to CSE.

Incidentally here is a picture of the current Labour MP for Rotherham on the campaign trail with Sajid Bostan, another one of the accused, in late 2014.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 16:01

Thanks, Bill, not those guys. The man I am thinking of is white and he has not been charged.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 16:07

GraceKelly ...... I am a Londoner and I would not be on foot in CX now, though I have driven there for 6am to collect someone from the coach station.
There are now no-go zones. Ten years ago, in broad daylight, I took a wrong turn and had to ask for directions in E1 (buildings had been demolished and the area looked different to me). I was met with barely controlled hostility and looks of hate. Such a pity because that area used to be a friendly working class Jewish area.

Fishinminepuddle · 30/01/2016 16:16

The politician has also had his taxi licence revoked because of his links to CSE.

See, where we are there are no white British taxi drivers. None. Not Eastern European or any other foreigners in the taxi business either, just Muslim men from Pakistan / Bangladesh. I have always found this strange as i can't understand how the taxi business can be in the hands of a narrow group of people. Most speak very basic English. I demanded to be let out a few weeks ago after I told the driver where i wanted to go and did not get a reply. After i asked repeatedly if he knew where I wanted to go and did only get a grumpy glance back, I opened the door and got off. Not particularly reassuring.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 17:11

If you look at NY City the most recent immigrants tend to end up doing cabbing. And over the decades you can see one immigrant group replaced by another as the first one moves on to other types of work. I do not know why this is, but at least it shows they have an aptitude to learn the streets very quickly. East Europeans tend to go into construction and car repair.

BrittEkland · 30/01/2016 17:14

Fish …… The increasing danger over the years has caused me and my women friends to use the car if we are returning home in the evening, and this change of behaviour in women I think is spreading. So, men from hostile backgrounds are in a small way getting their wish. Fewer women travel by tube or train, and already they are seen about less. What transport remains: Licensed black taxi and car, because taking a minicab is very iffy now in London (too many rapes). I have not done so since the 1990s.

Rapist Razaq Assadullah, 31, forged driving licence and forged name.

As I pointed out to a number of people trying to minimise the PC cover up over Rotherham, there has recently been a damning government investigation into Rotherham Council. There was definitely a cover up for those reasons, and senior officials still refused to accept the findings of the inquiry as to the numbers of abused girls involved and there are fears that they were still letting it go on largely unchecked.
