I am shocked to see grown men claiming to be children . This isn't a refugee crisis it feels like infiltration.

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 29/01/2016 11:38

glen

I read this week " new law failing to protect thousands of girls from FGM"

"a law designed to protect 10,000 has saved fewer than 38 children"

"FGM mutilation has been illegal since 1985 but there has yet to be successful prosecutions. "

"migrant communities could not be allowed to police themselves" says Nimco Ali founder of Daughters of Eve

" I think we are giving too much leeway to people in certain communities to protect these girls when they are the ones profiting from FGM" she said.

From The Times.

Milkshake shambles indeed and they get a heads up on the questions and people help to prepare their ansas.

how can she be so ignorant on this matter?

Fishinminepuddle · 29/01/2016 11:50

"For a party that used to claim they stood up for women, they have become a total embarrassment." The misogyny that has crept up as a result of Europe's drive to be culturally inclusive and accommodate all communities must be challenged. Now or never. Up to recently it was indeed necessary to address and challenge everyday racism and xenophobia. But the pendulum has swung to far and now we must address and challenge everyday misogyny, sexism and violence against girls and women. The petition is a first step. More petitions may be needed, perhaps demanding national campaigns for women's right and autonomy, no matter what their religion or 'culture' is. Female teachers should not have to put up with such disgusting behaviour, it is a form of bullying and schools need to work closely with religious communities, community leaders and SS to send out the message that schools in Britain are misogyny free zones.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 29/01/2016 11:51

My mum taught in Stratford circa 1970. She tells of girls who'd "disappear" back "home" never to be seen again, or those who would come back physically "shy".

She tells me of a girl who broke her heart, apparently the most clever girl in the school who wanted to be a doctor - she confided in my mum that she thought she'd be married off and not come back to London.

She didn't come back.

Mum was very upset and raised the issue with the head. She was told that they were "not allowed" to discuss the issue.

kesstrel · 29/01/2016 11:51

Statesman Yes, the extent of the determined violence is horrific. I greatly admired the brave people who are prepared to act against it.

I also noted that the author describes tarrarush as '“punishment” for women who dare to cross certain boundaries.' I came across the article while doing a little research into the concept of "punishment rape" as a form of what anthropologists apparently call "normative rape" - that is, types of rape regarded as acceptable or even desirable. Apparently punishment rape is usually a group phenomenon, and is found in some tribal cultures, but not in others.

milkshake123 · 29/01/2016 11:51

AMouse - she's ignorant on a lot of matters - but very pleased with herself. I don't think she's very bright. She was so outclassed last night.

Did anyone read the article by Aaronovitch in yesterday's Times about how to stop the migrant crisis. I (hope) don't think it was a serious suggestion, more a provocative thought, but he basically said the EU should put a couple of warships in the Aegean Sea and shoot at the migrant boats. Once prospective migrants hear that the migrants are drowning, no more will come.
Gulp. Thought provoking indeed. (Puts head back in sand)

sportinguista · 29/01/2016 11:52

Because mouse, she wishes to be. She does not want to see any other point of view except her own and evidence that supports this.

You don't bother engaging with someone like that - it's useless, better to concentrate on those that are willing to engage with the discussion properly.

I'm not bothering to engage in whatever mud-slinging is going on - it's pointless.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 29/01/2016 11:53

It isn't just violence against women either - would you want to be a gay man against this army of intolerance?

The two groups the left only they understand.

sportinguista · 29/01/2016 12:04

I imagine it could get very bad for gay people of both sexes. I posted a while back about a lesbian friend of my husband's who lives with her girlfriend in the area we live in. Well, she did, but she has since moved due to the harassment she faced by some men (from NE/ME) who lived in the flat below. It got so constant and included threats of violence, she and her GF couldn't stay (for the record she and her GF are immigrants too but both from European countries).

So yes it will get a whole lot worse indeed...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2016 12:11

how can she be so ignorant on this matter?

I'm not sure that Jess Phillips is necessarily ignorant - more likely she simply doesn't want to know

No doubt there are exceptions, but IME most politicians, once elected, care a lot more about toeing the party line in order to climb the greasy pole than they do about the electorate's wishes - and unfortunately the party line is to avoid this issue whenever possible

Fishinminepuddle · 29/01/2016 12:13

i agree Grace.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 12:21

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/labour-mp-jess-phillips-says-mass-cologne-sex-attacks-on-women-like-birmingham-every-weekend-a6840981.html

"Now we have to attack what we perceive as patriarchal culture, coming into any culture that isn't patriarchal, and making sure we tell people not to be like that," she said.

glenthebattleostrich · 29/01/2016 12:24

Yes, I raised that Mouse, we discussed certain cultures attitudes to women at length (and I've given out a link to the petition to my tutor).

Off topic but I don't think I've ever been so scared to be a woman as I am now. The blatant sexism, the silencing and the push to change the actual definition of what a woman is makes me wonder what kind of world my daughter is going to grow up in. The media's attitude in all this has made me seriously question what else is not being reported. Although I should be grateful it has made me wake up and realise how things are going before it is too late.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 12:30

Labour MP jess Phillips

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 12:33

At least MP's are talking about it

GraceKellysLeftArm · 29/01/2016 12:33

puzzled She's awfully young too and probably grew up being spoon-fed the "official party line" and has never questioned it or read anything other than the Grauniad. :( Isn't it the labour council in Birmingham which is the biggest employer in the whole of Birmingham? Talk about brainwashed - it's on a par with North Korea. Wink

Gosh no, didn't mean just gay men - it's going to get ugly for anyone who isn't a beard-toting 18 stone man who doesn't mind throwing a right hook.

Had an ex who was a marine - when deployed in Afghanistan they all had to grow beards because the locals had no respect for a clean-shaven man.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2016 12:51

Yes Grace - I think you're right about the youth / brainwashing, etc, though IME a lot of much older politicians can be just as malleable

Had to smile about your ex and his beard, though ... would that be like the recent bright idea about CofE vicars growing beards?? Wink

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/12115434/Vicars-should-grow-beards-to-reach-out-to-Muslims-bishop-suggests.html

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 29/01/2016 12:57

Labour MP did not want to talk about it. It was a put down to an audience member who raised Cologne.

I agree it is not worth the energy engaging with her tbh and I mentioned it last night as it fitted in with other messages received from Labour.

(My SNP MP was willing to answer me thoughtfully , this is a small example of how SNP have won over Scotland from Labour. SNP are unashamedly pro immigration but nevertheless MP did engage on this. )

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 13:03

I never thought I'd be publishing a link from a Conservative MP but here goes.

David Davies emailed me to let me know that he spoke on this issue at the Council of Europe last week.

His speech, he says, is 1hr 32 mins in, on this link:
vodmanager.coe.int/coe/webcast/coe/2016-01-25-4/en

Off to have a listen. He's not pulling any punches.

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 13:07

Incidentally, I've not had so much as an acknowledgement from my own Tory MP.

carlajean · 29/01/2016 13:17

Jess Phillips! I'm so glad others feel the same way about her QT appearance. What an idiot, how the hell did she get elected?
Did anyone else notice how when another panel member was addressing the audience, but were being filmed from the side, she would lean forward and look into the camera, miming shock, horror, incredulity etc for the benefit of the camera.
I had to go to bed before the end, she was so annoying. and stupid. and arrogant

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:17

Apparently 15 year old and 17 year old migrants sexually assaulted 12 year old girl in one of the care homes
Who is supervising the children?

januarybrown1998 · 29/01/2016 13:21

David Davies = the hero of the hour.

That was an excellent speech and well done him calling out the previous speaker on dismissing what happened in Cologne.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:28

David Davies was the mp who emailed back to a few people on here and suggested we start a petition
