Let the debate continue.....

He was indeed.

I think he was genuinely cross when he made that speech, not just hamming it up.

The comparison with Jess Phillips is somewhat stark, and doesn't do Labour any favours.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:35

What did he say in the speech

venusinscorpio · 29/01/2016 13:38

Great speech from David Davies. I feel the left are badly letting me down, as a woman, at the moment.

januarybrown1998 · 29/01/2016 13:39

That we are essentially forgetting that Martin Luther and other enlightenment figures gave us the right to think critically about and question religion and make up our own minds and that the Suffragettes had sacrificed so much for women's rights and that the idea of one culture who did not see women, jews and homosexuals as equal dictating to Europe was appalling and that Europe needed to start waking up.

He also described graphically what happened in Cologne as the previous speaker has dismissed it as 'an incident'.

He was magnificent.

AND when I emailed to tell him so he replied personally and immediately.

He should be in charge. Smile

carlajean · 29/01/2016 13:41

could anybody post up another link? I can't read the previous one

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2016 13:43

Seems a shame we can't clone David Davies and spread a little common sense around other constituencies too Wink

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:45

Wow that sounds great!

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:47

I wish David Davies would say something similar in parliament
Or on something like question time

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:48

Not many people in UK are going to hear his speech to council of europe

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 13:49

Or on Radio 4, Bee.

carla, what link can't you read?

Fishinminepuddle · 29/01/2016 13:51

des femmes [[https://www.frauenrechte.de/online/index.php/about-us]]. We should have a UK branch.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:53

We need him to talk somewhere more public

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:53

Why is he such a lone voice

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 13:54

I think I read one newspaper article where he spoke, but not recently

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 14:00

Dunno, Bee.

BTW, Fish, I liked your earlier posts - but your link doesn't work!

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 14:04

I feel totally let down by labour, who I've voted for my whole life
The only person who's said anything that makes any sense is a Tory MP😕

januarybrown1998 · 29/01/2016 14:05

fish one of my former tutors is involved in this organisation for women's rights, HQ in Cambridge England

seeThereWeAreThen · 29/01/2016 14:07

Well............

That was a very passionate speech and well done David Davis.

I totally agree he needs to be heard more in the UK.

At one point I did worry he was maybe heading down a far right road but he managed to keep it balanced.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 14:11

So my own MP has of nappy replied (labour MP)

Thanks very much for getting in touch about violence against women and immigration. These are both issues I have done a huge amount of work on in Parliament. Violence against women is unacceptable, whoever it is perpetrated by, and we need to ensure women feel able to speak out and that perpetrators of sexual violence do not hide behind cultural differences.

The attacks that took place in Cologne on New Year’s Eve must be condemned in the strongest terms and I know the German authorities are now holding the perpetrators to account. However, UK Foreign Office advice hasn’t changed as a result of the attacks, as you can see here. Evidence suggests this was just a one off event, albeit one we need to make sure isn’t repeated. We also need to make sure our criticism is targeted at the criminals carrying out these acts and not immigrants as a whole. Many of the people coming to Europe are themselves fleeing violence like that seen in Cologne, and much worse, and we need to make sure we honour of providing refuge to those who need it. Of course, anyone coming to Europe must abide by the law in whichever country they are in, and face the consequences if they do not.

DespicableBee · 29/01/2016 14:12

Nappy replied 😀

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 29/01/2016 14:14

Wow, applauds David Davis!!

Can someone let me know his details so I too can email him!

Brilliant speech, short, the point and lots of good references in there too.

I liked his " put the bible in the hands of the people to make their own interpretations of it"

Wonderful!

emilybohemia · 29/01/2016 14:14

'I am shocked to see grown men claiming to be children . This isn't a refugee crisis it feels like infiltration'.

Hysterical rubbish and exactly what people said about the Jews many years ago. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Sporting, it only takes one or two of anyone to attack you. Why make it about refugees?

LongWayRound · 29/01/2016 14:15

I think this is the link that Fish meant to post.

Btw can I say thank you to everyone who has posted links to websites and articles on the these threads, I've learnt a lot.

Having thought of myself as a life-long leftwinger, I am very disheartened by the response of the left, paticularly but not just in the UK. I never thought I would be looking at so many rightwing websites. Sad

The article from Spiegel (not that Spiegel is rightwing) that was linked to earlier is just the kind of analysis that papers like the Guardian should be picking up, but won't.

LumelaMme · 29/01/2016 14:22

I've PM'ed you, Mouse.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 29/01/2016 14:22

emily The Norwegian authorities have admitted that NINETY percent of people claiming to be a "lone child" are in fact adults. Are we to condemn the Kingdom of Norway as "hysterical"? Hmm
