Thread 6.

OP posts:
WidowWadman · 16/01/2016 13:55

unlucky I think the cover ups are appalling, but don't see only parallels with Rotherham. Tell me of any large scale abuse or assault where there wasn't any cover up, victim blaming, victim smearing etc?

Is the cover up of Rotherham any different to the cover up of rape and abuse perpetrated by white people on positions of power?

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 13:55

Yes Polentapies, its just irksome on a site for women mainly its OK for posters to yell out despicable accusations of racism etc.

One particularity rude, offensive and down right goady poster....

A poster here has labeled nearly each and every one of us saw dust brains and racist but thats OK apparently Confused

If there is another forum where we are allowed to continue in peace I am happy to continue there.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 13:58

sorry is Fwr on here or elsewhere?

VertigoNun · 16/01/2016 13:59

Has anyone seen any decent left leaning press articles?

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 14:01

Allison ( from Telegraph) has replied asking if there is anything else she can do...

Any ideas????

VertigoNun · 16/01/2016 14:07

Sign and share the petition?

VertigoNun · 16/01/2016 14:09

Write an article on how we were nearly silenced on these threads and struggled to get a volunteer to have their name on the petition for fear of reprisals.

LumelaMme · 16/01/2016 14:10

Stone the crows.

Ask her to advertise the petition once it is up and running?

Will, FWR is on here. There are some good threads on there, though some get v academic v fast and unless you speak the lingo, you're a gonner.

Constancegardner · 16/01/2016 14:14

Speak to journalists in Germany, Denmark, Austria.
What happened, was there a cover up following instructions from Government, how do women and men feel about what happened? What have been the economic impacts after Cologne? Are the street empty now, are shops, theatres suffering? What's is like being a journalist there now? Do they feel censored?
Saudi Arabia is expected to implode sometime, wonder what impact that will have?

^^yes, yes! to this
She could link it to the reprisals that actual victims in Cologne have suffered.

fakenamefornow · 16/01/2016 14:25

Saudi Arabia is expected to implode sometime, wonder what impact that will have?

What do you mean?

hefzi · 16/01/2016 14:26

I'm sorry, I've bowed out of the thread now because I simply don't have the energy to cope with the constant derailing, or indeed, providing evidence for various assertions that is then ignored, and a new tactic fastened upon, simply as a means for undermining the very real and serious issues connected with these acts of SVAWG, simply because some posters wish to advance a dogmatic agenda. Ignorance is not a crime, but woeful and wanton ignorance is tiresome, tedious and takes away from the very real problems that need resolution.

However, as these issues, both narrowly and widely, are something I work on in my professional life, if there is going to be a letter to the press/petition/whatever, could someone contact me on PM? I am happy to add my name and professional affiliation.

PausingFlatly · 16/01/2016 14:26

Hmm I didn't volunteer for the petition because I disagreed with the wording - in major not minor ways.

And I'm not sure how six threads of nearly 1000 posts each constitutes being silenced. People have disagreed with you, but that's not the same thing.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 14:30

pausing thats the problem, they are not disagreeing though they have not engaged or answered any of the major links, points all posters have made! they ignore then trot out the same thing.

Hefzi do you have any thoughts on what else we can ask the telegraph jounro who has written on this very issue to do to aid us?

2016IsANewYearforMe · 16/01/2016 14:31

I'm impressed hefzi. I'll sign too.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 14:35

constance there are already a few articles detailing whats going on.

Attacks are still on going, and the far right is gaining ground, ordinary people are feeling Merkel is mad and has made a huge mistake and they are angry too. The far right has smashed up kebab owners shops, they are stoking fear even more and its all one gigantic mess Sad

2016IsANewYearforMe · 16/01/2016 14:36

I think Emily and Twisted are real. They haven't been changing names or anything like that. I suspect they are sincere. Just like those Guardian columnists are sincere.

I simply find both their contributions tedious and sophomoric. Rather than getting worn down or ending up in a slagging match out of sheer bad temper and frustration, I have found it easy to ignore them. I have multiple children. I am a master at tuning out whining, whinging, drivel, and stirring! I pay attention when I hear glass, smell blood or feel fire. Grin My eye has merely skipped across all their offerings for several threads. I don't read anyone's responses to them either. It has made keeping up with this these threads so much easier during a really hectic time for me and my family.

Constancegardner · 16/01/2016 14:43

Fake, interesting article in Huffington Post about SA, the elite weakening and possibly losing power. More conflict etc in the ME to come then, twas just a vague musing on what effect that would have,

Constancegardner · 16/01/2016 14:47

My point was for AP to talk to other journalists about their takedown what happened and why, to clarify.

polentapies · 16/01/2016 15:05

MNHQ I have sent a PM. Could you have look please? Thanks

fourmummy · 16/01/2016 15:12

emily I'm not sure why you are concerned about my posts but tolerate posts that say 'some cultures don't mix.' Merkel said this in 2010. Is she far right too (which is what you accuse me of later in your post. I won't tolerate being called far right. Mumsnet??).

noeffingidea · 16/01/2016 15:44

Why doesn't this forum have an ignore button? Other forums (large ones as well) do. It would be easy to phase posters who consistently attempt to derail out of the discussion.

Roonerspism · 16/01/2016 15:56

Still following..... Don't have time to post till later.

anonooo · 16/01/2016 15:56

If we are allowed to discuss stuff and not just work on the petition, I'd be interested to know what people think of this. I find it pretty good...but suspect many will see it as apologism

Allison ( from Telegraph) has replied asking if there is anything else she can do...

Will, perhaps a draft of the statement to be included in the petition could be sent to her asking for her advice and opinion. After all, she’s a journalist and must be good at tailoring prose to fit a word/character count!

What I would like from the government:

A full and frank debate about the group sexual assaults and any actions that the government needs to take to ensure that any similar attacks in this country are dealt with more effectively and transparently than we have seen elsewhere in Europe.

An acknowledgement that these attacks are different in style and scale to what we have seen before in Europe, with the use of social media possibly introducing a worrying element of coordination.

An assurance that upholding existing women’s rights, such as the right to move around freely without being molested, is a priority, whatever shifts in cultural demographics take place.

As far as wording goes, I would like a petition to express our concerns in a way that would allow a moderate Muslim woman in the UK to sign without feeling she is being disloyal to her culture as a whole.
