My life is really good 'emily' Grin

I live in a peaceful area. I can walk down the street without being worried or frightened. I can drive my car and go to work. I can speak to anyone I wish to and go anywhere I want. My life is free and easy ta very much.

My life is great, I wonder what yours is like? To spend day after day posting repetitive rhetoric that nobody is interested in.

Don't you have better things to do?

Helpforanimals, I wasn't trying to be a smarty pants. I said I didn't know why Muslim ladies wore it. I also said that if you value women's rights, it seems you should support their choice to wear it, or should every woman in the world be like you?

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 20:30

Olive, so much better and yes to tarrush. Thank you.

What were the focus group results?

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 20:32

What other thread did John, err I mean Emily start

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 20:33

Well, if the hashtag is what people want to use for a twitter action, i think you can right click on the image and save. I made one all black one too... not too fussed, no experience with Twitter..

venusinscorpio · 13/01/2016 20:34

it seems you should support their choice to wear it

I support it when it is their free choice. Except many times it isn't.

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 20:34

Mama, my thinking was that 'live' covers all of those things, but yes, listing them is also powerful.

Was also thinking, they were partying on NYE rather than travelling?

Excellent grow work though, and nobody has chucked anything out of the pram yet...Grin

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 20:35

Excellent work Pink. Smile

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 20:35

I love that image, Pink, you clever thing! Impressive.

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 20:37

Emily where did I say women shouldn't wear a headscarf? I asked a perfectly normal question but as usual you put your own meaning and your own words in to it, then you get offensive about my life. Well, I love my life and as much as I love MN I don't feel the need to spend my whole day on here being offensive to others unlike you.

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 20:39

Despicible its in chat, about how badly muslims are treated of course.

emilybohemia · 13/01/2016 20:39

Well Venus, if the issue is women being forced to dress a certain way, that's ceratinly not limited to one group of women is it?

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 20:40

And if the focus is on Europe maybe this one?

LumelaMme · 13/01/2016 20:40

Would that be group work, Olive? Wink

iPost · 13/01/2016 20:40

Pink

That is an expectionally good logo.

MamaMary · 13/01/2016 20:41

OK

Women across Europe must be free to move about in public spaces and to wear what they choose, without the threat of sexual violence.

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 20:44

Great, hashtag Cologne or Europe?

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 20:45

It was teamwork!

hiddenhome2 · 13/01/2016 20:46

Afghan woman exercising her right to wear her head covering.

She looks happy and liberated doesn't she?

if she takes her coverings off, she risks being mutilated or put to death

On New Year's Eve, hundreds of women across Europe were sexually assaulted by large gangs of men with unacceptable attitudes towards women. All women living in liberal democracies must be free to move about in public spaces and to wear what they choose, without the threat of sexual violence. In the light of these recent events, which we fear have been minimised by sections of the mainstream media, we call on the British Government to have an honest and open debate about how they intend uphold the liberal and democratic rights and freedoms of women.

I'd leave out 'tarrush gamea' simply because I've just googled it and no explanation or translation came up. People won't have heard of it and it's not easy for them to find out. We need to keep this simple.

I'd also leave out 'victim blaming' because it is too inflammatory and will be a red rag to a bull for some sadly.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 20:50

emily: "I also said that if you value women's rights, it seems you should support their choice to wear it, or should every woman in the world be like you?"

Not if it is worn to convey hostility and separateness. I think France has got it right. A substantial number of the French are catholic and they do attend church. You dont see catholics in Paris flaunting their faith. The French allow all faiths to practise their religion and have their own buildings. BUT they believe one's religion is a private matter and should not be on display in public, esp. in such an in-your-face way as Muslim women want to do.

Burkas (and even headscarves worn all day) sow discord and separateness because the wearer is conveying: I am different to you, I am not really part of life in this society.

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 20:52

If we use the Europe one, this version is better as the female symbol is more accurately centred in this version. .

They were two girls, two boys between 15-18. They were very quick to criticise their (female) peers who had become vocal about immigration and how afraid they had become of Muslims.

They feared a right-wing backlash, and specifically worried that the BNP would get involved and make things worse.

They were asked what aspects of the issue might be racist and they said that Algerians and Moroccans 'spoiling things' for genuine Syrian refugees was racist, which I found interesting (that they confused nationality and race).

One girl thought that protecting women would only be racist if you refused to protect non-European women who lived here (I wanted to cheer, sat on hands).

It was informal in that I was at an event and asked if I might speak to volunteers, it was under 15 minutes and completely on the hoof but I thought the feedback interesting.

This is very good Mama.
