Can you think of wording we can add or change to the petition?

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 18:16

I complained to the bbc about not explaining Tara Hudson was using her seven inch surprise the day before going to Prison. They said if she didn't tell them she works on Adult world inserting her Penis into other people, to earn a living so wasn't living as a woman as they claim, it's not their fault they misreported the situation.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 13/01/2016 18:19

"To me, this is akin to thinking all Arab and North African-looking men must be suicide bombers because the terrorists we see on TV look like them. Such a blanket association would, rightly, not be acceptable in liberal, Western society. Yet this same society seems to shy away from holding men from Muslim backgrounds to similar standards."

That sums it up nicely from the article above. It was the men on NYE who were racist and sexist, not our reaction to it.

CouncilOfLadies · 13/01/2016 18:21

Karren Brady is in the House of Lords.

She might be willing to support this.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 18:21

The annoying thing is, even though 561 people have made complaints to police in cologne, not one person has been charged, with anything, what's the point in changing the law to make it easier to deport criminals, if no one is ever charged, its a joke, a cover up, and if the CCTV has been deleted

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 18:23

I think a bbc complaint, for numbers, expect them to point at another for their shoddy journalists who misrepresent situations to the public. A email to culture is a good idea too.

Quote from Egyptian Hamed Abdel Samed:

"Forty years ago, hardly a woman in Cairo wore a headscarf, and public sexual harassment was rare. Today there is hardly a woman who is not veiled, yet they are hassled and groped on public streets.

"The same could be said for Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, along with most of the other predominantly Muslim countries."

Constancegardner · 13/01/2016 18:25

Yes, Despicable, and if you use your phone to record such events, then, you foolish woman, have been flaunting your position as a privileged Western woman, therefore anything which happens to you is your own fault etc

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 18:26

I don't understand all this headscarf wearing, is the sight of hair so arousing?

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 18:26

On New Years eve across Europe hundreds of women were sexually assaulted by large gangs of men with unacceptable attitudes towards women. Women across Europe must be free to travel where they want, and wear what they want, without fear or experience of sexual violence. We should not in 2016, have to experience news articles that minimise or victim blame, targets of Men who sexually assault. We call on the British Government to debate the implications for women’s rights in light of what has taken place.

MamaMary · 13/01/2016 18:27

Guys, complain to Ofcom, the broadcast media regulator, about the BBC.

They are responsible for ensuring output is impartial and accurate. A complaint to them will be more effective than going straight to the BBC.

consumers.ofcom.org.uk/complain/tv-and-radio-complaints/

Also the BBC Trust - responsible for standards and to which the BBC is also accountable, along with Ofcom.

LongWayRound · 13/01/2016 18:28

I had a look on FB for a page titled "Syrian refugees say no to sexism" and found dozens of pages titled "Say no to Syrian refugees". :(

The page I was looking for is actually "Syrer Gegen Sexismus": they are organising a demonstration in Cologne on Saturday.

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 18:29

vertigo may I copy that to use in my email please?

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 13/01/2016 18:30

That's a great article Polenta. I tried to bring up earlier the factor of western pornography and the effect it has on the image of European women abroad.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 18:35

Yes.Wi am just messing around with wording. I don't know how to add a bit about a safe place for refugees without it overshadowing the Woman's rights, maybe we just have to leave it aside and mention Women from every heritage?

venusinscorpio · 13/01/2016 18:36

kesstrel

The other thing that disgusted me was Joan Smith's absolute certainty that Rotherham had nothing to do with cultural attitudes to white women/girls.

Yes. I wonder where the 18 year old Muslim rapist mentioned upthread who got away without a prison sentence for raping a thirteen year old girl and said "I have been taught that women are no more worthy than a lollipop dropped on the ground" in his defence, despite ignorance of the law traditionally being no excuse, fitted in with that view?

fourmummy · 13/01/2016 18:43

Just e-mailed David Davies. Thank you for posting the e-mail to make things easier. Appreciated. Back to work, but very encouraged by the ongoing debates in the threads.

You can set up an activist twitter account if you have privacy concerns.

polentapies I know Scotland is quite on the ball wrt FGM.

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 18:50

Maybe something like:

"Whilst we empathise with the plight of refugees, our hard-won women's rights, the rights of 50% of the electorate, the rights of British women of all religions and race, must remain a firm priority and be communicated clearly to all those who chose to live in our country."

polentapies · 13/01/2016 18:57

We are not a minority group though, we are half the population. I'm fed up being treated like a fucking minority group, (no offence to minority groups!), as that means that we accept that white men are the alpha group
