link to part 2

Keeping this in the spotlight since the mainstream media isn't.

OP posts:
venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 22:35

Yes, and it's also perfectly reasonable for people to accuse you of derailing, whataboutery and bending over backwards to ignore relevant elements of the incident in question out of a zealously misguided desire for cultural relativism, emily.

misswans · 09/01/2016 22:36

Then you are no better than the Guardian and their censorship. The very thing people on this thread don't like

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 22:36

The wind up merchants have arrived eh? Hmm

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 22:36

Hiddeninhome, you can't order people to leave a thread because they say things you don't like. I thought you were all about the freedom of women.

onthephone100 · 09/01/2016 22:37

Looks like it.

LumelaMme · 09/01/2016 22:37

Of racism: It is so normaland acceptable to so many of you that you are blind to it.
Seriously? Emily, I'm pretty sure that I said on an earlier thread that I am of mixed descent. I don't look it, I don't get shit for looking different - but I have relatives who do.

Do you have the least idea how patronising you sound to me?

onthephone100 · 09/01/2016 22:37

But you're not derailing Emily? Right?

onthephone100 · 09/01/2016 22:38

Right, I am definitely calling it a night.

Hopefully normality will have returned by morning....

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 22:38

Missswans, so can people only post on here if they have a similar view or one that people will like?

fourmummy · 09/01/2016 22:39

Emily There must be a unified response to ALL male violence Why? Should we discuss all antisemitic violence when discussing the Holocaust or do you possibly think that the specific cultural identity, geopolitical elements and other localised cultural trends at that time could possibly have decent explanatory power?

As posters have already mentioned, people are reading, processing and learning from this thread. I know I am. It is important to keep it going in its original manifestation.

WildeWoman · 09/01/2016 22:39

Here again is a link to the parliament MP thingy

www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/

Scroll down and there is a clicky link to the list. This issue fits the criteria of contacting your MP when you feel strongly about a cause. It also waffles on about the house of commons etc. Basically, an MP can raise any question he sees fit - you don't need 100000 signatures.

Opposition parties usually work hardest.

You might find your party politics may change based on the responses you receive.

If anyone does receive a response, please post it here. We'll soon wade through the wheat and the chaff.

Good look ladies!!!

Oh - and it might be worth linking to this thread (these three threads), just so that it's known that this IS a massive concern to women in the UK/Europe.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 22:39

You haven't answered my question emily

I have another one for you too.........

Do you think misogynistic, patriarchal, oppressive belief systems act in women's best interests?

polentapies · 09/01/2016 22:40

Fuck em. Ignore. Did anyone look at the Lara Logan clip i posted? Horrific and v prescient

misswans · 09/01/2016 22:41

Emily. I been lurking MN for ages. There is a hivemind here. If you disagree with the masses you'll find yourself reported and probably banned

Sure we can say what we want but people here don't like it

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 22:41

Lumela, this is what I said to you.

Lumela, 'I am NOT a racist. I am NOT a xenophobe. I believe that western values are important and should not be compromised because SOME immigrants can't cope with them'. Some immigrants can't cope with them, as some of the non immigrants can't. Why not highlight all points where safety of women is violated and stress the importance of that to mps? There also needs to be a return on this thread to examining the failures of policing in Cologne, the fact that it appears police saw what was happening and did not assist the women.

Where do I call you a racist or patronise you?

venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 22:42

My suggestion is that she can only derail the thread if people argue with her on a tangent. No one has to.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 22:43

Yes, but you're not actually saying anything. Just criticising and making a noise. I see words, but they don't say anything Hmm

C'mon, regurgitate the party line, we're all waiting with baited breath.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 22:43

You're absolutely right venus

Justanotherlurker · 09/01/2016 22:43

Re your racism point, I've actually watched threads on here that state I cannot be racist as I'm of ethnic origin so I'm unsure in what way you think you've offended me Emily.

venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 22:44

It's really not your place to tell Lumela what she is allowed to write to her MP.

TwistedReach · 09/01/2016 22:44

I am glad to see comments about 'sending syrians home' challenged.
I think deeply disturbed behaviour, which sexual violence is, needs to be understood if we really want to get rid of it. That is not to minimise it- I feel the same about murder and torture- of men, women and male and female children. And i feel the same about self abuse. I think the argument that by trying to understand what makes people do these things is condoning it in some way, bizarre. I truly don't believe any babies are born bad. Some are more sensitive and vulnerable than others and that can lead to some very disturbed and disturbing outcomes.
In this context- if the attackers were refugees, then we are talking about a group who have had to endure more than we can possibly imagine. It is an infinitely tiny group proportionally of the migrants that come looking for safety. One of the tragedies of this is the additional abuse and neglect (shutting the doors so that they get blown up) that all refugees including women will get because of this. If we want this world to stand a chance we have to find away to share our global privilege and that includes taking in those who have been so fucked up by their experiences that empathy has been blown to pieces. Of course attacking women is outrageous and devastating. But just as prison does not stop violent and disturbed people committing violent crime in this country, I don't think just telling 'them' it is unacceptable or even sending them back to be killed, will cut it. This is such a tiny number of refugees, so it is clearly not about them being muslim- we have to really understand what on earth is going on that makes people do these things if we want things to change.

venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 22:45

Sorry, I broke my own rule! that will be the last one Blush

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 22:45

I also said Lumela, 'normal and acceptable to many of you.' It was not directed toward you.

WildeWoman · 09/01/2016 22:45

Gosh - why do I manage to post when there's a de-railer on board! A few posts up, I've linked to where you can find details of your MPs.

Here it is again!

www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 22:46

Venus, I didn't tell, I suggested. I am certain she has her own mind.
