link to part 2

Keeping this in the spotlight since the mainstream media isn't.

OP posts:

I am absolutely digusted, and sickened, by how easily women get pushed down

I agree although I am saddened to say I don't think we are helping ourselves here.

The disproportionate outcry over the professor and cricketer was astonishing.

The absolute lack of cohesive, immediate, loud and clear condemnation of the acts of NYE by those same loud feminists has been a disgrace.

Terror of being labelled racist = effective gag.

Real life women being physically attacked versus some off-colour remarks.

Interested to see your Guardian and Beeb letters if you'd care to PM. Happy to send similar.

BungoWomble · 11/01/2016 10:33

Misread, Olive, sorry, no female gangs. Despite common belief, a gang of 1000 women would cause just as many problems for men. Interesting that isn't it.

2016IsANewYearforMe · 11/01/2016 10:36

I've already written my MP, a BBC letter is a good idea too.

I haven't noticed this on women's hour in r4 yet either.

Olivepip59 · 11/01/2016 10:43

Yes, bungo, a whole lot!

Bloody disgrace Women's Hour aren't leading with this.

Am emailing the editor now. Should I link to these threads or is that not allowed?

The chap that did the how-to-treat-European-women training in Norway for male refugees and immigrants got back to me.

The abstract is in English and obviously not very detailed, but results hopeful.

Sadly the programme no longer runs due to cuts.

Happy to ask for and organise translation of full Norwegian report if it would be useful in this campaign in the future.

Constancegardner · 11/01/2016 10:47

Woman' s Hour has totally ignored the issue, just the usual fare on offer.
What a monumental let down.

www.express.co.uk/news/world/598256/ISIS-Rape-Yazidi-Koran-Mosul-Jihad-Slavery-Alyas-Karmani-Muslim-Islam-Said-Mimousini

"He said that raping me is his prayer to God. I said to him, 'What you’re doing to me is wrong, and it will not bring you closer to God.'

"And he said, 'No, it’s allowed. It’s halal.'

The Bradford preacher - who tours the UK to help stop young Muslims from turning to ISIS - claimed that the surge in British Muslims joining ISIS is "all about sex".

The Koran states, “O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies that they may thus be distinguished and not molested.”

fourmummy · 11/01/2016 10:55

Excellent point - but it does still leave the everyday, normalised, mundane, non-extreme aspects of behaviour or belief, which may still be unpalatable to a liberal democratic tradition, unchallenged. I expect that these would have to be tolerated as long as they don't break the law

Which law? This is the crux of these threads. The gold standard is the liberal, democratic, free speech tradition rooted in equality and justice. We must keep our eye on the prize - keep looking up, not sideways, when going forward (this sounds like a campaign slogan. What's happening to me? Must leave threads).

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 11/01/2016 11:03

werks

I love your posts. I have not led a sheltered life, and it does surprise me, and please me, how sheltered some people are. There is nothing wrong with this at all, some people have to have calm and safe lovely lives.
It just means naivety.

regenerationfez · 11/01/2016 11:03

Yes, if only the burka did protect women from rape. All it does is give Islamofascists the excuse to treat women who don't wear it as whores.

hiddenhome2 · 11/01/2016 11:04

The Koran states, “O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies that they may thus be distinguished and not molested.”

Great Confused

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 11/01/2016 11:05

It seems that Scott Trust Ltd owns the Guardian Newspaper and the Guardian Group as a whole. I think Liz Forgan (ex-C4) is still the CEO at Scott, so it might be an idea to go over the head of the Guardian's Editor straight to the Big Cheese?

BungoWomble · 11/01/2016 11:06

I'd be interested in knowing if other people on here think it is fair to contrast / compare the media reporting of the November terrorist attacks in France. Obviously people died then. But the scale of these attacks is horrifying. Many many more attackers, and more victims overall.

BungoWomble · 11/01/2016 11:07

And across more locations? Certainly more widespread.

hiddenhome2 · 11/01/2016 11:08

The media people will just come out with mealy mouthed excuses though. They're not going to want to criticise any belief system in case it inflames things. This is what they'll claim.

The population of Europe isn't ready for the unpalatable truth.

regenerationfez · 11/01/2016 11:09

Of course martyrdom and joinING the jihad is all about sex. They die in the hope they will go to heaven greeted by limitless virgins. What will they do to them when they get there? It certainly won't be chatting we need to respect people's right to practice their religion to a certain extent, but when there is a clash between religion and any other right or freedom, it should be bottom of the list by a long long way.

unlucky83 · 11/01/2016 11:10

Twisted brains do stop 'developing' as we progress from adolescence - latest research as I understand it is it may be as late as 25....you could get into an argument about whether trauma during adolescence -when the brain is effectively rewiring - causes permanent damage -the wrong 'connections' are made.

(I have quite a good understanding of a lot of the arguments nature vs nurture etc- I have a doctorate in Biochemistry and had a keen interest in Molecular Biology (study of DNA/Genes) and Genetics)
My point is you used exposure to trauma to 'excuse' the behaviour of these men - worse you then went onto say that it could be long term - even be hereditary... I would stay away from that line of argument (suspect some in the far right would love it) - if you want to support refugees from war zones...

hiddenhome2 · 11/01/2016 11:10

Yes indeed Bungo, but men were hurt. Things only really matter if it involves men.

BungoWomble · 11/01/2016 11:13

Men and women were hurt. It was indiscriminate. That's the point. Discriminate violence= discriminate reporting?

BungoWomble · 11/01/2016 11:14

I think it's a fair comparison that really proves the point, but it may just be me...

hiddenhome2 · 11/01/2016 11:16

How would it have been reported if a few women had been killed and hurt, but no men involved? Who knows.

hiddenhome2 · 11/01/2016 11:17

What if these racists had attacked and sexually assaulted gay men? I imagine the outcry would be stronger.

CalmYoBadSelf · 11/01/2016 11:20

While hundreds of women have been molested and their rights compromised to protect their attackers, The Wright Stuff had a phone in on whether it is sexist to use the term "Housewife Pillowcase"

Attempting to change this really is pointless, I despair of the world we are handing on to our children :(

emilybohemia · 11/01/2016 11:21

'On the original thread it was obvious it had been hijacked by people joining MN to deliberately post ugly and inflammatory remarks yet the posts were deemed ok by the more vocal of posters because they were in line with much of what was being said. I challenged it and was shouted down yet MNHQ did go on to suspend accounts after investigation the posters I reported. I was told they also suspected sock-puppeteering was going on.

And now we have two posters posting a different point of view to the majority and people think its ok to challenge them and say they're trolls.

It very much seems that someone is only a troll etc if you don't agree with the party line. But if you do agree with the party line, regardless of how ignorant and offensive you are when voicing your opinion, you're ok, you're not a troll - even when you are.

Double standards much.'

Yes Samsoora, I am surprised that the troll hunting that went on last night has been allowed to go on by mumsnet HQ. I am disgusted acctually.

Olivepip59 · 11/01/2016 11:23

Paris: The victims were multicultural and of both sexes.

There was immediate outcry and condemnation (well, some papers verged on disapproval).

Koln: The victims were (to my knowledge) white, German and female.

The authorities and press were silent until social media cried out.

I read somewhere also that Facebook references were deleted.

Now that really worries me.

hiddenhome2 · 11/01/2016 11:24

I'm disgusted by your racist and disableist comments 'emily' Hmm
