Keeping this in the spotlight since the mainstream media isn't.

Twisted, don't worry, they want to intimidate us off the thread. If they were sure of the validity of what they are saying and had integrity they wouldn't need to do that. I will challenge racism and those that use women's rights to further a far right agenda and I will not be intimidated.

Obviously feel free to engage if you like a bit of goady fuckery.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 10/01/2016 22:23

Pink The chap who was shot in Paris was Syrian!? I'm really surprised, always thought the Syrians were more levelheaded. But I guess the bombing of his country was too much for him to bear.

hiddenhome2 · 10/01/2016 22:24

Yes, it would be interesting to hear how other Europeans have been dealing with these kinds of lawless behaviours olive

I can't understand how the Germans have got this so wrong and failed to vet incomers properly. They're usually so methodical and organised.

I haven't commented on the threads yet, but have been following them. It's a seriously scary situation, and it's unbelievable that they aren't being reported more.
I for one am not one of those that go around saying "they don't belong here, send them back" as there are plenty fleeing that are normal, law abiding people terrified and running just like any of us would be doing.
I DO think however, that it is absolute insanity to just let everyone in with no or cursory checks into background.
Also, it's definitely a cultural aspect being ignored here. How on earth can you just attempt to merge two completely, at odds views towards women and expect there to be instant harmony?!
It just isn't going to happen realistically, is it? We're basically in a state of undress compared to some countries and what they are brought up to believe.
Tolerance and respecting each other as fellow humans is what needs to be taught.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 10/01/2016 22:28

they didn't get chance

Merkel uttered those words and that was it other countries let them go through as soon as they could

it was foolish of her but I don't think anyone a year ago could have possibly predicated how many refugees would make their way to Europe. Turkey were struggling for a long time but that was not really our problem

them and us

I certainly don't want any refugees who can't cook..that's disgusting

Pinkchampchoccies · 10/01/2016 22:30

"There is something wrong with campaigning against male sexual violence whilst linking it to one group. You demonised that group. I think pinkchamp knows this, as she mentioned not making too big a deal of immigration when writing to mps. She knows the racist connotations."

No, you are wrong.

Cellardoor1 · 10/01/2016 22:31

Emily there are plenty of far right views to challenge on the daily mail site or something. Not so many here. Why not start your own thread about general male violence? As the title says, this one is about the coordinated attacks on hundreds of women which happened on NYE in Cologne and other cities.

Omg ive just read its now 600!!
A few days ago they were talking about 100 attacks in one night

Rustique · 10/01/2016 22:36

Can I just say that I am in full agreement with the majority of the posters on this thread too.

The whole situation is a mess and it has been triggered by the monumentally stupid decision to just throw the doors open. Of course a lot of thugs took the opportunity to arrive, alongside the ones that had the means to pay the smugglers and some Isis operatives for good measure. I suspect many of the truly vulnerable ones are still in Syria or in camps around Syria, or being abused by the criminals in refugee shelters in Germany.

How ironic, not only are the women in Europe facing unprecedented attacks, but we also let down the refugees that most need our help.

Olivepip59 · 10/01/2016 22:37

Yeah, but she did report his excellent curtain-based jokes, so at least she wasn't patronising him. Or us. Grin

emilybohemia · 10/01/2016 22:37

Your hate and scorn were clear ego. Your statement that it was insensitive because of the attacks is ridiculous. Can there not be any more articles showing refugees integrating and settling in until a specified time? What on earth has being a trans woman got to do with this?

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/01/2016 22:37

I disappoint you Emily? oops my bad.

DespicableBee · 10/01/2016 22:38

Sorry I read it wrong, cologne is now 516 but Hamburg is 133, the article was adding them together
Hamburg, I've hardly heard anything about it

LongWayRound · 10/01/2016 22:39

hidden "The authorities need to trawl through these people and identify genuine refugees and then return migrants who aren't supposed to be there. People from Algeria and Morroco don't need to leave their countries."

Exactly. Algerians and Moroccans seem to have played a large part in the assaults, but nowhere in the articles on this have I seen any indication of what proportion of recent immigrants are from these two countries. Suggesting that these people should be sent back to their home countries is not the same as suggesting that Syrians fleeing civil war should be refused refuge.

There is an article here from Al Jazeera on the way in which Moroccans have been trying to reach western Europe through Turkey and Greece. Despite the quotes included in the article, people are not dying of hunger in Morocco.

DespicableBee · 10/01/2016 22:41

So a similar thing happened in Hamburg on a fairly large scale, eg over 100 people
