link to part 2

Keeping this in the spotlight since the mainstream media isn't.

Olivepip, you are wrong. Western women experience attacks too, sometimes with fingers, it doesn't just happen in the middle East. Or were the experiences of those gang raped by footballers figments of their imagination?

2016IsANewYearforMe · 10/01/2016 12:28

It's a matter of scale, temp, and frequency emily.

We want bad things to happen less not more.

onthephone100 · 10/01/2016 12:29

For fucks sake do we have to qualify this discussion by saying we don't support misogynist rapist footballers?

Fucking REALLY??

Bienchen · 10/01/2016 12:30

Delurking,j ust returned to Mumsnet active posting after several years absence.

misswans · 10/01/2016 12:31

funny how you get pissed at being silenced at threat of racism, yet are more than happy to tell me they are being sexist if they disagree with womens rights

Good ole hypocrisy

Olivepip59 · 10/01/2016 12:35

Thank you.

Last night, I tried this:

me: cologne blah blah

Nice liberal chap: but that makes you sound racist

Me: No. It makes you sound sexist.

And that is, until you wonderful people can furnish me with a better response, will become my stock in trade answer.

I am sick and tired of being made to examine my (absolutely spotless) conscience for the tiniest trace of racism in the face of such blatant and unchallenged condescending sexism.

Yes, I think a culture that values women and makes them equal is superior to one that sees them as chattels and sex objects.

Racist? Hardly.

Culturally insensitive? Possibly, who fucking cares? Get over it.

LumelaMme · 10/01/2016 12:38

I wasn't misinterpreting anything polenta.
I think you were, emily. She used the word 'offer' iirc.

While you used the word 'should' when discussing (as I read it) writing to my MP.

I keep vowing not to engage with your apparently wilful misunderstanding.

I can't be the only person here who remembers the kid at school who would wind you up, and wind you up, and wind you up, and then you snapped and bashed them one would go crying to teacher.

Bienchen · 10/01/2016 12:39

I want to know who has given instruction that the media are not to report the problems here.

Another incident involving a teenage girl in Duesseldorf, media were instructed not to report to protect the underage victim
www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article150809612/15-Jaehrige-von-Syrer-und-Iraker-sexuell-belaestigt.html

I am not sure what to make of the fact the the very conservative Welt newspaper seems to be taking the lead on reporting and uncovering these events. Their reporting is excellent.

Was discussing recent events with a female work colleague and friends. Seems women are appalled but not appalled enough for fear of being out in the right wing corner.

emilybohemia · 10/01/2016 12:40

There are many incidents that tell us that Western culture does NOT value women, the statistics on rape convictions for one.

LumelaMme · 10/01/2016 12:42

emily, it's a matter of degree. Western cultures (plural, note: they are 'not all the same') value women more than do some other cultures. Western cultures value women more than they did a century ago.

I give up. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

MariscallRoad · 10/01/2016 12:44

Well said Olive.

Bienchen · 10/01/2016 12:45

Minister for Justice thinks NYE attacks were coordinated via social networks. Also that men from Belgium Holland and France were asked to come to Cologne for the event (cannot think of a better word atm).

2016IsANewYearforMe · 10/01/2016 12:46

I agree Olive. I was thinking about this last night. When women's rights and multiculturalism collide, I won't be put on the back foot by people complaining about racism, instead I will take umbrage at their sexism.

I am noticing that there is a lot of talk of racism that is totally insincere, but just a fig-leaf for misogyny.

emilybohemia · 10/01/2016 12:48

Pink it is your belief that it is of paramount importance to criticize certain ethnic groups in regard to rapes rather than viewing rapes from all groups that is racist. Why no concern for rapes that happen at Oktoberfest? Why not greater restrictions or new laws for those offenders? Because you view 'ethnic groups' as more dangerous. To do so is demonizing those groups. Ever heard of how black men were demonised by the Ku Klux Klan as potential rapists? The same thing is going on here.

Suggesting that lone men and unaccompanied male minors don't deserve help because of the actions of a few is abhorrent and extremely callous.

ch1bi · 10/01/2016 12:50

what about women who aren't white? Which should they prioritise? Feeling threatened by misogynist attacks, or feeling threatened by racism?

SlaggyIsland · 10/01/2016 12:51

It's a joke, I'm the least racist person on the planet, but it would be utterly disingenuous to suggest that the safely of women doesn't differ from region to region globally.
And on that basis, it was pretty unfair to import that lack of safety and inflict it on European women.
And worse then trying to cover it up.

WildeWoman · 10/01/2016 12:53

Bienchen - so this is a 'thing'? 'Taharrush gamea phenomenon'?

In any case, they appear to be using this as a weapon. Would you all agree? Apart from one on this thread who will just answer an entirely different question Grin

SurferJet · 10/01/2016 12:53

Olivepip.
But that's the problem. People are so scared of coming across as racist that any in depth serious debate ( or any debate at all? ) is shutdown. I can't see that ever changing quite frankly which is very depressing.
Thank god for this thread.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 10/01/2016 12:55

Why no concern for rapes that happen at Oktoberfest?

Feminists are always complaining about rape and sexual assault. Where have you been? It seems like you have been the one not paying attention until now.

The only difference is when we complain about VAW from the dominant majority we are told that we must not tar all men with the same brush. When we complain about rapes from minority we are told that we are told that we cannot tar a minority culture with the same brush.

It's so exhausting.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 10/01/2016 12:56

A police source in Germany says they are told to keep quiet about migrant crime. This probably impacts on the women in refugee accommodation more than any other group.

Pinkchampchoccies · 10/01/2016 12:56

"Pink it is your belief that it is of paramount importance to criticize certain ethnic groups in regard to rapes rather than viewing rapes from all groups that is racist."

What? [baffled emoticon] It is my belief that you have an active imagination not normally a bad thing if appropriately channeled

"Why no concern for rapes that happen at Oktoberfest? Why not greater restrictions or new laws for those offenders?"

Whatabout, what about, wahtabout ad nauseam.

"Because you view 'ethnic groups' as more dangerous."
Again you are inventing things which is why i will disengage with you. I did not say this anywhere over the last 2.5 posts, go read them.
However it is more dangerous if certain groups have become untouchable in terms of reporting and talking about their criminal behaviour.

Footballer rape: press is all over it like a rash. Rape by migrants censorship galore. end of.
