Keeping this in the spotlight since the mainstream media isn't.

"And then perhaps it is not surprising if a tiny tiny minority of the refugees who make it here are furious and so disturbed that they too want to be the ones who have enough power to cause someone else to feel something- even if its hurt and fear."

Twisted I don't think many posters here lack imagination or empathy for people in trouble. What is taken issue with is that girls and women i.e. in Germany are told to moderate their behaviour as they go about their normal everyday life, because Germany and Austria feel unable to deal with criminal migrants. Women's hard won freedoms are openly being curtailed as confirmed by German and Austrian politicians. This is outrageous.

TwistedReach · 09/01/2016 23:35

No hidden- but we do need to think about and try to understand
it. And 'send them back' will not make it better.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 09/01/2016 23:35

I lack empathy for the guys running amok.

Cellardoor1 · 09/01/2016 23:36

Ok Twisted we should all feel guilty then for our privileged lifestyles and allow these men to use women's bodies so that they can gain some semblance of power back. Got it Hmm

Pinkchampchoccies · 09/01/2016 23:36

Not better for whom?

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 09/01/2016 23:37

Thats not quite true, Actually when I think of those who harm others I do feel sorry for the children they once were.

polentapies · 09/01/2016 23:38

Are women to be sacrificed then? Fuck off to that, sorry

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 23:38

It might make it better for us though.

I only care about me and my community tbh.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 23:40

And here's me thinking that if someone lets you live in their country, you're actually pleasant to them in return.

It's just manners and respect after all.

venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 23:41

Yes, perhaps Twisted thinks we should be their "comfort women". FFS. That's as reasonable an interpretation of her words as her view that many people on this thread are racist.

shins · 09/01/2016 23:41

Yes. Fuck off to Guardian Towers, they're probably organising a whip-round so the poor lambs can have some counselling. And the rape victims need "diversity training"

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 23:45

shins
Families pay smugglers too and the majority of men don't smash and grab their way to Europe. They often arrive in overfilled boats, sometimes crushed or suffocating because the smugglers piled so many people in. The journey is hard. Quite often people are smashing or grabbing the refugees, like in Bulgaria where police and locals beat them black and blue and rob them.

Canada also refuses lone males under 18 that have travelled alone. There are a lot of child refugees travelling alone. Imagine that. I wonder what will happen to them.

polentapies · 09/01/2016 23:45

Fucking hell. I've heard it all now. Perhaps they should have set up a counseling triage in that Sq in Cologne; give the poor angry men a nice cup of tea or a malt whisky and then have a chat to find out what made them want to kettle passing women then stick their hands in their underwear

bluebolt · 09/01/2016 23:45

I have sympathy for the women attacked, for the women living in fear and for the women who travelled with these men (I dread to think what some of those have been through). I feel sorry for all the decent refugees and migrants that will now face a different welcome. But my biggest concern is for the future of my daughter.

venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 23:46

As I said upthread (or may have been the thread in FWR) in Rotherham a home office researcher at the time who was looking at the cases of the girls being abused by Asian men was told to drop it in no uncertain terms by her management, and sent on a two day equality and diversity course.

venusinscorpio · 09/01/2016 23:47

Sorry that last was to shins. Fast moving thread!

Pinkchampchoccies · 09/01/2016 23:47

379 crimes have been so far reported to have taken place on NYE in Cologne /Dom 40% of which are of a sexual nature.

emilybohemia · 09/01/2016 23:48

Shins, it is sad that you are here on a thread that purports to be about upholding the freedom of women, yet you ffeel the need to swear at people that don't share your views. There's no need or it. You can't shut down debate by stamping your foot and telling people to go away because of their opinion.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 23:48

It's like the emperors new clothes venus

polentapies · 09/01/2016 23:49

It's you who is calling racism Emily, but you have yet to give examples

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 23:55

Getting emily to answer specific questions is rather like herding mackerel. Slippery and evasive.

Or is that being fishist?

TwistedReach · 09/01/2016 23:57

So most of you are concerned about yourselves and your children and not about others who were born further away. Lucky you that you were born here and not in syria or sudan. Had you been born somewhere else i would still think your life mattered. Even if you had been born a boy I would have thought you mattered.

polentapies · 09/01/2016 23:59

Too much of the vino I think Twisted.

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 10/01/2016 00:01

The best thing that can come out of this is that 2016 sees people starting to actually talk about sexual violence, harassment and a woman's inalienable right to walk down the street in peace.
