Jordanian Pilot burned to death by IS

Moaz al Kassasbeh, the young Jordanian pilot being held captive by IS, has apparently been burned alive. Obviously this is not a link to the video but rather to the story.

Apparently he's been dead for 3 or 4 weeks so the whole hostage negotiation that's been going on was a complete sham. Just when I thought that these savages couldn't get any worse. It shows that Muslim, Jew, Christian, atheist, we must all join together to fight against these maniacs.

Media are reporting that security sources are saying that Sajida Al-Rishawi will be executed shortly.

I wonder if the Jordanians knew he was dead all along, and that the proof of life they asked for could not be given?

I don't know why, as beheading is also terrible, but the manner of this young man's death has horrified me.

And I hope all those who are putting their lives at risk to fight against them over or on ungoverned territory will be carrying suicide pills if they want them from now on.

I wonder if they gave him a worse death because he is a Sunni Muslim and they (allegedly) are too and they see him as a kind of traitor? Of course most of their victims have actually been Muslim.

This is the most sickening thing I've ever heard of.

I talked about this with a Moslem workmate this afternoon and his shocked expression said it all to me. Then he shook his head and said "the fucking bastards. These (spat out) people do not represent me"

It's the first time I've heard him swear. Not even when he described facing Shoaib Akhtar did he swear.

They are utterly beyond contempt.

I don't understand this on so many levels but by being so incredibly barbaric surely they are actually turning even more Muslims against their cause not towards it? Wouldn't their aim be to recruit as many as possible?

This was another despicable act by ISIS. Sorry to hear that Jordan have said they will now execute Sajida Al-Rishawi. I am not sure how that is going to help.

She was sentenced to death back in 2006, for her role in the bombing of hotels in Jordan which killed about 60 people. Two appeals failed. I'm not aware of any particular controversy about her conviction.

Jordan had had a moratorium on carrying out the death penalty, but that was lifted in December 2014. I am not sure if there are any others convicted of murders of this type and sentenced to death who are currently in Jordanian prisons.

Majestic I think they have not choice but to execute Sajida Al-Rishawi and indeed any others they are holding (which they are saying is going to happen). It fills me with horror but you simply cannot have these murderous people available to be used as pawns again with another ISIS hostage. Jordan would have traded her if they could have and what a nightmare that would have been given she was trying to kill families at a wedding (and her husband succeeded).

The whole thing is deeply depressing. I feel for the family of this poor man, and for the family of the Japanese hostage killed last week.

What I am struggling to see is how we are ever going to get beyond this problem. I simply cannot get my head around what is going on in the minds of those who perpetrate such barbaric acts. It seems to me that there will be no end to it all.

They are the greatest gift to the anti muslim brigade. We must starve them of publicity and hope that they suffer in the same way as their (mainly muslim) victims.

I'm not sure that the rest of the world is the audience that any executions is aimed at.

It is vitally important that the tensions within Jordan are not exacerbated by the murder of the pilot. So the domestic audience matters.

And of course they will want to make it utterly impossible for exchange 'deals' for prisoners in Jordan to be mendaciously offered ever again.

In the Internet age, I do not think it is possible to starve them of publicity. The actual videos are all too easy to find. I've managed to avoid seeing anything from this one, and UK media are not publishing any stills, let alone footage.

But I've seen a description of the high production standards of the most recent. There is an information war, as well as a hot war, and starving of publicity just doesn't seem a good enough weapon any more.
