My thoughts are with the victims of the latest barbaric act by Islamic extremists.

The world needs to wake up and defend itself.

RIP those who died and prayers for those critically injured.

Lots of Charlie Hebdo books etc available on Amazon. I can't yet find an online subscription for the UK though.

Thereyouarepeter · 07/01/2015 13:47

So chilling that it seems so well planned.

Why? There have been repeated warnings that this would happen as a result of the wests appalling reaction to

a) Firstly letting people go and fight for ISIS in the first place
b) Letting these people return back to europe...awaiting further orders.

KareninsGirl · 07/01/2015 13:47

frumpet, genuinely curious. do you honestly think trying to 'understand' why they are going around murdering innocent people and attacking the fundamentals of western beliefs (ie free speech) is actually going to work?

some people are beyond reasoning.

This will not stop. and it has been going on for longer than you think. Lockerbie?

has anyone seen the vastly under reported news about the attack in Istanbul yesterday?

wake up

A quick glance through Territts posting history showsloads of controversial posts to inflame threads. And those are the ones that haven't been deleted! Is like Mumsnet own Katie Hopkins.

GwenaelleLaGourmande · 07/01/2015 13:49

This is so sad, so shocking. The poor poor victims and witnesses it must have been terrifying.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 07/01/2015 13:50

I grew up in Northern Ireland. This brings back so many nightmare daysSad

at least there was an aim there what is the aim here, how can we ever appease islamic extremists? Where will it ever end.

ArsenicFaceCream · 07/01/2015 13:53

A good day to show support for satire and freedom of speech.

It's important to show the scumbags that their attempts to terrorise won't work.

Lottapianos · 07/01/2015 13:53

'has anyone seen the vastly under reported news about the attack in Istanbul yesterday?

I heard one line about it on the Radio 4 news - absolutely nothing else

I grew up just outside Northern Ireland and it does bring back sickening memories. When I heard the breaking news this morning, I had that stomach turning feeling that used to be frequent during the IRA bombing days

ArsenicFaceCream · 07/01/2015 13:55

how can we ever appease islamic extremists? Where will it ever end.

The end goal is unconscionable. Big mistake to even try to apease them - unthinkable.

frumpet · 07/01/2015 13:57

KareninsGirl Yes i remember Lockerbie well . What I was rather clumsily trying to say , is that we are never going to stop something until we work out how and why it is happening . Why is very important , why are young western born Muslim's being brainwashed , how are they being brainwashed and how can we prevent this from occurring in the future and how do we deal with those that have already been through the process .

pinkhousesarebest · 07/01/2015 13:59

They were well informed too as the weekly staff meeting was underway at the time, so all the journalists were there.

KareninsGirl · 07/01/2015 14:05

The bottom line is these extremists want us to live their way under their laws, in fear.

what more is there to understand?

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 07/01/2015 14:13

These terrorists use Islam to justify their own insanity.
Violent extremists are corrupting a religion, it's about power through fear rather than any religion they belong to.
Banning Islam ( as well as being a ludicrous idea as well as impossible) would change nothing.

26Point2Miles · 07/01/2015 14:14

Sadly I have people living close by who approve of Islamic terrorism.... They are British muslims and seem to feel it's the only way to 'take over'. Not sure what to do about them, they don't cause trouble, just quietly agree

smokepole · 07/01/2015 14:18

My eldest "niece" is working on a placement in Paris about 1 mile away from the Charlie Hebdo attack. She has texted to say she is "fine" however most of the people in her office are in a state of shock and running around like headless chickens!.

Thereyouarepeter · 07/01/2015 14:27

Obviously it's also pertinent to say that this is by no means over. It's almost a certainty that this will end up with a bomb going off somewhere with the killers going down in a "blaze of glory"

funambulist · 07/01/2015 14:33

I hope that they manage to catch the people who do it. The thought of three armed men at large in the centre of Paris who have already murdered 12 people is terrifying. There have been a number of smaller terrorist attacks in France in recent days as well.

ElizabethLemon · 07/01/2015 14:37

There are now reports of a Spanish publication in Madrid evacuating it's offices due to a suspect package.

So horrifying and scary. My heart breaks for the people and families affected by this disgusting behaviour.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/01/2015 14:40

This is going to be a gift to the French far right, isn't it? So depressing.

fancyanotherfez · 07/01/2015 14:45

The most horrifying thing is that we can't seem to be able to do anything about it. How do we stop people from being radicalised in our own country? Education doesn't seem to be working. Many of the people who have gone to fight for ISIS don't even know what they are fighting for or against, and don't realise they are killing mostly other Muslims. Any attempt to educate is seen as westerners trying to impose their values on Islam. If people don't fear death because they think they are doing God's work, what can be done? France are a lot less tolerant that we are here. I have a feeling they are going to react to this by being massively hardline in relation to Islamic rules and preachers in Mosques etc. I just don't know what the answer is.

MuttersDarkly · 07/01/2015 14:47

This is going to be a gift to the French far right, isn't it?

Gift wrapped.

But that is the intent I think. If you want a Holy War I think you probably want to make sure your counterparts on the other side have ammunition to help inflame and grow their ranks. Because then they will commit foul acts that help your own side get inflamed and attract newly convinced recruits.

MephistophelesApprentice · 07/01/2015 14:48

people have been Muslim for hundreds and hundreds of years without that much bother to western countries

LOL

Bulgaria, Romania and Albania would disagree. As would Greece, Cyprus and the Byzantines.

Can't find any Byzantines? Do you want to know why?

Lottapianos · 07/01/2015 14:49

'The most horrifying thing is that we can't seem to be able to do anything about it. How do we stop people from being radicalised in our own country?'

It is horrifying fancy. I have no idea what the answer is. The situation seem completely out of control

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 07/01/2015 14:50

  • Big mistake to even try to apease them - unthinkable

Confused Yes I know it was rhetorical. We could never appease them because their goals are not workable.

Nancy66 · 07/01/2015 14:53

another attack like this around the UK general election time would also be a gift to UKIP
