"Natasha Bolter: Oxford University deny sex scandal Ukip candidate ever attended"

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/ukip/11285916/Natasha-Bolter-Oxford-University-deny-sex-scandal-Ukip-candidate-ever-attended.html

Roger Bird, who is a PPE, introduced Natasha Bolter as having defected from Labour and being a PPE too.

I saw her interviewed on BBC Newsnight last night, and I did begin to wonder about Oxford and PPEs. I'm not a big fan of PPEs at the best of times, but Gordon Bennett, I thought to myself.

What's going on?

Cos most of them haven't got a clue what the party stands for or what its policies are and instead they just go off on one long bigotted Twitter rant

claig · 20/12/2014 21:12

"UKIP seem to have banned members from Facebook and Twitter.

Wonder why?"

Is it because the UKIP hierarchy want to protect good People's Army members from being shamelessly abused by Tories on twitter and facebook?

Its because UKIP has become a victim if it's own success. in focusing on the immigration issue and has therefore attracting a lot of roughnecks

WetAugust · 20/12/2014 21:43

Hit send by mistake. UKIP is supposed to be about getting out of the EU. Inability to control immigration is just ONE issue we face through EU membership, but it's an emotive issue that has attracted the 'wrong' sort of supporter in a lot of cases.

I think it's peaked. It's gone flown a couple of points in the polls tonight.

tilder · 20/12/2014 22:20

Oh, now I get it. The reason we keep getting reports of ukip people being bigoted/racist/sexist/stupid isn't because ukip contains people with those views. It's because all these people have been planted by the 'establishment'.

Obviously.

WetAugust · 20/12/2014 22:27

No, you don't actually get it at all Tilder. I don't know why you think they've been 'planted by the Establishment'. It's a fact that some Ukip supporters and members are actually bigoted and racist and very thick - hence the party telling them to stay off twitter.

I've seen some pretty horrendous stuff posted by Labour (from an offical Labour account) and by Tories too. The Twittersphere attracts weird folk

tilder · 20/12/2014 22:38

Sorry, my typing is crap. Was responding to several posts which blame other people for ukip cock ups. Suggesting these people had been planted to discredit ukip. Instead of it being ukip just attracting people with dodgy views.

WetAugust · 20/12/2014 22:43

Politics is a dirty game and all parties try to discredit each other. I've seen vandalism and criminal damage caused by one party during a past election and the party's vehicles had to be kept in a secure compound at night.

But UKIP does have a knack of shooting itself in the foot, on a daily basis.

Yes ukip does keep dropping major clangers. It's weird though, these nasty undertones that seep out don't seem to register and people still seem happy to vote for nasty little Nigel. Man of the people my arse.

Dipankrispaneven · 21/12/2014 09:01

Aaaaand another major clanger:

Farage 'abused power' to save Ukip candidate in racism storm: Email reveals he overturned ban on party 'golden boy'

Mail link, but probably particularly apposite in view of OP's views as to the paper's excellence. Essentially UKIP and particularly Farage knew all about Kerry Smith's racism and homophobia, the local party banned him as a candidate but Farage intervened to to overturn it.

Is there seriously any doubt that this is a party led by an inherently racist and homophobic man, and one which follows his lead?

Hakluyt · 21/12/2014 10:42

The comments after that daily mail link are brilliant. Apparently it's onky becaus the Mail is anti UKIP. Eh?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 22/12/2014 07:05

For her comments to be jaw-dropping, when Dear Dear Godder's misogyny and racism raised a wry eyebrow. Kerry Smith's interesting language being roundly defended on radio in a way that managed to offend pretty much every normal working class person in Britain , Neil Hamilton et al just being generally offensive to anyone with half a brain, what she said must be truly awful.

No doubt it will be because The Establishment Made Her Do It. However, the more likely reason is that UKIP seems to be very attractive to truly nasty, racist twatbags.

tilder · 22/12/2014 08:26

Exactly puffins.

I really really don't understand why people gloss over this stuff in the rush to look at immigration. Do they all share these views?

WetAugust · 22/12/2014 12:33

A party growing at the rate of Ukip and without a long- established nationwide netwwork has an impossible task in weeding out the undesirables and controlling the rabble. It would have been better for Ukip to have focused its resources on a few key marginals instead of trying to field candidates in every constituency.

Unfortunately, Farage has turned the party from one whose focus was on getting out of the EU into a protest party for every oddball, bigot, racist and idiotoc media-ignorant twat.

This was probably inevitable once Ukip promoted, and the other main parties admitted, the fact that while we remain within the EU we cannot control our borders. It the became an immigration-focused party and it's primary EU exit objective was lost.

So someone like me, whose only political goal is to exit the EU has no party to bote for - I am effectively disenfranchised again.

But please remember, in your haste to bash Ukip, that the other parties have their fair share of criminals, racists, homophobes, bigots etc You just don't hear a lot about them but Labour has an ex-BNP councillor, the Tory MEps are aligned to a homophobic party and the LibDems have had their fair share of crimminality and scandal.

It's almost as though, in order to put yourself forward, your ego has to be so large that you conveniently foget all the skeletons rattling in your cupboard. The nature of a 5 year Parliament cannot attract people whose careers would not permit them to take a 5 year break, so you automatically end up with risk-takers and these are not always the best people to make decisions.

tilder · 22/12/2014 12:42

The other parties do have some undesirables. Just not at such a high percentage. But then a party at the extreme of normality (which is what a very right wing party is) will always attract more people with extreme views by definition.

Ukip has shifted its public focus to take advantage of public opinion. Their policies (when candidates even know the official line) change with alarming regularity as soon as they realise that publicising such extreme views loses votes.

WetAugust · 22/12/2014 12:56

I agree with you to some extent Tilder. Personally i am disappointed that Ukip morphed from a single issue party into a populist party.

I compare it to the Referendum Party. That was mainly ex-Tory or even still-Tory just protesting angainst the EU at one specific election. Its members had been interesed in politics for a long time, were unted in wanting to leave the EU, had no domestic political policy and were reasonably well educated, media-savvy people.

Ukip is very different. I cannot imagine the views expressed by many of the Ukip members being acceptable at a Tory / Labour / Liberal meeting, although I could be wrong as I've never been to a their meetings. Neither do the the Ukip members consist wholly of those who have never voted. I would say the party at local levels is probably primarily ex-Labour voters, who are supporting a moreTory-like Ukip elite. This is why I can't see Carswell and Reckless staying with the party longterm.

Isitmebut · 22/12/2014 13:41

I suspect "UKIK" might think twice about standing for a lower voting age to engage future UKIP voters, especially the brighter more entrepreneurial children learning new IT skills. lol

”Nigel Farage slams 'pathetic' UKIP app made by schoolchildren”
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-slams-pathetic-ukip-app-made-by-schoolchildren-9940100.html

”Nigel Farage has condemned a phone app made by schoolchildren featuring a character called Nicholas Fromage kicking immigrants off the white cliffs of Dover.”

”The UKIP leader said the game where players kick immigrants as far as possible to gain the highest "racism" rating is "risible and pathetic" and "crosses the line".

Our youth LISTENING to a pro UKIP calypso, was of course fine.

I totally agree with tilders last analysis and surprising WetAugusts view on the mistake of UKIP morphing away from their sole EU message, but that is what the sniff of (Westminster) power does for a party - especially when trying to appeal to ALL voters in all parties at the same time - which I suspected/posted a while back, would be when UKIP might struggle.

WetAugust · 22/12/2014 13:57

I'm not aware of any Ukip policy on voting age.

I am totally against politics in schools. I recently signed a petition to that effect. Developing that cartoon app should not be allowed in schools and the Head is endorsing these political viewes by praising the school children's efforts. I would also ban all religion from school too.

My views shouldn't surprise you Isitmebut as I first said on here over a year ago that I disliked the fact that Ukip was no longer a single issue party and felt its new focus on domestic policy was a mistake. And I think my view has proven to be correct.

WetAugust · 22/12/2014 14:05

There we are Sunday 28 July 2013 - so more than a year ago

"Personally I think UKIP should have stayed as a single issue party"

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a1813384-to-want-to-ask-those-who-intend-to-vote-UKIP-a-few-questions-about-their-policies#40563813

I did not forsee that within 18 months it would have morphed into such an uncontrollbale, populist group whose primary objective has now been totally obscured

That's why I no longer support them. But I do support leaving the EU.

Isitmebut · 22/12/2014 14:33

WetAugust ... re lower voting age, I apologize, I was sure UKIP was for it, but it appears even recently Paul Nuttal said he was against, but of course it's the big cheese 'Mr Fromage' that has the final word.

Maybe I got that from one of Claig's UKIP/democracy for all lectures by mistake.

In a UK/world needing IT skills, this is a commercial lesson rather than a political one (hence they formed a company) - but the Head's endorsement might be a bit politically iffy hence Labour (& the SNP's) wish to lower the voting age.

At 16-years old in a still mainly left wing teaching establishment they will be taught 'do you want a society that is fair, where everyone earns the same and jobs grow on trees, OR NOT'?

Re religion, I have a mixed view, as although I strongly believe an understanding of difference in religions would help towards the understanding of each other, judging by a daughter of mine several years ago, they might find it boring.

We went to the school open day and were told by the R.E. teacher various home work projects had not been completed. When at home and challenged, my daughter reeled off a list of religions she found 'interesting' and completed the work - but couldn't get into the others. Hmmm.

claig · 22/12/2014 14:45

'Maybe I got that from one of Claig's UKIP/democracy for all lectures by mistake.#

You didn't get it from me, because everybody knows that on the whole conservatives and that includes UKIP are generally against giving votes to 16 year olds as they are not politically aware enough. Labour are in favour because they think their spiel will influence 16 year olds.
