That's terrible news.
Not surprising however. Top Gear is just endless shots of people driving cars far too fast and the presenters doing dangerous stunts.I have often wondered how they get away with it.

He seems a most likeable guy.
I do hope he is ok

CatBert · 20/09/2006 23:10

Very sad - I just saw this on the news. I really like him, always seems like a nice bloke.

I really hope we don't wake up to bad news in the morning.

notasheep · 20/09/2006 23:12

careful what you type

lemonaid · 20/09/2006 23:19

His poor family -- his girls are only young.

He's the reason I watch Top Gear. Dh will be really upset when I tell him.

Now I realise how people who followed Steve Irwin's shows felt when they heard about him.

geekgrrl · 21/09/2006 06:31

it's changed from 'critical' to 'stable' now.

Elf1981 · 21/09/2006 06:59

Just heard this on the news, hope he's okay

Seashells · 21/09/2006 07:53

This is so sad, I really really hope he is ok.

edam · 21/09/2006 08:00

Very sad esp. for his two daughters. I remember Clarkson saying he had given up doing the dangerous stunts, jumping out of planes etc., because he was getting old and had a family.

Nice guy, horrible accident . Hope he makes a full and fast recovery and is back on our screens soon.

oliveoil · 21/09/2006 09:18

he has 2 young daughters I think (one of whom is called Willow which I love).

It said he was stable this morning so does this mean he will be ok or is he still fighting for his life?

NomDePlume · 21/09/2006 09:20

'Serious but stable', I guess that means he stands a good chance of making a good recovery but he still has a long way to go.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/09/2006 09:21

This is sad i like Richard Hammond, personally think he is the best of the Top Gear bunch.

Hope he makes a full and fast recovery.

CheesyFeet · 21/09/2006 09:28

I was really shocked to hear this on the radio this morning.
Top Gear is great and RH is so funny and cute.
I really feel for his wife and daughters.

mummyplonk · 21/09/2006 09:37

Reports are now saying he was possibly trying to beat a record in a car that can go 300 mph! How awfull esp if his wife was telling him not to do it. He seems such a lovely unpretencious down to earth celebrity I really hope he is ok.

sockmonkey · 21/09/2006 09:44

We are really shocked and upset about his accident. It's sad but I even shed a tear when I heard. He is such a big favourite in our family, we watch Top Gear, Brainiac and any other shows he does. My little boy adores him.

I really feel for his wife and kids. I hope he makes a full recovery.

joelallie · 21/09/2006 09:53

One the radio they were saying that there was going to be an inquiry into what caused the accident.....eh???? Try driving at 300 mph in a very powerful car. That'll do it.

However stupid it was I really hope he gets better - he always seems a decent bloke.

One of the press witness reports said a tyre blew and that was what flipped it over (but then another one said he walked away and he plainly didn't so who knows)

southeastastra · 21/09/2006 10:15

if you do things like that accident will happen

anniediv · 21/09/2006 10:16

Richard Hammond update

Joolstoo · 21/09/2006 10:16

on the news last night it said he was unconscious when the rescue team got to him and it took 10 mins to get him out of the car. He regained consciousness in the ambulance (it said)

I just hope he makes a complete recovery however it sounds like it may be a long road ahead.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/09/2006 10:17

Also said on GMTV this morning that it was reported when he regained conciousness he was complain of his lower back hurting. That's surely got to be a good sign
