AndHarry · 26/07/2014 16:54

New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

I'm not naive enough to think that any company is truly and forever 100% ethical, but I was surprised to see you manufacturers on the boycott list and it just brought home the disparity in some children's experiences and others to me, that's all. Just like with Nestle, another on the list.

There is a great audio clip of Jonathan Miller from c4 news talking about the murder of the bakr boys. It is hard to listen to.

Springheeled · 30/07/2014 09:56

Toy manufacturers even

ohmymimi · 30/07/2014 10:03

Thank you, Harry and half. Didn't realise it had already been referenced.

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 10:43

This report was linked to much earlier in the thread. I'm delighted the mainstream media have picked it up and it is spreading like wildfire through social media.

Jon snow got it right when he said israel is fast becoming the pariah state of the world.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/07/2014 10:53

sorry if this is off topic but was there ever any convincing intelligence as to why all of israel's embassies around the world closed a couple of months back?

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 11:00

No idea. I tried looking into this but found nothing.

The new yorker has a fantastic article about what we discussed yesterday and how israel has an upside down skewed view of the world. The article states that Israel is punishing palestine for not being docile and refuses to accept that a nation caged in a ghetto will eventually fight back. www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/collective-punishment-gaz

it also makes a brilliant point that the south African apartheid ended because other powers in the world put pressure on. Here with the US firmly behind israel we all become complicit in the massacre.

I have a feeling that this is part of a much bigger picture

TheHoneyBadger · 30/07/2014 11:03

i just recall it was in the midst of the aftermath of the first malaysian flight loss and it was allegedly 'strike action' which sounded ridiculous to say the least. there were crazy theories around about it but i wondered if anything further had actually been found/leaked since. can't face googling and having to plough through dross.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2014 11:08

somewheresafe

I think that new yorker idea is very widely understood and accepted.

However it is a problem for the State of Israel to accept that (regardless of humanity or international law) their policy doesn't work, hasn't worked, and won't work.

None of the people who approve of the actions of the State of Israel will engage with my question about trying to cure a bad knee by hitting it with a hammer. Entering into a discussion would just be impossible, because it brings the risk of admitting that Israel's actions are wrong.

zinher · 30/07/2014 11:11

40 ppl killed overnight

TheHoneyBadger · 30/07/2014 11:13

is it still, 'more than a thousand', rather than more specific numbers?

PigletJohn · 30/07/2014 11:14

btw try this link

www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/collective-punishment-gaza

zinher · 30/07/2014 11:18

15 in a UN school again!

AndHarry · 30/07/2014 11:19

The numbers are difficult. The Al Jazeera website has a full list of the known dead.

Springheeled · 30/07/2014 11:22

Little things again: seeing the UN school reports this morning, I rang my MPs office and was heartened to hear the man there tell me that I was one of many who had called with the same concern. I just asked to know his stance, whether he would be supporting sanctions or calling for a ban on arms sales etc. Took less than 5 mins- everyone should do it! Just look up the no. on the internet.

emma2277 · 30/07/2014 11:23

Re embassy closures a quick google reveals a) staff went on strike due to low pay and b) a bunch of sites saying Israel holds nuclear weapons in their embassies and is going to start ww3 etc etc etc

PigletJohn · 30/07/2014 11:29

springheeled

what a good idea

try here findyourmp.parliament.uk/

I don't know if there are any advice sites giving tips on how people who are opposed to the actions of the State of Israel can best make their point.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/07/2014 11:33

yes that's what it was before too emma - i don't believe either and wondered if anymore realistic information had come out.

FrontierPsychiatrist · 30/07/2014 11:46

What's going on? The New Yorker link and the Independent link aren't working.

Suspicious?

TheHoneyBadger · 30/07/2014 11:51

well as the apologists keep gleefully pointing out they do own google.

emma2277 · 30/07/2014 11:58

Frontier, both links are working fine here

Honey, I have no idea, its quite a secretive country so who knows, but Im not buying into ww3 theories...a few mad men might like it so its up to the powers that be to contain them

The latest attack on the UN school refuge has been deemed against international law

I still would like any poster who supports Israel military actions to tell me why they bombed the power station, thanks in advance

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 12:03

Did anyone hear Greg dyke on BBC radio 4? He was criticising the BBC for their biased reporting. And mentioned that when he was head of the BBC he came under more pressure from.israel than any other state in the world.

AntiWar. Com are reporting that israeli officials have been pressuring eu MP's to restrict anti war protests. www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/collective-punishment-gaza

I hop the link works.

Israel seem very concerned about the one sided portrayal of deaths in this massacre. They seem less concerned about their one sided aggression. Social media has got them panicked. They're not used to being so despised as they've always been the victims.

timbucktoo · 30/07/2014 12:14

Apparently the BBC are guilty of treason!!!
