Part 2: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

AndHarry · 17/07/2014 11:50

Starting a new thread as the original is almost full.

The original thread is here. It was started on 1st July after three Israeli boys were found murdered, before the murder of the Palestinian boy and the resumption of sustained rocket attacks and Operation Protective edge.

There are lots of excellent posts and links in the original thread showcasing a variety of views. The main consensus was that there is fault on both sides. We also considered various options for people on both sides of the conflict to work towards a lasting peace.

Donnie

I would guess the two exceptions are:

  1. Whenever they consider it necessary

  2. Whenever they wish to cause maximum deaths and most awful injuries.

bakingnovice · 21/07/2014 14:15

From the photos it appears that the exception also include: to be used most specifically on children.

Harry I have family in Israel and they are indoctrinated and brainwashed from an early age. They are unable to voice their horror at what is happening. Moderate jews in Israel are casualties of this genocide too. It's very difficult to raise children in Israel with a balanced view of the situation. My family just want the palestinians to be given their land back and for them all to live peacefully. The ruling powers unfortunately will ensure this does not happen.

toodles · 21/07/2014 14:19

There is no end to Israel's evil. Al Aqsa Hospital attacked and now been told to evacuate. Where are they supposed to go?

If it already hasn't been posted, does someone have a good link to a comprehensive list of Israeli companies and their products so I can boycott them.

Israel can do whatever it wants and nobody stands up to them. How do they have so much power?

Hi toodles this a link to War On Want's report about companies profiting from the occupation. Hope it helps. Elsewhere on their site is a campaign to demand that the British Government to stop sending arms to Israel. If you fill in your details it will automatically send an email to your MP.

emma2277 · 21/07/2014 14:33

israel bombs the hell out of gaza whilst knowing it will solve nothing, as its been there too many times before, thats a crime IMO..killing people with impunity. They are too proud and cowardly to negotiate any peace whatsoever.

3500 injured that cant be treated with scarce hospital resources so many will die as a result, and 530 dead already, in kess than two weeks and for what? Benjamin Netanyahus PR campaign, shame on him and all his murdering cronies.

toodles · 21/07/2014 14:45

Thank you funambulist. I'm afraid I'm in Greece so I can't fill in my details for the campaign.

PigletJohn · 21/07/2014 14:46

Toodles "Israel can do whatever it wants and nobody stands up to them. How do they have so much power?"

In many cases, a small and weak state gains the support of a stronger one. In this relationship, the stronger state usually protects its client, and in return it exercises a measure of control over the actions of the weaker one.

Israel is somewhat unique, in that it has had the total economic and military support of the US, but does not follow the advice, requests or demands of its sponsor. Instead, the US does what Israel wants.

donnie · 21/07/2014 14:51

PigletJohn - my guess for the two exceptions are a) males and b) females.

Disgusted that Israel is bombing the Shifa hospital. Reportedly 4 dead and 60 injured including Dr's and paramedics. This is where the amazing Dr gilbert was working from.

Why??? Israel say Hamas have a command centre here. Israel's actions are truly barbaric. They can seemingly bomb anywhere citing Hamas and human shields as justification.

AndHarry · 21/07/2014 15:26

Phosphorous being used again? :( If that's true that is inexcusable. There are viable alternatives for creating smokescreens.

Bombing hospitals is also inexcusable. Every militant in the Gaza strip could be standing on the roof with their entire stockpile and it is still something you do not do.

Sorry that should read al aqsa hospital.

Agree harry.

toodles · 21/07/2014 15:45

PigletJohn, thank you.

Why is this though? Why is Israel unique and why does the US do what Israel wants?

They better NOT be using phosphorus as it will be another nail in their coffin

they will bomb whoever they want and as many and just say its all hamas fault! They make me sick, some of them are not fit to be called a member of the human race

ColgateSmile · 21/07/2014 17:09

Targeting another hospital??

My heart truly aches for the people of Gaza.

It is unbelievable that this is being played out in front of the eyes of the world.

Backinthering · 21/07/2014 17:14

5 dead at the hospital. It's where many civilians have sought shelter also.
More fucking lies from fucking Mark Regev.

justasecond · 21/07/2014 17:28

I hate that fucking bastard Mark "lets be clear" Regev. The smug, unfeeling ,unhuman piece of shit is wheeled out before us every couple of years to justify the unjustifiable.

Mark Regev is a truly damnable lowlife.

somewheresafe · 21/07/2014 18:49

I am so disturbed by that video. The area looks like a scene from schindlers list.

Anonymous have released a video in support of palestine. I don't know what good this will do but public opinion seems to be swaying in favour of the palestinians.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/07/2014 18:50

I obviously don't know about that particular piece, Colgate, but there's a heck of a lot on the net about fake photos/videos being posted, especially on social media sites sites

Personally I'd have thought there was enough horror going on, without folk behaving like that ...

donnie · 21/07/2014 18:51

Really good reader's comment on one of the Guardian articles over the last couple of days which is that Israel is ethnically cleansing a ghetto of its own making.

It would be interesting to hear from people who disagree with this and on what grounds.

AndHarry · 21/07/2014 18:58

I want to share a video someone posted on FB. It's UK Colonel Richard Kemp testifying to the UN about Operation Cast Lead: YouTube

OP posts:
OddFodd · 21/07/2014 19:01

Sorry, can't watch the video. I can't watch anything - the radio is bad enough :(

Really just posting to say how much I hate Mark Regev. And how bloody angry I am that the BBC deem this to be a secondary news story behind Ukraine/Malaysian plane
