Part 2: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Starting a new thread as the original is almost full.

The original thread is here. It was started on 1st July after three Israeli boys were found murdered, before the murder of the Palestinian boy and the resumption of sustained rocket attacks and Operation Protective edge.

There are lots of excellent posts and links in the original thread showcasing a variety of views. The main consensus was that there is fault on both sides. We also considered various options for people on both sides of the conflict to work towards a lasting peace.

Rather than have mumsnet try to educate you, start with this.

the official Israeli line is that the illegal settlements are not illegal, and the occupied territories are not occupied. For all I know they also declare that the sun goes round the earth. That does not make it true.

It is hard to understand how Gaza is 'occupied' when the Israelis unilaterally its military and all Jewish settlers in 2005. This was confirmed by a statement by a Hamas leader some time ago.
Why does the Hamas Charter call for the destruction of Israel and then expect Israel to have open borders with it?

The photos of people returning home and seeing destroyed homes is haunting. Completely haunting.

Israeli government's total disregard for Human rights and the lives of palestinian children is expressed by Israeli Ambassador to Ireland in the Irish Times.

The Israeli ambassador to Ireland Boaz Modai this morning criticised the UN Human Rights Council, saying it protected terrorists. “The UN Human Rights Council could have changed its name a long time ago to UN terrorist rights council. They are protecting terrorists. What they are doing now is encouraging Hamas to go on because they know that Israel is going to be condemned by this organisation.”

Asked on Newstalk FM whether he felt ashamed by the deaths of more than 700 people so far in the Israeli offensive in Gaza, he said: “I don’t feel even a bit of shame; I feel a lot of pride being part of this country. I was also in the Israeli army, the most moral army in the world.”

Yep, the world has seen the moral army's appalling holocaust creation in Palestine. Pin-point operation targeting children is deemed moral by Israeli government.

So so heartbreaking. I seem to be crying a lot today.
Why the fuck won't world leaders speak up?

Sandra - thank you for posting. Recently I have felt what's the point in discussing this issue with people who have no humanity. Posts like yours remind me how important it is to keep sharing info, links, updates so others can see the atrocities.

There's not a day gone by when I've not been moved to tears with what I've seen. I'm on twitter and fb far more than I ever was as I don't feel the mainstream media is uncovering the truth enough. God bless Jon snow. It's not just the women and children who get to new, I've felt very very moved by seeing father's weep uncontrollable for their children. Innocent families torn apart. Tweets by teenagers in Gaza wondering if they will live another few hours. Images of babies dying. Mothers screaming. Doctors crying. It's insane.

Halfdrunkcoffee, I mean things escalated to far far worse when it was decided Jews would get their own home. It was something that was opposed by most people. Maybe using the words "happily" was a mistake on my part.

But why are we here again?
So wrong.

Thanks to all the posters who have spent a huge amount time on this and the previous thread standing up for humanity. How anyone can justify and support the current genocide is chilling.

Thankfully the majority on here are on the side of justice and humanity, I am so very grateful for your input I have learned a lot Thanks

i thought that that ex soldier explained very well about how israeli's are raised to be believe that either you are a zionist or you are anti-semitic. no wonder we're having to repeatedly explain to people that being against a zionist regime does not mean you are against jews and no wonder they find it so hard to respond when asked what they think of jewish organisations against zionism.

there is a lot of cognitive dissonance to be worked through if you want to liberate yourself from a lifetimes propaganda.
