Part 2: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Starting a new thread as the original is almost full.

The original thread is here. It was started on 1st July after three Israeli boys were found murdered, before the murder of the Palestinian boy and the resumption of sustained rocket attacks and Operation Protective edge.

There are lots of excellent posts and links in the original thread showcasing a variety of views. The main consensus was that there is fault on both sides. We also considered various options for people on both sides of the conflict to work towards a lasting peace.

quivering. The BBC have barely mentioned the protests against Israel. Ir hasnt reported fully on the horror that is being inflicted on the Palestinians, it has been accused of being biased towards Israel. yet the article i linked to also mentioned how Hamas was willing to give up violence and recognise Israel. Another Article i linked to from BBC source mentioned 90% of Israelis support the air campaign.

Did you read the bit about despite Hamas being willing, Israel stopped peace talks. I am not loyal to Hamas, but it makes me so angry that the group that is seen as a 'terrorist organisation' in the West, was about to lay down their arms and accept Israel, and even that wasnt good enough. So now do you see who is the real obstacle to peace?

PigletJohn · 20/07/2014 14:37

Luckily, TopBanana tells us that she knows many Israelis. And not one of them wishes to harm in any way let alone murder a single Palestinian.

So It must only be the ones she doesn't know.

As TB says, And, I suppose, brutality.

chibi · 20/07/2014 14:38

did i miss the post where quivering said that Palestinians deserve to have rocks thrown at them, or that what actually just happened to her as she went to pick up her child was the worst thing ever?

by that token, maybe having rocks thrown at you is no big deal because at least you aren't being barricaded in a church before being hacked to pieces with machetes as people were in Rwanda.

what the fuck is wrong with some of you? it feels like some fun rhetorical point scoring game for some posters

Death toll has now reached the 400 mark.

flyawayaway · 20/07/2014 14:48

Reports of israel continuing with the killings despite agreeing a 2 hour ceasefire.

There are no more shrouds available or space in refrigerators to store the bodies.

wordsmithsforever · 20/07/2014 14:54

backinthering and flyaway - please can you tell me where you are seeing the reports - the papers here are dead quiet and I've checked out some of the UK papers but not finding any updates on all of this?

flyawayaway · 20/07/2014 14:55

Twitter Facebook and al jazeera.

flyawayaway · 20/07/2014 14:56

Jews for the Palestinian Right of Return also an excellent source of information. On Facebook but I think they are also tweeting.

I hope it is not true quivering but sources on the ground are reporting that is the case. When will this end.

Numanoid · 20/07/2014 15:05

When will this end.

When Netanyahu stops his terror campaign. Which will probably be never. :(

wordsmithsforever · 20/07/2014 15:05

Thanks

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/07/2014 15:09

Flyaway, in mentioning the reports about the ceasefire being broken by Israel, I notice you omitted this, from Al Jazeera: Israel's military said its forces were shot at shortly after the two-hour truce, facilitated by the Red Cross, had begun at 1.30pm local time, and that it had resumed combat operations

Before posters start snarling, let me be clear that it's utterly unacceptable for anyone to break the ceasefire'; it's just that I prefer facts un-spun where possible ...

Backinthering · 20/07/2014 15:09

Yes Al Jazeera, have had it on pretty much constantly today. Twitter, although some of the images are from hell.

I'm not sure murdering hundreds of Palestinian civilians will make them more inclined to see Israelis as fellow people. If I was a Gazan right now, I would think the Israelis were monsters.

spongeypop · 20/07/2014 15:15

I wish we could all live together in peace!!

Puzzled - the ceasefire red cross begged for was from Israel only. Funnily enough the palestinians were not allowed access to any outsiders. Israel ensured they were blockaded in. Easier to kill them all that way.

Please excuse the palestinians for not knowing about this ceasefire as they were busy being slaughtered and poisoned by white phosphorous and toxic gases.

flyawayaway · 20/07/2014 15:18

Can people please stop going on about Hamas. The people in sharjeya are not Hamas. They are civilians. Dr gilbert from Norway has stayed that every person he has treated or seen die is an innocent civilian. Some compassion please!!
